Yes.

There is a famous case with BMW featured a few years back in the old Automotive chat section.

Buyer has a BMW and BMW reject Warranty Claim as car was at Track Days.

BMW make a U-Turn when pointed out their new cars are shown at Track Days with Journalists & others bigging them up.

Sporting cars sold with sporting intensions.

Then the fact they sell off the Press Fleet.  Sell them with Warranty Voided according to them.

There is a clown on YouTube who heavily modified his new PCP BMW and was angry when the finance company took the car back. He didn't understand that the car was not his to modify and BMW quite rightly said he had deflated the residual value of the car so the PCP figures were no longer valid.

Just spit it out LLF new uprated turbo's x2 plus meth tank in the boot and upto 720bhp. Someone is bound to notice if you make all those tyre shredding video's.

I've been on both sides of the modified car game as a modifier and also as a motorsaleswoman (is that a word?).

I sold a modified Uno Turbo ie (mkII) and declared it to the garage when I traded it in for a Clio 16V (the original one :) ). I got a call after a relatively short while from the new owner, telling me the turbo had blown up. I said I had declared it to the dealer and he said he knew of the mod (it was fairly obvious, especially once you had driven the understeering monster :D ), but was disappointed. I asked if he was using the recommended octane booster? and avoiding massive 5th gear pulls up the M62 (Windy Hill for those who know it) and he said he had being doing exactly those things! Charging up and down on the M62 and running on the cheapest fuel he could find. I had little sympathy for him, but it does show that while I owned the modified car I had no problem, but perhaps I gave the next owner a more fragile car, or he was plain unsympathetic and drove the car hard all the time. Shy drives his car like my Dad so it probably isn't going to go pop in the immediate future, but it is a certainty that the life expectancy of certain components of his car will have been reduced. Simple engineering and physics dictate this.

When I was a saleswoman, chip tuning wasn't so popular in those days as cars were much less sophisticated and I only got caught foul of it once. The boss went mad when we found out as he said he wanted to be shot of it immediately, so we sent it off to the block. Perhaps he overreacted or perhaps he was prescient to it's future, either way he didn't want the hassle of it coming back with a con-rod poking out of the block (he didn't put it quite so eloquently!)

Usually, tweaked cars are fun for the modding owner, but a pain for all the next buyers imho

My ancient Mk.2 Superb 2.0 TSi was purchased when it was 9 months old, ( Feb. 2013) & was treated to an AMD Stage 1 map about 6 weeks later. I still own the car, it gets more use than our Golfs & it hasn't shown any sign of distress yet. AMD set the car up to run on 95 octane petrol, ('cos that's all that was available in this town), the before figures were

215 PS & 291 Nm, after the map it made 252 PS & 361 Nm.  A decent & noticeable improvement, but probably not enough to to damage the engine & transmission.

FWIW, we've also had AMD map 2 x VW EOS's & 2 x Octy vRS's. again all of them optimised to cope with 95 octane, no problems with any of them.

The (very conservative) nominal 200 PS TSi's that Skoda used in the vRS & Superb were (& still are) very engines to live with, if they weren't my Superb wouldn't still be my daily driver.............

(The last EOS was sold to enable the purchase of a Golf R hatch (mine)  & the last vRS was swapped for a Golf R Wagon (her's), neither of them tweaked at all, both are nice cars but when driven on the same roads / speeds. they burn more fuel the the Superb, Not a problem given our low mileages but quite amusing.

Current and last tank sadly now 533 miles driven. Have 30 miles of range left which will not get me home and to the garage on Saturday so will use a Shell garage about 10 miles from work to put 10 litres of V-Power in so at least the low fuel warning light won't come when I drop it off. Car now done 14,282 miles.:whew:

Totally unrelated to the above, but re. your Cyprus Holiday, if you don't rent a car but want to wander around Paphos, there's a decent bus service passing your hotel.  Google for "Pafos Buses" for times, etc. I'd recommend the 611 from your hotel, connecting at the Harbour Bus Station for the 615 to Coral Bay. It's a nice seaside ride & decent restaurant in the Hotel at the terminus. The Sunday Carvery is worth sampling....

The bus timetables & routes are all on the website, & an all-day ticket is only 5 Euros.

PS, enjoy your new diesel.....

Thanks might give that a go on the middle Sunday for a change. We often use local buses and do our own thing rather go on the organised trips some of which have been a little underwhelming to say the least.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Dropped the 272 off at the dealer this morning and only driven 17 miles in the 150PS diesel SEL Superb replacement and loving everything about it so far even the sedate acceleration. Noticed it changes up much later than the petrol car for example at 39mph it was still in 5th gear whereas the petrol would be in 6th at just 33mph. Also it didn't change upto 7th on the motorway until I was doing 63mpg whereas the petrol car would change upto 7th at just 43mph. Once I get used to the different change up patterns of the DSG I like the fact that at an indicated 70mph it is doing just 1,600rpm in 7th. Also not much diesel clatter even at idle and even quieter on the motorway due to less engine and tyre noise thanks to the 235/45R18 Continental tyres. More comfortable around our town also thanks to softer dampers/springs and greater suspension travel. Forgot how much I missed the reversing camera from my Vrs245 and the position and brightness of the blind spot lights not on the glass anymore is a massive improvement to road safety because you can see them light up in the corner of your eye without having to turn your head and actually look in the driver's mirror. Other things that surprised me is how much I like the virtual dash and quickly scrolled through the driving data to find it doesn't need any Adblue for 8,500 miles which is when the car will have done 15,000 miles. Another surprise is how cheap diesel is compared to Tesco Momentum 99 octane petrol so filled up with 145 miles left and put in just over 55 litres at a cost of £60.92 which took the indicated range to 850 miles which is a good start. Even driving the 4 miles across Leicester to the fuel garage I managed to average 54mpg and 57mpg including a motorway section on the total relatively short 17 mile journey.

