2008 Fabia 1.9 TDI PD engine same as the one in MK1 model?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking at picking up a fabia but am looking for something very reliable and have noticed that even the 2008 model Fabias have 1.9 TDI PD engines. Are these as reliable as the ones VAG cars used in the early naughties as I've read somewhere that the later PD engines used different injectors which caused issues.

I'm quite fond of the 1.9 TDI PD engines as we've an 03 Octavia with one  in the household and it's such a rock solid engine that I'm keen to pick up a Fabia for my own first car with the same engine.

I'd appreciate it if anybody could point out an easy way to check the engine code for a specific vehicle. Apparently the engine code I need to look for is AWS?

Thanks in advance.

The Fabia 19tdi was made until 2010. There are 3 on Autotrader. You hardly ever see any posts in the Mk2 fabia section about 1.9tdi engine problems. You do see lots of people complaining about the dreaded yellow coil light on the 1.6tdi. Lots of egr faults, exhaust gas temp sensor,

Engine code is written on a sticker near/on the upper cambelt cover usually, and on the options sticker near the spare wheel well in the boot. Also on V5c I think.

I don't recognise that engine code. Wikipedia thinks BSW is the one you need to look for.

Example of engine code and number on cambelt cover sticker here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vw-Audi-Skoda-1-9-tdi-engine-bsw-code/183298162691?hash=item2aad6c0003:g:DU4AAOSwglVZ~asD

@m8t and Wino. Thanks both.

It could be I got the engine code mixed up. Would be nice to be able to just type in a reg number on a website and give me the engine code for that particular vehicle. Then again if you're interested in a car you're going to be taking a first hand look at it anywya so checking under the bonnet isn't too hard a thing to do. Didn't realise I'd find that kind of info on Wikipedia either. Definitely bookmarking that.

I'll be keeping an eye out for what else pops up on autotrader.
