What have you done to your Superb III today?

Had the front tyres replaced with Michelin PS4s 👍 so wearing the same all round now, and gave it a quick wipe down with BSD.

Debadged the rear of my car and replaced the Skoda logo with a black one.

We spent the last 10 days in Spain. No rain, bright blue sky as advertised, but MAN was it cold! Which got me worried about my 40-month-old battery. So the first thing I did on our return was start the car. I am happy to say it fired up first crank! On my recovery insurance, I only get two call outs a year for a dead battery, so I was well pleased.

On the other hand, I am still experiencing a problem with the Columbus infotainment system not loading media files. I have to switch off/on and sometimes hold down the start button to reboot. This has only happened since 1) the weather turned cold and 2) the warranty expired. So, I'm hoping it's a cold weather issue. Anyone else experienced this?

I've only just finished catching up with the posts in this MKIII forum. This is a busy site!

Happy New Year, all!

TSR = Traffic Sign Recognition

Auto DST = Automatic Daylight Savings Time

Got it!!!

I disabled TSR as I was sick of the warning / error message all the time.

As for auto DST, standard isn't it?

I have no use for it in QLD anyway...!

I get no warnings from TSR (you need the high line camera and sat nav)

Added it to my last two Octavias sad it is not standard

I suspect that @ope126 means warnings about exceeding the detected limit.

My wife's Honda Jazz has it and I've seen it miss signs and thus show the 'old' limit.  Fortunately it's so slow to accelerate that it's never been a problem 😀

I have Highline Camera and Sat Nav.

Put petrol in it.

It wasn't empty, but all this talk of the price of oil going up because of – well, you know – made me think I should fill the tank. Shell V-Power 99 was 141.9/ltr. Ouch. Two months ago it was 2 pence cheaper. Five months ago, I filled it with Momentum99: 130.9/ltr.

Be very curious to see what it is next month. Good thing we're all rich, huh?

Just filled my Superb with Tesco Momentum at £1.309 per litre. Will avoid Shell while they charge £1.429 locally to me.

Yeah, I guess I'll have to drive that extra mile to get the Momentum from now on.

Cleaned the terrible water spots off the windows, noticed them when I was washing it for the first time a couple of weeks ago.

They were so bad the rear tinted windows looked like zebras when the windows were a little bit wet. Tried normal window cleaner, then half vinigar/half water, in the end I used some old car polish I had and some elbow grease. There's still some water spots on the drivers side especially (thank you previous owner or dealer for not drying the windows properly!) but they're 95% gone and means I can actually see out the side windows in the mornings now!

First fill up with reserve light on - wallet said OUCH!

It seems the calculations and display of fuel consumption and quantity remaining are more accurate on the current 190 III  than the 170 II it's replaced.

The II used to over-read by 16% on consuption, stating 58 mpg when the actual was only 50 mpg, whereas the III quoted 49.3 mpg and the actual, full to full, was 49.6 mpg

The range remaining in the II would read 0 to 25, and the max I could get in the 60l tank was around 50l

The range in the III was 10 miles, distance covered 690 miles and the fill up was 63.16 litres

I seem to remember the II was more accurate when it was new, so I will have to monitor this!

Thankfully not, but it still hurt!

Got my retrofit Virtual Dashboard installed. It really does make a difference in terms of the experience of the interior. The car feels a lot more modern again now.

Pics please?

Was the whole process flawless, or was there any tricky/complicated bits?

It’s definitely not something I would have been able to do. I contacted a German guy (Coding & Tuning Niederrhein) to do the install.

In short, here’s what needs to happen:

- disassembly of pretty much half the dashboard.

- two fibre optic cables have to be installed from the MIB unit in the glovebox to the gauges.

- removal of the old gauges

- installation of the new virtual cockpit

(up to here, with some tutorials, I wouldn’t have minded doing it myself)

- recode the new dashboard to be compatible with everything in the car (options, exact model, engine, etc.)

The coding took longer than the install, even though Matze, the installer, was extremely proficient at it. There’s no way he could have done it any faster.

After the install, we went for a short test drive together where he explained the new systems, how to switch between views (since I don’t have the VIEW button on my steering wheel), and noticed that there were two small issues that still needed adjusting.

All in all, it took exactly two hours from start to finish.

2 hours! I was expecting 2 days from the comment re coding time. As above pics please!

I’ll take some photos later today.

If I we’re to undertake the retrofit myself, I don’t think I’d have it finished anywhere sooner than two weeks. The only reason it took “only” two hours, is because of the incredible proficiency of the installer.

I didn’t get round to doing it yesterday, but here are some pics of the virtual dashboard I got retrofitted. There’s absolutely no difference with the original Skoda dash, since it is a Skoda part.
