Hello, still here. Tyres, thoughts?

Featured Replies

Hi all, long time no post, i trust you are all well.

I still have 'Bismark', doesn't seem like nearly 5 years 3 months since i drove her, brand new out of the showroom.

Since then, my mileage has dropped right off, a combination of working from home more and my son passing his driving test so i'm no longer the dad taxi!  She has 49k on her and going well with no horrors to report aside from previous posts.

Gave her an early morning wash and hoover and very much looking forward to a quck blast later, i still enjoy driving her but she's in desperate need of new front tyres, what's the  current thinking on best rubber for a vRS?

Goodyear Eagle f1 asymmetric 3 or Michelin PS4s.

Good enough, neither of my local fitters have Goodyear but they do have the Michelins.

Much obliged.

This, though worth noting it's successor, the F1 Asymmetric 5 is now available. The tyre ratings for fuel efficiency and external noise are slightly worse, but reviews and tests suggest better performance.

Thanks for the heads up.

Don't know why its so teicky to get them where i live.

18" or 19" ?

What about Black Circles? Also don't forget to use Quidco or Topcashback to save a few quid.

Order them online with local fitting?

That's what I've done for the last few years as none of the local fitters stock the tyres I want.

Fast coming to that conclusion as well fella.

Boring old 18s.

Just got a super deal (i think) on Goodyears, £180 a pair fitted from Black Circles.

Thanks all.

Another thumbs up for Goodyear F1's.  I fitted assymetric 3's all round about 1 year ago on my 2009 Vrs, totally transformed the car; so much quieter, good dry and wet grip.

I have the PS4s and they are very good tyres, very happy with wet and dry performance. They have made fuel economy a little worse though

You can still get the ASY 3 from tyreleader and they are a reasonable price too. I just bought 2 Sava Intesa UHP and put them in storage until I can justify chucking the original plastic like Bridgestones. Tyres are a very personal thing tyres that some say are brilliant others say they are crap. I  have had The Sava's on my previous 3.2 vectra and they have been the quietest, best performing tyres that I have had but, I don't drive like an F1 driver so others might not like them. They do have some good reviews though with high performance Mercs.  The Asy 5's do indeed have worse figures for noise and for fuel economy. So You pays your money and take your chance. I only recently had ASY'3 because I couldnt get the Sava's at the time. https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-tyres-225-40-18-92-Y/?m[18]=on&m[69]=on

I visited National tyre centre yesterday and the staff there recommended Bridgestone or Pirelli if mileage was low as other brands tend to crack more if not used often or motorway miles?

I do less than 10k pa so will be looking into these and if anyone can recommend a particular tyre that would be appreciated

Cheers

Out of those two the Bridgestones.

You have got 49k out of a set of front tyres?

My spidey senses are tingling.......

I wish!

My post was a tad misleading. I took the stock alloys with tyres off after 12 months and tucked them safely in the garage while i used an aftermarket set of wheels and tyres. Put the stock ones back on a few months back but they were still shod with the factory fitted Continentals which we all know happily wear out even while tbe car is parked on the drive!

Apologies; I assumed you were one of the fanboys here who claim 50+mpg from a 245bhp petrol VRS and 60,000+ miles from a set of front tyres.

Please forgive me.

Haha, not me, i'm 'Real World'

I had the Goodyears on a Civic not long ago and didn't rate them - too noisy and not great in the wet.  Switched to Vredestein Ultrac's all round which were much better in the wet and much quieter.

Not sure it’s the 3 successor I read it was their competitor to the Michelin PS4S. The 4S is more track orientated tyre  replacing the PSS, the assy 3 is a UHP tyre and designed to be more road biassed with enhanced wet grip and comfortable. Up to now GY didn’t do a competetor for the PSS or now 4S. The PS4 is the competitor for the Assy 3. I would prefer a PS4 on a vRS than a PS4s as I don’t do tracks and drive reletavly normally preferring better wet grip.

I have cars with PSS, PS3, Crossclimate and Assy 3.

It’s horses for courses. BMW fits the PS3 to the new 850i for a reason.
