Out with the old, in with the new.

Featured Replies

On Monday I collected my new car, well it's new to me and a 67 plate. After months of searching I finally found one with the extras that I had hoped for. I've stayed with the Octavia dsg estate but this time it's 2.0 TDI SEL spec. not a 1.6 like the one before.

It's only had one owner from new and a measly 865 miles on the clock  I got a fair price for the previous one, so it's been a week of getting used to the new car and it's features, etc.

Seeing as I have obd11 I have made a few adaptations, but a few more need to be made as I get used to her.

My biggest gripe to date is the faf of having to select eco every time I start it up. I've searched and I've not found the adaptation to set it to stay on eco. So if anyone can point me to the instructions I'd be very grateful.

I've changed the headlight assistant to come on at 30 mph instead of 45, I've changed the comfort blinker from 3 to 4 , I'm seriously considering turning off the stop start, but holding off on that for now.

When I figured out how to post a photo or two I'll put some up, it's lovely in race blue with the 17" trius alloys.

I'm doing about 22 to 24 thousand miles a year so I think this is going to be a keeper, well longer than the last one, I didn't have it more than 18 months :D

Does the drive mode not stay put? It does on my car. Didn’t realise that was an codable adaptation, thought it was standard.

Drive mode stays put on mine as well, but it’s a 2014. I’d be surprised if they changed that on newer cars but who knows ?

To quote my owners manual :

“By selecting the driving mode, the driving behavior can be adapted to the de- sired mode of operation.
The following modes of Normal, Sport, Eco, Individual are available.
The set driving mode remains stored even after switching the ignition on and off.”

I always turn off the stop/start due to my old school belief that its not good for turbo life. Keeping stop/start defaulted to off is one mod I’d like to get done.

I think that’s a setting that changes based on the user profile / key. I always have it on normal but pretty sure the missus key was setting it to Sport at one point.

No it's not Sasha, I'm hoping I can rectify it though

It did on my last car, but not on this one, unfortunately every time I start the car, it is defaulting back to 'D' mode or normal. I have to press the mode button and select eco on the screen, even though it is highlighted.

I will have to check the factory reset to see if it is a selectable reset option for the drive mode. When I coded the comfort blinker to 4 flashes, it didn't take until I had reset the lights. I was never aware that the factory reset had options behind it for different parts of the car. We live and learn.

I'll have a look at that tomorrow, see if I can find the menu, I got 3 keys with the car, only ever had 2 before. And I've set the welcome message to myself B) I'll have to see if one of the other keys is set up on eco mode, lots of things to get used to

Same here, not really played with the personalisation stuff myself yet. Currently it's annoying the missus by announcing my name regardless of which key goes in.

Sounds like a key setup, me and the mrs have different settings for most of the car, there is so much you can custom to each key, when you have it all set to how you like it try a new save to the key.

The mode setting stays the same its only the DSG that always reverts to D.

Check whether a pull back on the gear selector toggles between D & E or D & S, kinda think it's D & S but, give it a go, might work

It does toggle between D and S when pulling back on the gear lever as I've tried this. Compared to my previous car, this one pulls like a train

As uchuf and mark7 have said, it's possibly a personality thing set to the key, so I'm going to explore that option.

Using 'individual' setting on my car - 'Eco' mode for engine with 'Sports' for the steering to weight things up. No complaints here with settings not being retained.

Which extras did the car come with?

My 2013 with DSG always stays in eco. Haven't touched the mode button in years.

My 65 plate retained the mode selected, but this seems to default back to D every time I start it up.

It has 17" trius alloys, privacy glass from the b pillars back, heated seats front and back, usb charging points in the back, full led lights front and back, adaptive cruise control, humidity control, all on top of the standard SE L spec. There may be more that I haven't discovered yet. :D

I have spoken to Skoda UK, they are looking into the drive mode issue for me, they suggested I tried the other key's, I've done so this morning and they have not changed the drive mode from 'D' is the gearing selected as I pulled off with each of the 3 key's.

The chap said to look at page 58 about the personalisation, but my book with the car must be different, as page 58 in my book is nothing to do with the drive mode or personalisation?? I should get a call back by Friday, I'm hoping I can get this sorted or its going to drive me insane.

My 65 plate retained the setting, now this is supposed to be a more advanced model and up to date? I wonder:dull:

I'm going to try calling the dealer to see if it is something that they can advise on.

Do you have the Skoda app on your phone? You can add your VIN number in there and get the correct manual for your model car, then you can look up the personalisation settings for your key fob

If it's just the Gearbox setting, it's a known issue.  All the settings will stick to ECO (throttle/steering etc), but the Gearbox does not.  It happens on current Gen Superbs so isn't specific to Octavias.  You need to press the Drive Mode selector to get the gearbox back in Eco apparently.

I've just downloaded the app and it won't accept my vin just said not recognised. So I've selected the octavia manually, looks like it has a lot of info. Thanks for the heads up

One thing the dealer suggested is to long press the eco button on the screen like you do when programming a radio station to assign it to a favourite, so I'm going to try that tonight when I'm back in the car.

Yep, that's it, the annoying thing is that the older model I have just traded in retained the setting, this is allegedly an advancement?? Not if it can't be set and left alone, I'd much rather it stays on eco then I can use the gear lever to switch from E to S mode when required, overtaking and the likes.

Think this is a software issue across the VW group as it does it on our new Golf R DSG too. The gearbox always reverts to D. Less of an issue in race mode as you can just pull the stick to switch between D/S but if you're in Eco mode you have to cycle through the drive modes back to Eco to get the gearbox in E. If it's not in E it doesn't coast.

Yeah, pity that VAG don't appear to be wanting to fix it.

Yep, that is about the size of it. This last Saturday the guy from Skoda UK called me back as I was polishing the car, he'd been out and tried to replicate the issue with a DSG staff car [VW Golf R] this did exactly the same as poshphil is saying. confirming my issue.

This is really annoying as I have to wait while the infotainment system boots up, the Android Auto sync's with my mobile and then select and reset the Eco setting in the drive mode. In this day and age where every mile counts and time is money. when i asked if he could relay the information back to the factory to request a software update to be rolled out, he didn't seem that optimistic because the sway that Skoda UK has is little to say the least.

I have tried the long press as used when assigning a radio station to a pre-set, nope, still doesn't work. I'm definetly going to keep investigating this issue, As of yet I haven't done a full factory reset on the car, just certain options, but all the 3 keys welcome me to the car, I cant find how to personalise the individual keys? has anyone in the UK managed to set this up with their 67 or 18 plate Octavia?

My other thought is to see if it can be changed by long coding with either VCDS or OBD11? That would be the only likely way I can see of getting it fixed to a satisfactory outcome, otherwise I can see me starting to despise the car, I'm not a great believer of faffing and being messed about, this is definitely one of those things:sad:

VCDS not VAG COM

HI Stonker, i have the VRS 245 and the way i personalised my keys was through the infotainment in the menu "Car " Tap on function surface "settings" and select Personalisation.  just follow the prompts to activate personalisation, select a user account and adjusting - this is where you can find Key Assignment. its also in the Manual you can download from Skoda on page 61or if you are still having issues try the Skoda app and use the search function.

Hope this helps.
