Three stops next week if Pirelli bring softer tyres and the temperature is up in the 30's.

Horner to Verstappen at the end of the race 'he's a lucky boy'. I assume he was referring to Hamilton's puncture, sour grapes?

Correct on all 3 counts probably.

In reality Verstappen was the 'lucky boy' as he was gifted 2nd place when Bottas had the puncture, at the time he was around 10 seconds behind Bottas.

If Verstappen didn't pit on lap 51 he would have won by 20 seconds. He's not lucky at all.

Didn't Ferrari have a double front tyre failure at Silverstone while leading a couple of years ago?

2017. They weren't leading but ended up 3rd and 7th after 2 tyre failures.

I was at Silverstone in 2013. lots of tyre issues that day

not saying Lewis is Lucky - as in benefits from "good luck" more than he should, or more than others do - but he doesn't seem to suffer from the same "bad" luck as others. how would the race have looked if the Mercedes' tyre issues had happened the other way round ?

Pirelli have blamed the longer than planned stint length for the tyre failures.

Since everyone did the same stint length due to the safety car, that would seem to indicate Mercedes and Mclaren have the most downforce?

Bo77as today announced as 2021 driver for Mercedes.

That'll be disappointing news in the Vettel and Verstappen households.

I reckon Alonso and probably Vettel are yesterday's men. There's plenty of hungry talent coming through. Perhaps Verstappen will replace Hamilton...just in time for the hybrid power unit to be bettered or replaced and Mercedes invincible hegemony to come to an end.

Lewis said recently that he wants 3 more years in F1 (probably with Mercedes) but does he mean seasons 2021, 2022 and 2023?

I expect so  - he isn't yet signed for next year.

If he doesn't sign up for some reason - you can bet the Verstappens will be in there like a rat up a drainpipe.

Renault protest upheld. Racing Point docked 15 points, fined 400k. Unclear if they will appeal or if Mercedes will get dragged in now.

I have to think that Renault and RedBull better be so squeaky clean after their mud slinging at the Mercedes teams so far this season or it will come back and bite them on the ass pretty quick.

Surprised Mercedes did not points and fines as well as the parts were Mercedes parts last year unless they are saying that Racing point just spied the spec of the parts.

Ferrari and Mercedes clearly going beyond the rules to win at all costs like the burning the oil as fuel which happened.

So Racing point  can carry on with the existing Brake Ducts.  RP considering an appeal, see what happens.

Minimum Front tyre pressure to be 27 PSI, 1.9 Kilopascals (?) ie high

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.pirelli-confirm-tyre-pressure-changes-and-strategy-expectations-for-second.26VNLwhtlBTTUFyPHoVh5n.html

"Pirelli boss Mario Isola has confirmed that tyre pressures will be changed for this weekend's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, also being held at Silverstone.

On Tuesday Pirelli revealed the results of their investigation into the tyre failures on Sunday, explaining that an unusually long final stint and the "biggest forces ever seen on tyres" were to blame for the series of deflations in the last few laps.

There was concern that the planned move to an allocation of softer compound tyres might have to be re-thought in light of the failures on Sunday, but Pirelli said the change would go ahead - though they would be changing the minimum tyre pressures.

"We are going up by 2psi front and 1psi rear," Isola confirmed. As a result, teams will be running 27 psi for the front tyres and 22 psi for the rears, and with the softer compounds in play, Isola said he is expecting the teams to have to run a two-stop strategy."

All kicking off in the paddock.

1. McLarens Zak Brown barely short of accusing Mercedes of colluding with RP. (Hope his new engine supply contract with Merc is watertight). Intends to appeal FIA verdict.

2. Ferrari will appeal the FIA Racing Point verdict re the parts now being approved for use this season.

People in glass houses FFS. Maybe some other team will formally protest the FIA Ferrari engine decision scandal too.

3. RP pointing out that Haas and Toro Rosso (alphatauri) also use other teams Brake ducts, and considering their own counter-appeal against verdict.

4. Renault will appeal the verdict too.

A very strange season.  Dani Ric 3rd fastest in FP2, and Renault have used the least amount of replacement  parts, things coming together for the Oxford based team.

Rise in front tyre pressure this weekend could mean some of those lead teams not being able to use their speed in the straights as they will have trouble slowing down for the corners without washing out with under-steer, will need to load on even more front wing.

Maybe Max doing well as well as Mclaren under these conditions.

Big tyre management issues this week.

It's hotter and the tyres are softer.

The teams have 8 sets of softs that they don't want to use, and don't last a whole qually lap, but only 3 sets of medium, which seems to be the best qually tyre, and 3 sets of hard.

In practice they're mostly using softs because they need to keep the better tyres for Q2 and the race.

The team principle of Racing Point was on the radio yesterday saying that all the parts were approved by the FIA in March. Now they get a fine and a 15 point deduction, but are allowed to continue using the parts?  If the parts breached the rules, then why are they allowed to continue using them?

Ferrari with their 'dodgy' fuel system / engine last year received no fines or point deductions, but were basically told to stop doing whatever it is you are doing. FIA still means Ferrari International Rescue.

Bottas nicks Pole from Lewis, Max starting on Hard tyres but 1 second slower than the Mercs and best Ferrari 8th 1.5 seconds off the pace. Question is how long will Max stay out on those tyres?

This weekends hard tyre was last weekends medium tyre. Problem for Max if he gets passed in the first lap and doesn't get pass again as the Mercs stretch away. I can see teams going for 2 stops rather than risking tyre failure.

Max looks favourite to win with 16 laps to go after going long on Hards, short on Medium (8 laps) and Hard to the end. Looks like Lewis gambling on hanging on until the end.......again.......hmmmmmm.

Congrats to Honda, RBR and Max stunning tactics from qualifying 2 and the Mercs eating these softer tyres with their power advantage turning into a disadvantage. Lewis extends his lead in the Championship over Bottas his main rival to 34 points.

Max in 2nd place in the championship. Vettel flying along in 13th place.;)

Vettel spins on lap 1 and blames his team tactics and watches his young number one Ferrari team mate finish 4th. Forecast for Barcelona next Sunday 30C so should suit RBR again if the Merc continue with tyre management.
