Ordering A New Fabia Colour Edition

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Brand new to this forum and away to make the leap from Vauxhall to Skoda...

I'm looking at the new Fabia Colour Edition in Race Blue on PCP with 20k miles per year.

Looking at the two different engine options, the 75 MPI and the 95 TSI. Slightly leaning towards the MPI, as it comes with £2950 dealer deposit, rather than the £2200 the TSI comes with. Pretty much makes the car £30 cheaper per month through CarWow.

My question is to you folks, how do these two engines compare to each other? Most of my driving is on country roads, with a little bit of town driving.

Looking to place the order ASAP, as deals only run till Jan 31st, so any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

If you are going to be doing 20 K miles a year and will have the car for 3 years then test drive them both first.

I wouldn't want to drive a car for 60,000 miles if it didn't suit my use.

The 75 PS MPI engine is a normally aspirated engine with 95 NM of torque.

The 95 PS TSI engine is Turbocharged and has 160 NM of torque at lower revs.

Basic figures only give you an idea of the difference.

The TSI will have a higher insurance group.

Most of my driving is in the country and I picked the TSI engine.

Thanks AG Falco

Thanks Falco,

Is it a 95 Colour you have?

I did have a test drive of the new 110 Monte Carlo with my local dealer and was impressed to say the least. Have not driven anything less yet...

Will actually be placing my order with a dealer down south, due to the huge discount they're offering. Only thing is my order needs to be placed by 31st Jan and delivered by 31st Mar to take advantage of the extra £500 test drive allowance.

I'd love the Monte Carlo 110, but it's £210 p/m with £1000 deposit. The Colour is £150 for the MPI and £180 for the TSI, so significant difference in costs.

I've heard mixed views on here regarding the MPI engine. Some say it sufficient and others say it's not up to the task.

Thanks again.

Insurance also isn't an issue, as I'm 33 with maximum no claims.

I have the earlier 90 PS TSI with the 4 cylinder engine.

This engine is better than my expectations.

I think it would also depend on what you are driving now.

I went from a Peugeot Turbo Diesel engine to the Petrol Fabia and not the Fabia Diesel.

The Fabia is faster, quieter, sweeter, warms up quicker and is almost as fuel efficient as the Peugeot was.

With petrol now being cheaper than Diesel for me it was no contest.

The insurance on my Fabia petrol is cheaper than on my Fiat Panda Diesel. :o

You need to test drive a 75Ps MPI first.

Thanks Falco,

I'm not sure I'll have the opportunity for another test drive, as my local dealer already knows I'm ordering elsewhere.

Coming from a Vectra 1.8 SRi 140BHP, so big drop in size, but I want the reliability and warranty of a new car. Also don't want to spend a fortune on PCP payments, hense Skoda being a good option.

Only averaging 38mpg right now and paying £240 p/yr in tax, whereas I believe any Fabia should get me in excess of 50mpg.

Plan to run it for 3yrs and trade in/hand back at that point.

If anyone has got these two new engines, would love to hear your experiences.

Thanks

My 2019 1.0 110 DSG is the bees knees, performance is arguably better than my last 1.2 DSG.  Race Blue is a great colour by the way.

Has anyone other than Skoda UK bought MY19 Face Lift Mk3 Fabia with the 1.0MPI engine?

Might be a reliable option, but as to doing 20,000 miles a year in one, i would be wanting to borrow one to drive for a few days first.

Ask Skoda UK for that pleasure.

Hi Rick,

Is that the SE L?

Argubly better than a Monte is some ways cause more gadgets etc. Did consider that too, in either Quartz Grey or Pearl Black, but with a manual gearbox. Again it comes down to budget...

I think on paper the 110 is quicker than my 1.8 Vectra SRi though!

How's economy go for you?

Thanks

Thanks Skoffski,

I did see some positive comments from a guy on here that was modding an Estate MPI.

Reliability was one thing I thought might be in it's favour. Not sure on the longevity of 1.0L turbos, but time will tell I suppose.

Need to get my order in by the 31st, as the test drive bonus deal stops then. Also can't be a factory order either, as will go past Mar 31st.

