That’s very reasonable. Is the car well built. Is there any squeaks or rattles to talk about. I can’t wait to get it

Yes the alcantara on the door cards is a nice touch and no squeaks or rattles and plastics are softer/higher grade than my previous Octavia. Previously had the 8"Amundsen info screen but the larger 9.2"Columbus is very impressive and was over £1,000 option on the lower models in the range. Another solid 39.4mpg on today's commute and predicting 585 mile range.

Thanks for the update Shy. I pick mine up on Monday. It has 7k on the clock as was the managers car at the dealer. I can’t wait to get it and I’ll give an update after a few days.

I wish I had your commute! (Well not really or I'd have let head rule heart) 8 miles, in stop start traffic, none over 30 gives between 24 -28. Depending in how much traffic. Trip through france was low-mid 30's i think ( 80mph steady no roof racks). ( all better than a 2wd 2.5T mondeo estate, hard to better 22mpg in that on the work run)

First 5 miles before I get to the motorway are 30/40/50/70 limits and I'm doing around 27mpg and then 17 miles later it has climbed to around 40mpg, then 5 miles of dual carriageway at 70 limit.

It will be 2 weeks tomorrow since I collected the Superb and I just realised this morning that someone with shorter legs than me (I'm 1.85m or 6 feet tall) had raised the driver's seat about 1" (2.5cm) higher than ideal for me so now the driving position feels sportier and I can still read the nice analogue dials. Also as I approach the first 500 miles two things have surprised me. First this car gathers speed deceptively quickly and almost silently so I can understand why some owners use the speed limit warning gong to remind them they have already reached 70mph. Secondly it is proving to be much more economical than I expected, typically seeing numbers between 38 to 41mpg on my commute and this includes bursts upto about 85mph. The seats although not quite as nice looking as the limited edition Vrs245 I had before but at least they are as comfortable and they will be well tested in the coming weeks with three journeys of over 200 miles round trip.

Not many 272/280 owners buy their car for its economy but it can be very frugal. If you enjoy your cars performance and average 20mpg then expect 290 mile range from the 66 litre fuel tank. Mixed motoring may yield 30mpg or 435 miles from the 14.5 gallon capacity. Touring or gentle commute could see 40mpg or 580 mile range. Officially the best the 272 should do is 47mpg on the motorway/highway. This is what my second tank is suggesting (41mpg is 595 miles).

On the boring topic of economy, if low speed long trips are surprisingly economical, short trips from cold is where the car offers a reality check in regards to its weight and displacement...

Went out today for a couple of errands: 10min drive from cold in 3 deg Celcius, stop for 45min, then a 5min drive, stop for half an hour, then a 10min drive again. Relaxed driving, barely 2200rpm in D and very light city traffic, full trip's average: 17.5mpg  :worried:

Excellent at covering miles economically then once the engine gets warmed up and going, but definitely the car to avoid taking for short daily trips. In that aspect the same engine GTI was better, averaging 22-24mpg on similar Saturday morning drives.

Sorry to any expecting nearly 40mpg all the time. Here's a photo from someone who lives and works in a city. 8 miles each way. When its light I cycle as its quicker!

I did get 28 coming home the other day.

Completely agree re grip Shy. It just holds on even when not 'powering through'. A bit comedic in comfort mode though for lean angle.

Agree that's why I walk to the shops which are between 10 and 20 minutes from my home (0.5 to 1 mile/1.6km maximum distance).:o

Same sentiment Newbie. Bur regarding warm. I've never had a car blow hot air so quickly, oil does take longer though. Not that I can rag it with those average speeds.

16mph average SLOW COACH, move over Miss Daisy 280 driver coming by SLOWLY.:D

I’m going to try to get an average of 34 mpg per tank. I dunno why but I have that figure in my head as being acceptable lol. Obviously when I get the car on Monday I’ll need to sample the ahem acceleration for a bit but then be sensible for a bit......after all  I am a responsible family man right 😉

On a side note, what is the official mpg of the 272 4x4 auto. When I bought the car the advert said 39mpg but when I go online it says 33 wltp or sumthin. Is it two different tests or guidelines?

I can't quite believe it myself but after 2 weeks ownership I am yet to do a full bore acceleration from a standstill to feel how the weight transfers from front to back but I have a good excuse. The day after collecting the car I injured my back in Church stacking chairs so even cornering enthusiastically gave me a sharp pain in my lower back on the right side. It is much better know so might scare the wife on the way to Church tomorrow morning.

That was my aim 34mpg being around 500 miles per tank but I've managed 175 miles on just over a quarter of a tank which is nuts.

The latest figure is 33mpg which is the stricter WLTP testing. The older NEDC figure is around 39mpg which is the combined of 3 figures including laboratory urban and highway driving as much as 47mpg is possible but not done any journey over 27 mile commute yet. Today I was averaging 40mpg after just 11 miles.

Thanks shy. That makes sense mate. I hope your back gets better soon fella.

as you can tell I can’t wait to get my hands on my car. I’ll be sure to let you know what I think of it......until then keep teasing me with your updates and pictures lol.

I don't know why I'm responding but the 138mph dual carriageway run was exiting a roundabout at 47mph then flooring it for about half a mile, the only time I've been over 85mph.
