Yet another setback and a real possibility of reinfection?

Coronavirus immunity test faces a setback as some recovered patients only present low levels of antibodies in their system

A team from Fudan University in China analysed blood from 175 patients and found that nearly a third had surprisingly few antibodies

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2020/04/08/coronavirus-immunity-test-faces-setback-recovered-patients-present/

In 10 patients, antibodies could not be detected at all, which could also place them at greater risk of a secondary infection, the researchers warned.

Which is why South Korea saw 53 reinfections the other day.

I'm sure I read somewhere that mortality the 2nd time is extremely high

If they can't detect antibodies it's likely they never had Covid19 (just manflu/flu) and so re-infection isn't re-infection, it's just getting Covid19 for the first time - and if you're a malnourished (or fat/unfit) smoker then death rates will be the usual for that profile of patient.

I think they probably checked that they were all tested as positive whilst they were ill plus I believe many were also MRI'd to double check.

It's foolish to dismiss this as bah, nothing but man flu, I expect they have checked for other antibodies and markers for other flus and illnesses too to answer the apparent paradox.

They are experts doing this, surrounded by dead and dying people, they will be trying their best to come up with answers.

Nice to see MP's snouts are being well fed

MPs’ office expenses are hiked by £10,000 to cover ‘costs of working from home’ during coronavirus crisis

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8203723/Coronavirus-MPs-office-expenses-hiked-10-000.html

Meanwhile, the monthly credit limit for MPs has been increased to £10,000, a 90 day limit on expenses claims has been suspended and rules on the evidence needed for costs to be reimbursed have been relaxed.

Is it me, but has no one asked the question. If the testing kit received from China have been returned as faulty, how are they testing in China? Does this make all their figures totally unreliable?

10% unemployment in the US as of today.

UK relatively slow to produce its figures but judging by applications to Universal Credits here and the similar nature of much of our economies eventually UK figures to be same ie 3m plus unemployed sadly despite furlough scheme.

That's nice of them. Germany is sending 60 mobile respirators to the UK The move comes after the UK's ministry of defence asked its NATO partners, including the German Bundeswehr, for help.

Quote

After an appeal from the UK to NATO allies, German newspaper Der Spiegel reports that its defence minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has agreed to send 60 ventilators at no cost to its European partner.

False claim: Boris Johnson refused offer of 50,000 ventilators from the European Union

BBC's Andrew Neil defends Boris Johnson as he points out key flaw in EU ventilator scheme

Alledgedly the EU are still having meetings discussing whether they are going to make/procure ventilators, never mind whos going to get them when they finally get round to it.

Consultant neighbour told me yesterday most of the anesthetic equipment in our local hospital had already been repurposed as ventilators. Some obviously retained for emergency operations. Our local NHS are proactive it seems.

If you read, it’s to provide their staff with laptops/computers and tools/connectivity they need to work from home.

the other bit isn’t an increase, it’s an increase in how much the government can owe you before you must claim as well as the removal of a 90 day limit for claims.

Nothing different to what companies are doing so their staff can wfh.

Good to see the Mail reporting the truth, as usual.

Fake news, but they need to keep their readership foaming at the mouth about something