Thanks

Yes Razz, mine is the SE L.

Because it's a brand bew engine it's still tight so only 44 mpg on average at the moment ( I use the Drivvo app for acuracy) whereas my last 1.2 DSG was avearaging 50 mpg so I'm expecting more from my new one eventually.

The extras I got were the winter pack (heated seats and washer nozzles),adaptive cruise control (love it),front parking sensors and a panoramic roof.

Race blue was in with the deal.

Power on acceleration with the turbo is very impressive.

Bt the way I traded my last 1.2 DSG in with 27k on the clock (nearly 3 years old) and it was still running as perfect as the day I got it new.

I'll be trading in with 60-80k, so reliability will be very important. Although I guess that's what a warranty is for!

The engine specs are here (page 14), the 95 tsi is 3-4mpg better, so think of it as mpi needing 2 or 3 extra tankful each year in your 20k miles per year.  Say £100-120 (lets keep this simple and call it £10 per month extra fuel)

So your £30 per month saving is now only £20 per month due to £10 extra fuel.

For that I would get the much more driveable tsi (look at the much better spread of torque on page 14).  I guess the 75 needs to be thrashed more in a higher gear hence the worse fuel consumption

Hi John,

The fuel thing is a good point, as I guess going up hills might require an extra gear drop or two, without the extra torque.

Definitely something for me to consider!

Thanks

I've driven a Polo with the 75PS engine, and I have a Fabia with the 90PS 1.2 TSI. It's night and day. I would definitely go for the TSI.

Thanks vc,

I've heard that said before about the MPI and TSI.

Everything said so far is pushing me closer to the TSI.

So far no MPI owners dropped in to back it up...

Thanks

Just seen your Location.   So have John Clark Skoda got a MPI kicking around for you to drive?

They quite possibly do, but I've already told them I was going to Ayr as they were beating them hands down on through CarWow. At that time I was looking at the Monte, but decided to tighten the budget a little bit.

Thanks

Use CarWow wisely and you'll get the best deal.

Play them off against one another (even from dealers many miles away) and watch for convoluted figures that are designed to confuse and get the best deal for themselves.

Having a car to trade in can give them the upper hand in certain circumstances, like offering you more than you thought, which ends up getting thrown into the mix and you can end up getting a worse deal.

I hawked my last Fabia round Skoda dealerships but ended up getting the best price at an independent (£500 more than Skoda dealers).

If you want extras add them on after you've reached a figure then you know you're not being fleeced.

Make sure you're comfortable with the final monthly payments and be prepared to walk away (sometimes they ring back with a better offer).

I saved £3500 off the total price inc. extras by doing this.

I also found they are more flexible at the end of a month as they need to move stock on (they may have exactly what you want in stock).

@RazorRazz

Skoda Specialist cars are not going to bother if you go to Ingrams.

Ask Skoda UK where there is a car to try.  They are their cars anyway. Plenty showing on Autotrader.

If you do 20,000 miles a year you must be near someplace with one.

The MPI was going to be £4,000 off @ £11,000 and the TSI £3,300 off @ £12,300 so pretty good discounts overall.

Will get back in touch with them tomorrow to see what's available in the required timescale.

Thanks

You could always be a bit random and try a VW or Seat with same engine.  At least you would get to experience the mpi engine

I once had a mpi in a courtesy car, gutless thing that seemed to need loads of gear twirling to get any go out of it, and gearing that was right on threshold of 3rd and 4th at 30mph.  Glad to hand it back at end of day after servicing my car.   However I am not best judge as I normally drive a 110 DSG so any gearchanges were extra work.

There are amazing Lease Deals on 1.0TSI Octavia,

Someone in the Octavia Section of this forum was letting members know of a cancelled order for much cheapness but that was only 8,000 miles a year.

Getting high annual mileage deals is usually much more expensive.

The reason Skoda's can be good deals & lease companies get 'much cheapness' or VW Finance does it is because they are not in demand,

and Skoda UK need to import so many and get them First Registered.

If a deal suits to rent one or to buy as a keeper then they are hard to beat really.