Let us know how surprised you are when quickly ( well as quickly as you can ) accelerating away from a wet, greasy, slippery island ;)

@shyVRS245  Enjoy the car.

Who was doing diesel for under 111 pence a litre.

Tesco Momentum 99 is only 5 pence a litre more than Tesco Unleaded 99.

It did alright overtaking a van from 30-60mph exiting a roundabout so no traction control light despite the 360nm of torque which is 10nm more than your 280 Nick.:D

Sainsbury's paid £1.099 per litre George. Thanks enjoying it more than I expected. If anyone is wondering whether to spend £470 extra on the virtual dash on a new car deffo go for it well worth it IMHO.

First commute was heading for nearly 80mpg then road near work was closed for the weekend (no prior warning as usual) so ended up with a 6 mile diversion which cost me an extra 10 minutes driving and only managed 75.5mpg on the extended 33 mile journey.:D

Checking everything was present in my new SEL Superb including the 2 brollies in the front doors, all the spare wheel kit including the locking wheel nut and we noticed someone had pinched the green ice scraper from the fuel flap slot so the saleman did what they all do and suggested I keep the one from my old Sportline Plus as a momento. So if you buy it make sure they pinch one from another car first.:whew:

That could be a problem, my humble shed only makes 361 Nm  & a swift departure on said wet, greasy roads usually provokes axle-tramp.

The solution is to get the car moving before flooring the gas pedal.........

Of course, the Golf's don't suffer from these problems, they just scoot + they are great fun to drive, but they are a tad noisy for us.

After two weeks in Germany last year in the R wagon we got used to the drone, but it then it's always been quieter than my hatch.

I could swap the hatch for a late Superb 272, but the only one that I'd fancy is in the New Forest, not a fun journey from here.

I can't quite believe how far Skoda have come with borrowing bits from the VW and Audi parts bin in just 6 years since my 2014 FL Mk2 Superb Elegance with the 140PS diesel and 6 speed manual box it seemed dead posh when I bought used a few months old for around £17,500 IIRC. Now I have 5 choices for the virtual dash (chosen view 1 for my current obsession with economy), a reversing camera, Canton sound with a neat integrated subwoofer in the side of the boot and a quiet diesel with quiet Continental tyres which despite probably being of the Eco variety still offer huge grip throwing around roundabouts thanks to the generous 235 section and 45 profile. Scrolling rear indicators make it feel very VW/Audi also and the latest headlight technology should prove invaluable during the next 5 dark months. Best I managed in the 2014 car was 66mpg to Bicester and about 625 mile range from a 119gm/km diesel. According to the info the dealer gave me this 2020 version has 103gm/km not the 101 stated in the advert but is telling me after just one commute I can expect to see a fuel garage after 940 miles which is insane. Shame it will be parked up for 3 weeks from Tuesday morning during my holiday.:emoticon-0157-sun:

?

Do Skoda actually have parts bins for anything other than body panels, glass and interiors?

Any parts other than badges, accessories  and merchandise that have Skoda written on them?

Probably, wheels, seats & head/ tail / etc lights are bespoke but the oily bits are shared around VAG.

Exactly.

Bought in for the manufacture of a skoda and not manufactured by them.  Nothing special about them.

Then Skoda build parts like Gearboxes , DSG's / Engines that will be going in the other 3 brands without 'Skoda' on them.

Worked with a chap from Birmingham last night who has a BMW 520D and he was checking out the new Superb and was very impressed with everything about is said it must have cost at least £26,000 used given the quality and specification. Very impressed by the rear seat legroom and boot size. He was convinced it was a saloon because it came without the rear wiper but they must have Rain X the glass at the dealer as the overnight dew simply ran off all the glass as soon as I started driving. Only got 65mpg on the uphill drive home with use of ACC on the motorway but range has crept upto 960 miles now as expected. The Matrix LED lights are so good 2 other motorists flashed me on a country road thinking I must have high beam on yet they are fully adaptive of course. He even said if I removed the large S K O D A lettering across the back it would look just like the latest Audi A6.

Spent some time last night adjusting different settings on the SEL and came up with a good compromise for the 12 speaker Canton with the 610W output which really paid off tonight listening to Freddie and the Queen boys with The Show Must Go On with the volume turned up it was mega compared to the basic 8 speaker system that was in the Sportline Plus. So much volume, clarity and bass giving the vocals so much soul. 107 miles driven with 895 miles left in the tank so already reached the mythical for a diesel anyway 1,002 miles range for the 66 litre tank. This going to be a very comfortable and cheap large car to run me thinks.:)
