Albon's race was surprisingly using an older Spec 2 Honda, as was Max. The Spec 4 Alex took for Friday gained him the grid penalties and was then rested to keep it fresh for Singapore and other races RedBull have a good chance of a win at.

Max reverted to Spec 2 after his Spec 3 engine wouldn't run properly at highest power settings - owing to being thrashed during his recent run of success.

Verstappen likely to take engine penalty for spec 4 at Monza. The plan is to have Spec 4 fresh for Singapore where Honda hope to win. Honda also have not ruled out taking more penalties to ensure they have fresh motors ( number 5) for Suzuka. Meanwhile the so called big spending teams still plan to do the whole season on 3.

Half way through FP1 at Monza and due to hard tyres, rain we have had Carlos do a 360 spin, Kimi and Perez into the wall. Max not impressed with the Pirelli tyres.

Fixed that for you. :)

Weird fact Albon has been told to wear a plain white Arai helmet in the Red Bull because the Bell helmet he wore at Spa doesn't meet the aero requirements for his new car. I suspect Arai pay RBR to wear their helmets and weren't happy for their rivals to get more TV time in Belgium.:bandit:

FP1 top 4 were Ferrari, McLaren, McLaren, Mercedes. LeClerc 2.6 seconds faster than Vettel.:blush

RBR are contractually bound to have 1 Arai wearing driver. Max wasn't comfortable with this years Arai and switched to Schuberth.

RBR hoping to get  fully painted up Arai lids for Alex for the rest of the weekend.

Also, unbelievably, the aero concept around the RB intake is optimised around the custom built Arai helmet.

What a bunch of dicks. The stewards should send the whole top 10 to the back.😠 Except Carlos.

This all started in Spa. Not very sporting tactics. FP2 showed how close qualifying would be and 7th time on the trot LeClerc showed his team mate who the fastest (and therefore No.1 driver) Ferrari driver is. Merc race pace should be good despite the straight line disadvantage. Predict Lewis will win tomorrow and Max 6th place despite starting at the back of the grid.

But who knows what the grid will look like?

The Monza clerk of the course handed 17 drivers grid penalties of 5 or 10 places in the F3 event for f***ing about in qually.

He has to do the same to those found guilty in the F1 event.

I would say Hamilton and Bottas are vunerable to penalties for their first run pitlane antics in Q3.

Vettel, and anyone else who deliberately drove through the escape road at turn 1.

Stroll for almost bringing the line to a stop into Curva Grande.

Put them all back 10 places.

That would probably leave Leclerc and a Renault, Sainz and Albon on the front 2 rows, both Alfas on row 3, and the rest wherever...

Nice easy win for Charles tomorrow if it stays dry.

Nice to see quick Renaults.

First time in many a year.

Ricardo finally got thru to team bosses developing in the wrong direction.

All 9 called to stewards.

Kimi for pole after crashing in to fencing.

Reminded me of a Moto3 race with a bunch of teenages waiting for the tow, at least Ferrari got on with it to a greater extent.

Charade.

F1 hasn't looked this stupid since Michelin rocked up at Indy 2005 with unsuitable tyres and their 14 cars retired after the formation lap.

Gearbox change after crash gives Kimi a grid penalty.

If Riccardo starts near the front why not?

Vettel has been allowed to keep his qually time even though it appeared he infringed track limits. The stewards couldn't 100% prove he did so.

Bottas has been allowed to keep his qually time because the official "Red Flag" time is when it comes up on the FIA timing screen, not when the flags go out.

They'll be disappointed - he only reckons on getting up to 5th from the back.

The stewards don't want to be lynched....now if Hamilton had done the same.....

Hulk told the stewards he missed his braking point at the first chicane and went up the escape road because "he was too busy checking his mirrors".

and they bought it!

Post Monza Qualifying penalties

07 SEP 2019

PENALTY DECISIONS FOLLOWING YESTERDAY’S SESSION

Following yesterday’s FIA Formula 3 Qualifying, a number of penalties have been handed out amongst the grid, ahead of Race 1 at the Autodromo di Monza.

Marcus Armstrong, Jehan Daruvala, Robert Shwartzman, Bent Viscaal, Jake Hughes and Teppei Natori have all been handed 10 place grid penalties for driving unnecessarily slowly. Each driver was issued with two separate five-place grid drops for two episodes of the same infringement. They will now start 7th, 10th, 8th, 28th, 18th and 12th respectively.

Meanwhile, Liam Lawson, Felipe Drugovich, Logan Sargeant, Niko Kari, Leonardo Pulcini, Jüri Vips and Ye Yifei have all been handed five place grid penalties for one incident for driving unnecessarily slowly. They will now start 14th, 29th, 22nd, 11th, 27th, 17th and 30th respectively.

Furthermore, David Beckmann, Max Fewtrell and Christian Lundgaard have all been handed three place grid penalties for driving unnecessarily slowly.  They will now start 21st, 5th and 1st.

Having considered the matters extensively, the stewards determined that the driver of each car could have driven in a different manner, which would have alleviated or avoided the issue of cars building up behind on track.

Finally, Pulcini has been handed an additional three-place grid drop. The Italian was found to have impeded Devlin DeFrancesco at Turn 10, due to a lack of situational awareness of the cars around him, while he was warming his tyres. As mentioned, he will start from 27th.

How are the youngsters supposed to react to the F1 drivers going un-penalised?
