And they’re on. And reminded how droney they are but that’s winter tread for you!

Still got at least one season left in the summer tyres but these winters look very new still.

fitted new dsg shift knob top and start stop memory module.

Also playing around with obd2 scanner.

What module did you go for? I am thinking to put one, I do appreciate and use the SS system regularly, but not at often as the car "wants" me to .... time has come.

I went for this one off aliexpress

https://a.aliexpress.com/_EvNdlEu

The reviews said it was tight to fit the wiring in but it seemed ok to me. I just had to untangle some of the wires that were already there and be careful ticking them down as you put the trim back.

The trim removal tool it comes with is perfect for the job too. Easiest done with the car in N.

It’s better than coding it out as it allows you to still use the button, it just remembers the setting from the last time you used it.

I'd been unable to link to my Skoda Connect since I bought the car in October 2024. I was living in Brecon then and the car was supplied by Sinclairs of Swansea and I waited until it needed a service in June this year as it wasn't worth travelling all that way to fix it on its own. Sinclairs tried to link it when it was in for a service, but were unable to do so and details were sent to Skoda Support and they reported that the car would need to go back to Sinclairs to have the issue resolved once they'd found out what the problem was. Our house was being sold at that time, so I deferred it until we moved to Lincoln and yesterday it went into Hortons of Lincoln.

It's all working perfectly now! I was very pleased with Hortons as they didn't supply the car but attended to my problem as if I was a long standing customer.

If you’re going to remap the car some will also code that to off as standard (unless you cycle through the profiles in which case it will switch on as you go through ECO). You can still use the button whenever you want too, it will just be set to off when you first turn the car on rather than on.

Glad it’s all sorted. And a tick in the box for Hortons too.

If you’re going to remap

Interesting but ... I have no idea when I will do so, and not sure the map will be able to erradicate this. Both VCDS and OBD11 have failed to exclude this system ... so we will fool it 😃

Racingline, TVS, Revo all do - 3 easy choices. But appreciate you don't know timelines etc.

Just had stiffen Engine and Gearbox mounts install along with TTS Aluminimum LCA's, the front end has certainly livened up now! 😁

Also a ground wiring kit to replace the individual wires on the coilpack bolt.

Ooh - what's the details on the lower arms. I've got a creaky right hand side which I'm sure is one of the bushes on it so was wondering about options to upgrade them.

Trying to read plenty up on this - has this given you more negative camber? If so, any need to change the top mounts?

Did you also get an alu subframe? £95 seems great value for a unit with ball joint per side rather than £00's for Superpro things!

I still haven't gone for wheel alignment! 🤐 Planning to do that on Friday morning so will confirm then.

Yes I have a alu subframe however a few guys downunder have installed to a steel subframe aswell.

I did change top mounts a few months for some OEM passats one, nothing fancy but i do have some which allows me to change the camber by +/- 0.8 which i didnt fit.

Yeah the Superpros ones are ridiculously expensive compared to this. This is OEM plus mod!

I was reading the TTRS and RS3 have wider track and so if they are slightly longer on the outward section of the arm for the wider track, but with our topmount position it would mean the wheel is leaning in at the top...? That's how it reads to me anyway. Would be interesting to see what results you get!

This evening I fitted the parking switch to the dsg. Not too bad of a job and the only awkward bit was disconnecting the plugs for the usb and power sockets. And also getting in to the impossible location for the plug for the switch itself. Once that was done the rest was ok.

No idea where I should put this, or even if it's worth writing at all, but I topped up on petrol for the holiday season yesterday at a BP fuel station just outside Kinross. I don't know how 97RON can be called 'Ultimate' but, even if it was, 171.9 p/litre seemed a bit strong! As I turned to leave, the cashier said a cheery "see you again" - not bleeding likely, I thought.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all, after another year's great reading and good advice.

That price is more than strong!! 🫨 I filled up with Tesco 99RON Momentum last week & I think it was £1.47p/litre.

I haven't used a BP station since my local one was involved in a bank / credit card PIN number scam. A camera in the ceiling above the card machine was reading people's PIN's as they paid for their fuel & purchases at the till. Money was being taken out of their accounts or used to pay for items elsewhere in the world. First I heard about it was when my bank rank me & asked if was currently in India? I wasn't so they had picked up the suspicious transactions. Not saying BP were knowledgeable as it was probably the staff acting alone but the damage was done I far as I was concerned.

I didn't lose any money because my bank covered the amounts withdrawn. That was 20+ years ago. Haven't used or visited a BP since.

Parking switch?

Rear shocks fitted on Monday and got a nice surprise with the bill being about £300 less than expected, as they’d quoted for ‘worst case’ including springs, mounts, etc., which it didn’t need.

Had the front bushes greased too as it had the standard creaky front end - seems a lot quieter, so hope this lasts.

As when the front was done, it’s now sitting a little higher, so doesn’t look like it’s got a saggy rear end now 😅

Also had an exchange steering wheel from Royal Steering Wheels fitted a couple of weeks ago in a bid to get rid of some of the lingering cigarette smell - it’s reduced it by about 80-90%, so very pleased.

It looks and feels better too, as it’s a couple of mm thicker than the original wheel, and is in effect brand new, so nice and matt.

Have a great Christmas all!

Parking switch?

The mod that removes the “warning workshop only shift to P” error. It’s a dodgy switch on the top of the dsg that you can retrofit to the top of the shifter housing under the trim. There’s a genuine vag part for it but I got a copy from Ali express for a quarter of the price.

Today I fitted an AliExpress reversing camera. All in all not too bad to fit. Just some awkward trim panels and cable routes. Had to hard reset the radio for it to recognise it but working nicely now.

And for only £36 vs £770 that Richter advertise it for.

Ah, I thought so, I’ve got exactly the same issue

From the video I’ve seen there’s a tiny pin, did you remove that and not use it? From what I can tell it’s only there until it’s inside the car then it can be removed but not entirely sure

I only had the fault intermittently but haven’t seen it since installing it. Getting to the plug is a pig to remove it from existing. And there’s 3 versions of the switch so you have to make sure you get the right one depending on your gearbox. One is only different by part number by one “A” at the end of the part code.

But I left the pin in as I didn’t have any instructions. There’s a couple of screws to adjust the switch position once it’s installed so I used them to make sure it was in the right place. You can hear a relay clicking when the switch activates to make sure it’s right. Seemed to go ok and not seen the fault since. My switch was £27 from AliExpress.

Have you got a link to the camera you got please?

I’ve been debating whether to get one, as long as it’s 100% plug and play, no cables to cut and splice into I’m interested.

Looks like your car is a 2016 too, mines an estate if that matters for the camera link

Thanks
