As above, you are doing it right. Is that how you reset the radio on a MIB2.5 Columbus? You need to do a soft reset which on cars with a volume knob involved holding it down until the screen resets. Has nothing appeared under Media-Setup-Sound?

Tired of the tinny stereo? Here’s a tweak recommended to me by @Maverick567. Use OBDEleven/VCDS to go into module 5F Infotainment - Long Coding - Byte 11 change the value to Hex 04 and then reset the stereo. Next go to the Media tab, click Setup then Sound and tick the 2 new boxes, Skoda Surround and Virtual Subwoofer. Makes quite a difference

This works on FL MIB2 Amundsen!

Why isn't this enabled by default??!

Mine doesn't have a volume knob - all buttons.

I'll re-enable it tomorrow and try some more things. I went in to Settings>Factory Reset and then selected "Audio".

That’s good news, my new radio is a MIB2.5 Amundsen so it’s good to know it works :)

Yeah that’s my point, not sure how you go about the process. Maybe hold the on/off button?

I wasn't aware of the soft reset on the Columbus - holding down the power button you get to about 4 seconds and it switches off. Hadn't realised you should continue holding down until it comes back up.

Completed that and the new features are now available. Both enabled, we'll see what kind of difference that makes.

Whoop whoop, so it seems it works on the MIB2.5 Columbus as well :) nice to know.

Excellent news!!

I'm not somebody who seems to think the world has ended with my standard audio fittings - however any opportunity to enhance would be a bonus.

Is this likely to work on all factory fitted setup? I have the Columbus in my car. I did plug in VCDS, however am the first to admit my skills and knowledge of product isn't great - I couldn't see how to "Byte 11 change to Hex04" for example - if that could be explained in more simple terms?

I did go to the said Byte 11 in 5F Infotainment, Long Coding - however simply saw the following options:

I did try selecting the 04 byte-11.....from the drop down and coding back, however after completing a factory reset on "Audio" from the main settings nothing new appeared.

OK, for us computer Biffs who want to try this with OBD11 on a Facelift vRS. Click on 5F Infotainment then click Long Coding.

Then on the next page click on the top right corner on the 01.On the next page use the right arrow at the bottom of the screen to move along until you see Byte 11 at the top left of the screen. The box opposite Bit 0 will be ticked. Untick that then tick box opposite Bit 2. You will see Hex 04 is now displayed on the right side.

Now press and hold the power button on the head unit until the screen goes off then comes back on. Then click on Media then Settings and Sound. 2 new boxes should be there for you to tick.

Got it in one :)

Hi all

I just tried to enable the two functions as above and managed to make the changes to byte 11 ok and,

after resetting the radio, (MIB2 Amundsen) both the new options appeared in the settings menu, but they are ghosted and obviously unselectable.

Using OBDEleven by the way..

Anything I am not doing or idea why they would be ghosted out?

Cheers

The bottom one on mine was ghosted and was only selectable once I ticked the top one???????

Mate are you accessing the menu from the main sound menu? For some reason if you access the sound menu from a source you can’t change it. To change it scroll through all the tiles on the horizontal menu until you find the sound setting tile, they shouldn’t be greyed out in there.

Yup - just to confirm on my Columbus - one of them was greyed out until the other had been selected, then you could check them both.

Cheers for the replies

Yes I was accessing the sound settings in the main bit rather than from a source and they were both greyed out. Neither would let me put a tick in the box.

Is it maybe a firmware version conflict?

It’s a MY2017 vRS TDi, just before the facelift, if that makes any difference.

MIB2.0 rather than MIB2.5.

I’ve put it back to original, but will give it another go shortly.

Just tried again but still greyed.

There’s always one!

See pic below.

Typical as I really wanted this to work.

Don’t want to hijack sasha’s thread.

I'm the same and in the sound settings from menu, its amundsen found it in sound settings in media tab  ...all good now working perfectly

Look in media and sound settings there, wont work in radio settings or main sound settings in menu only activates in media for me

As above, I went in through the Media setup and they work there. Double check it and then come back. You can’t enable the virtual sub setting without Skoda surround.

Sorted!

Same here.

Went through media settings first then appeared in main screen also.

Many thanks

Success for me, not sure if I have done it slightly different. In the first picture, byte 11 I clicked on that then in the drop down menu it's 4 lines below, sound system internal individual was available to me on my attempt. I didn't change the page first as indicated in the top right corner. Still worked for me.

Great little tweak  thanks all involved :)

You can leave the switch on 0 and see the ‘long coding helper’ as it is in VCDS, or set the switch to 1 and see the Hex value as the top and just the bits with tick boxes. What VCDS does is list the Hex value in the long coding helper section so it’s a bit easier to do. The slider on OBDEleven is just showing that information separately.

Thanks Sasha, I've learnt something new tonight :handshake:

Happy New Year to you and yours

After using it for a few days I can’t understand why it is not enabled on every car. I can’t see any negatives for having it enabled, it makes the very average stereo sound noticeably better.
