FP2 and the low downforce Ferrari just miles ahead on single lap pace. 0.85 seconds to be exact.

However, long race pace runs on softs had Ferrari a second slower per lap than Mercedes & RedBull.

Confusing.

I've not see the times to confirm this, but the BBC were suggesting that Ferrari were more competitive on the long runs wearing the medium tyres. As you say, confusing.

And I really hope Albon does well at RBR - seems like a nice, modest guy who is still living with his mum. Wonder how much rent he pays her!

If she's smart he will be paying her a percentage (say 10%) of his modest 1st year earnings.:mmm:

Hamilton throws his Mercedes at the scenery in 3rd practice. His mechanics will have a busy time before qualifying.

Ferrari easily fastest again. Odds on another Leclerc / Verstappen battle come Sunday?

Isn't that his second FP crash in only a few races?

Found it - Canada turn 9.

So 3 crashes in 3 months, he 's clearly finished...

You can crash on Friday or Saturday morning. Don't crash on Saturday afternoon or Sunday.

So a several race old old spec 2 Ferrari is 0,7 faster round here than a brand new Merc Spec 3.

Merc do lead 2-1 on new spec motor blow-ups mind you.

Renault Ran Spec 4 motors yesterday (they call it Spec C) but back to spec 3 today.  Sainz, Riccardo and Hulk all take penalties as a result.

Think Lewis will be reasonably happy with 3rd on the grid and will see even a podium as a decent result come Sunday after his FP3 mishap.

If the race finishes in the same order Hamilton will probably be reasonably happy, because his nearest challengers, Bottas and Verstappen will be behind him.

That was my line of logic as well.

Hamilton leads Bottas by 62 points, Verstappen by 69, Vettel by 94  & Leclerc by 118 with 9 races remaining. I'm sure Hamilton will be playing the percentages as Bottas or Verstappen need to win every race and hope Hamilton finishes lower than second every time. If either finishes behind Hamilton in Belgium tomorrow then we are down to 8 races with Hamliton's lead increased.

Really good race by LEC/HAM. NOR robbed. ALB was driver of the day for me!

From today's race I think it's clear who the number 1 drive is at Ferrari.

Another race down and Hamilton increases his lead in the championship by 3 points. Vercrashen goes from hero to zero, 2 wins recently all goes out of the window when you throw it away on lap 1.

I suspect Alex has done his RBR prospects no harm at all today. Overtaking round the outside, overtaking on the grass, and with his tyre strategy he had to pass them all twice too!

Yeah he made a **** start and tried to get back all the losses with a lunge at the hairpin.

Every year someone tries to go down the inside there on lap 1 and loses a front wing at least.

Didn't the two Ferrari's collide there last year?

Finished 5th after starting 17th and did much faster lap times than his team mate. :D

Renault F1 Junior killed in Spa F2 race:

RIP Antoine.

A truly terrifying accident. No doubt the investigation will be thorough but sometimes it is just a very unfortunate set of circumstances; I can't imagine any changes that could be made that would have made that impact survivable.

I haven't seen such an awful racing accident since Zanardi's in 2000.

What with this tragic incident, and tomorrow being the anniversary of 21 of my mates getting killed, a pretty tearful Sunday here. :crying:

I believe that 2 September is one of those days that all members of the RAF, past and present, take a moment to reflect.

Yes I hope they do, but it's extremely personal for me.

How good was Albon's race?

I'm know they weren't all overtakes but by whatever means he actually made up 9 places before his stop, dropped back after changing tyres, and then made up 9 places again before the end.

And he beat Gasly who started 4 places ahead of him.

Well done.

Albon got a good start and moved out to the middle of the track to make up places. His team mate on the other hand made yet another slow start, which resulted in the collision with Kimi.
