138mph on a public road in the Uk.

Sorry but you should be banned from driving. Where are the cops when you need them?

Even I, speaking as a mk2 st driver "more commonly known as the yobs of the motoring world" think you're an absolute prat for doing that on a public road.

Or over 70 mph on the motorway. Some would say that is irresponsible and it is also illegal. Shy was going fast for sure but let’s not all throw stones as I bet we have all sped at some point. We’re all friends here yeah lol 👍

let’s keep the thread on course about the 272 bhp model and how it drives.

For the record in the last 2 weeks I have not exceeded (I swear on the Holy Bible going to Church at 10 this morning) the 70mph Motorway limit once yet thousands of cars, vans, a guy towing a small trailer and a few small rigid lorries plus Police and Ambulances have all been breaking the National speed limit so on that basis I'm one of the safest drivers on the M1 and if you don't like me or this thread I suggest you block me and read something more stimulating. This is the problem with Briskoda there are some good preachers who like to wade in who have never committed a sin in their lives but at least they will go straight to Heaven First Class and made Saints, God Bless Them they will make worthy servants of the Lord Almighty.

Shy, do you keep your car in eco mode mostly. Also I hear people talking about the coasting function......what is that and will my SportLine have it as standard?

To conflate doing 75-80 mph with doing 138mph as the same thing is disgraceful.

Yes, some people speed a bit, but going ten or fifteen mph more than the cars around you, is an entirely different proposition - it’s twice the speed of regular traffic.

Dangerous, reckless, self-centred. If you consider that not only something acceptable to do, but then confess to doing it as if it’s acceptable - you’re a disgrace.

Coasting is standard and is basically the switching to Neutral whenever you lift off the throttle. You achieve that by either being in "ECO" driving mode or, in Individual driving mode with Drive set to "ECO" (Drive and Driving mode are two different things as you'll find out).  I find coasting has a positive impact on mpg so I use one of the two ways above to employ it whenever i'm in a boring drive.

Thanks for the info newbie. What is it you drive yourself?

I never once said it’s comparable, I said that some people consider all speeding as unacceptable.

i am not one for pointing the finger or judging anyone. If shy wants to do 138mph then that is his decision and he will live with the consequences if he is caught or the worst should happen. Now less about speeding and more about cars.

Yes as soon as I start the car hit the mode button near the gearlever and on the Columbus screen select Eco because when you lift off the throttle approaching traffic lights, roundabouts or simply going down hill the engine is cut to idle speed (even at 70mph which is a weird feeling) about 750/800rpm and the gear selection infront of you changes from E7 to just E to show you are coasting (in effect free wheeling) when you touch the brakes the car engages the appropriate gear for the speed you are doing. It is standard feature I think on all DSG equipped cars including diesels and is a major advance from my previous manual Octavia.

I said a prayer for you in Church and all those that have never sinned (80mph brigade).

He has a 272 with a tuning box (think it's a JB4) fitted with various power options probably with as much as 340bhp possible. Speaking of which there is a German tuning company I think called O.CT which show a remap for the 272 giving 350PS (346bhp) at 5,700rpm and torque up from 350nm to 450nm at a very low 2,100rpm. As standard particularly in Eco mode the engine changes up much sooner than I would using a manual gearbox. For example today it will already be in 5th gear at 32mph but then change into 6th gear at 33mph which is only 1,100rpm which demonstrates how flexible and how low the torque is set from factory for good economy/low emissions. Normally in a manual car I would be changing up at a minimum 2,000rpm inorder to not let the engine labour.

@bigmeg  ^^^

Thanks for saving me the time Shy :D     Power options meaning? Car is bone stock apart from the JB4.

BTW could you do some time measurements for me pre/after your remap? interested to see how much I am leaving on the table with the JB4 currently, although I am not moving to a remap unless it's going to be a ~400bhp stage 2 with GPF removal, otherwise not worth the trouble from where I am already.

Probably take to Santa Pod drag strip at least once to measure the standard quarter mile in a safe and legal enviroment with FIA timing equipment installed. Should be capable of a 13 second time with terminal speed at the line around the 110mph (176kph) mark. Will ask AmD (my chosen tuner) if they have any Race Logic gear and are prepared to do a before/after 0-60mph comparison times. This would be cool to video it with 2 people in the car if they can do it.

Probably not the first time you've informed people on Briskoda that you've driven a stupidly excessive amount of speed on public roads if my memory serves me correctly.

If you feel the need to 'extend' your new car then do it, but please remember that all posts must adhere to the Rules - and these don't. In other words, if you must do it - don't tell us about it.

Incredible fuel economy. I really hope I get near to that. I’d bite your hand off for an average of 35mpg right now

Just shows that the most important thing in a car is the nut behind the wheel. Bet Capri X Pack is slightly jealous. Enjoy your collection tomorrow bigmeg if you can sleep tonight with all the excitement.

I don’t know how much dragy can be accurate on measuring the quarter mile time, but i got 12.52 sec @ 175.55 km/h, on closed road of course.

272 superb with stage 1 remap

Thanks Roscio interesting numbers and even better than my projected figures. 0-100MPH in 10.45 seconds and 110mph terminal speed in 12.52 seconds very impressive for a large barge weighing 1.6 tonnes. It's good to share much appreciated.
