Mk1 Fabia Buying Advice

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have just passed my driving test and am looking at purchasing a Mk1 1.2 Fabia as a first car, as they are cheap to insure and from reading this forum seem very reliable for the price.

I am wondering if anyone has any advice on what to look out for when viewing a Mk1 Fabia, or any Skoda from that era, and any tell-tale signs to avoid at all costs

The car I am looking at at the moment is a 6v 1.2 Petrol, from 2005, from a dealership near me, which offers a 6 month warranty included in the price of the vehicle. They aren't a Skoda dealership, but have good reviews and aren't pricing the car too high above competition, so may be booking a test drive soon.

Thank you, and sorry if this post already exists, I couldn't find one from searching the forum :)

@Samzo - When buying any car that sort of age you're really looking for 3 things, condition, condition, condition.

id avoid the 6v 1.2 as problems with valves burning out.

the 12v model is slightly better and the extra power is certainly worthwhile.

if youve got a 6 month warranty then thats a bonus.

They will have leaky rear doors and possibly develop a misfire at some point if its one of the 3 cylinder engines. easy to fix both issues so no deal breaker
