What she doesn’t know can’t hurt her!! I would definately recommend OBDEleven to do some of the changes like High Beam assist.

Now that sounds far more reasonable... OBDEleven is definitely on my soon-to-be-purchased list. :D

Last question(s), I promise! I've got firmware version 0435 on my Bolero... is it worth trying to update this to 0490? What do the firmware updates improve? :)

Don’t worry about it, it’s good to talk about other cars. As Maverick has noted it’s quite a simple process to change the radios over but it involves a bit of faff with cp removal and coding. I’m doing the radio swap again shortly to facilitate the map mode on the virtual cluster. The cluster fitting is now booked so please sit tight everyone, it’s coming soon! My only worry now is that the part is on the VAG stolen list (the people I got it from have great eBay feedback from selling car tech equipment so I live in hope) but if that’s the case, I’ll get a refund sorted through eBay and PayPal. It has the wrapping on it and the plug blanks in it so who knows? We’ll find out soon enough I suppose! Obviously I’ve worried about it since getting the cluster which is why I’ve been frantically trying to get the fitting sorted quickly, but it is a fresh feeling when you know it’s booked in.

I highly recommend OBDEleven, so much stuff that can be done on these cars :D

Next thing on your never ending shopping (WISH) list will be an ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE. Your costing folks on here a choice between keeping up with your latest mod or feed the kids. Those poor kids.:notme:

I would love an electronic handbrake on the car but it’s not gunna happen. I am a fan of electronic parking brakes having used them before but I’m also happy with the manual parking brake :)

Giving the wife a treat tomorrow by using the manual handbrake Octy whilst I slum it in her posh electronic hand baked (deliberate spelling mistake) Karoq. Will target 55mpg average on the motorway commute to stop from getting bored with only 148bhp from it's ACT petrol engine.Hopefully no KANGAROO moments either.:sleepy:

Update on the Karoq today yes popped it into 1st gear and SKIPPY duly arrived as I was passing a neighbour, she must have laughed as I lurched novice style past her house, but all forgiven from 2nd gear on. It's so quiet and comfy can see the appeal. Missed my target slightly at 54.3MPG but broke up the boredom of having just under 200 horses left to play with. Wife told me she gave a colleague a lift from her conference at the King Power Stadium (LCFC) to Leicester train station and her passenger asked her why she was driving so fast? She said it's not me it's the car. Be surprised if she managed 30mpg in the beast when I drive it again tomorrow.:giggle:

Finally!!! The sub £20 reverse camera install is complete. Shout out to my Dad who did the cable routing through the passenger side of the car for me today because he felt sorry for me with my broken thumb, all these mods, but only 9 working digits to do them with. This is quite an easy install and something that all UK spec cars at least are capable of running. You need a Bolero with BT or above (MIB1 or 2, doesn’t matter), some of these to connect the video feed to the radio quadlock after you’ve chopped the RCA plug end off https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F171641862721 and a camera which is NTSC, not a PAL one! That detail has held me up by 7 weeks on this install. If your car is Pre MY16, it should be a 92x35mm boot handle like mine so you’ll need a camera like mine if you don’t want to cut. It’s bigger than I wanted, but on my dark coloured car it’s still neat. I’ll link some cameras below. Pretty sure MY16 onward is 112x48mm so I’ll link one of them in too. Coding is simple, just 5F Infotainment > Long Coding > Byte 19 Enable Bit 4. I also found in 76 Park Pilot > Long Coding there is a setting to add a lowline reverse camera which I did and as you can see it all works really well :happy: The parking sensor display is usually on the left of the screen, and it all works like an OEM camera, except the camera I’ve ended up with (not the test camera from my Dad’s car) has no lines, but I don’t mind. I tapped into the rear wiper motor to power the camera, which is much easier than trying to power it from the rear lights. I’m very impressed with it so far. Here is a link to the type of camera I have https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bGNgICLB And here is a link to an MY16 sized camera :) https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/sPzYJSt

Hi @SashaGrace, I don't suppose you can remember which wire you tapped into on the wiper motor for power?

I've just pulled the connector out and have;

1 - Brown (earth?)

2 - Green with orange stripe

3 - Green & White

4 - Black & Purple

Cheers:beer::drink:

All done and working B)

Just over £42 in bits, including pliers to crimp the tiny terminals into the head unit and a flexi duct for the offside of the tailgate.

And took 4 hours - this included wasting time with my moody multi-meter...

I used to think the boot was quite spacious in the Octavia, until I spent time in it looking for power with the meter.... :blush:biggrin:

Skoda should give you a job trouble shooting with your knowledge. Well done having the vision to fit VC in a 2014 Vrs TDi, early 100,000 mile present for your car.:clap:

Here’s how it came out of the dealers functions wise, no lane assist, no cruise control, left hand drive setup, only 2 menus on the centre display and a hatchback on the display etc etc

And after a bit of coding, making it up as I go this is what I now have

I suspect the reason I need to change the CAN Gateway is the fuel gauge issue. This is prevalent on early Golf 7’s with this retrofit and I guess this is why I have no fuel gauge for the time being. The dealer computer refused to even go near the 3V0 Gateway! I also noticed that the dynamic roadsign display fault doesn’t make a warning bong anymore, it just flashes up and goes. I need a scan of a car with a virtual cockpit to try and see what else needs coding as there are a lot of bytes that are 00 and the coding from my old cluster doesn’t copy over. I have a Skoda startup screen, not vRS and no needle sweep etc for now. Despite all that, I’m really stoked with it! Can’t wait to get the rest of it working. Also need to trim the top of the dash behind the cluster as it doesn’t fit quite right. Still freaking awesome though :D

Awesome work!!!

After following your lead with the reversing camera retrofit, I think you have just moved the bar significantly higher :D

Must. Not. Start. Looking. For. Virtual. Cockpits. :x:D

Well done :beer::biggrin:

Excellent work Sasha

Yikes. You've certainly got some big brass cojones to stick a virtual cockpit in and just hope it works out!

Now, if you can just sort out showing carplay on there, I'll be changing mine over too! I just can't stand the built in satnav.

Great update and the VC looks fantastic! Love the fact it's possible in an older and higher mileage car too... I wonder if you have one of the highest mileages shown on an Octavia with VC?!

On the fuel gauge issue, does driving data show the range left or does that not work either? Brave driving it if you don't have either indicator of remaining fuel, I'd be so paranoid I was going to run out!

excellent work! id love to see the process but id guess this is one mod you want to keep to yourself

I didn't like to mention the top speed again as it seemed to upset someone before. However I can confirm your tractor is officially now quicker than a certain VC equipped Vrs245 (oops hope he's not reading this):tongueout:

Would VCP have been able to code this?

Peter’s seen it on Facebook so we’re all good :) I’ll send him the coding to change the display as the 10 mph increments are a handy touch.

Not the mileage and immo etc, has to be an online version of ODIS-E connected to Skoda in Germany.
