KPH/MPH

Interesting. I came from a Mk3 1.5 and I find the delivery smoother in the mk4. Almost no kangarooing and power delivery seems generally more linear. I think the gearing is higher in the mk4 as have to change down a bit more, but that's no problem as the gearbox is smoother as well.

All my opinion of course, and my smooth drlivery could be someone else's unexciting.

It's funny isn't it that I had exactly the opposite!! Funny how it goes. A friend has a 21 plate Audi A3. Plenty of 'kangerooing' in that and I had it in the mk iv but no sign in the mk iii! I suppose it must be luck of the draw I guess!! So strange.

I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

Gentleman,

Just a quick update on my vehicle, I have now had full refund from Pullman Skoda Durham, however because I had taken the car to another Skoda garage in Middlesbrough (After asking the Durham Garage) there stated they wanted to see the car after stating I will not drive the car an agreement was arranged however the sales manager then spoke to Skoda UK he then came back to me  and offered me a full refund👍👍Happy Days.

I have now bought a Peugeot 3008 GT new shape.

Just had a "courtesy call" from Kate Laws. She said the factory estimate another 4 weeks for the kph/mph software release...

Good news however she said to me 6 to 7 weeks about 3 weeks ago so fingers crossed that this is the case however I was not will to wait that long so I rejected the car and have now bought a Peugeot 3008 GT 70 plate which it just so happens arrives tomorrow 👌👌👍👍

My issues have resurfaced with a vengeance, 3 days out of the last 4 I've had journeys with no working touchscreen.

I've started taking photos of the dashboard showing the errors so I have a record.

I tried loading the My Skoda app to see if the errors showing on the dashboard appeared in the app, they don't.

When I still had my Octavia, one of the errors I received stated the oil sensor was faulty.

That would be one of the more serious issues on a car I guess, yet it didn't appear in the Skoda app either. The diagnostic reporting said the car had a clean bill of health!

Conversely however, the service-department of the dealership I had nominated in the app emailed me twice to say that the car had self-reported the fault and wanted me to take it in for inspection (little knowing I had rejected the car by this point anyway).

The moral being, the app is a complete waste of time, unless you just want reassurance that the doors are locked and the windows closed...

Update: I've reported the tech issues on my SE L estate to Honest John. I received the following reply:

"Many thanks. Problems now logged.

I referred 14 such complaints to Skoda and the company claimed to be working on them (along with VW and Audi who have similar problems). Rather than have me forward complaints via Skoda's head of PR, he has asked me to refer readers to the executive office directly at [email protected] so they can keep a proper handle on it.

Under the terms of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if you buy any consumer durable that proves to be totally unsatisfactory, you have 30 days to reject it to the supplying dealer for a full cash refund. (You actually have longer, but within 30 days the dealer cannot counter by saying he will fix it.)"

I followed up with an e mail to the Skoda executive office e mail, receiving a standard acknowledgement. Although I only purchased the car on 29 April (and therefore within the 30 day period), the dealer is keen to have the car in order to attempt a resolution of the tech problems. I have stated clearly, that my preference is to formally reject the car. There are so many elements of this car that are great, but I do not feel confident that the tech problems are going to be resolved soon.

Is your car a first edition by chance?

As said, you are entitled to a full refund.

good luck.

Thanks. I'm uncertain whether it's a 1st edition or not. I only purchased it at the end of last month but I think it was part of a batch the dealer had. I'm also uncertain how to identify the build date. All advice appreciated.

Key things to look for are the higher spec (electric drivers seat and the blind spot) over the standard SEL.

also check your system information and your device part number.  If there is no letter at the end of the number on the first line, then you’ve got one of the early builds that seem to have the major issues.  Other giveaways are the inability to change the Speedo units from mph to kmh.  And the satnav units as km.

hope that helps.

Thanks. I have the electric driver's seat & the blind spot, but, interestingly, the later(?) device part number listed below. Frustratingly, the software & hardware associated with the control panel is simply listed as "unknown".

As said, there are many things to like about this car, but.......

IMG_20210513_191828.jpg

It does look like you have a first edition model with a later build.  Does it have the ability to change the Speedo units?  That seems to have been the trigger for Skoda UK to do something about or at least take it seriously.

My SEL first edition showed the same unknown for the same line items and recently the Replacement VRS I was offered by the dealer has identical to your picture. That was built week 45.

if you don’t mind me asking, but what are the issues you are seeing on your car.

The later build cars seem to be better built.

I know my car is not a UK spec, it's Irish with the Columbus D head unit and is set to imperial units.

ACC sees the KPH speed signs and converts and slows to the correct speed in mph on the virtual cockpit. The in built sat nav shows the distance in miles but I prefer using Google Maps/Android Auto which thankfully show directions in the virtual cockpit which can be seen in the attached picture.

I do feel sorry for the many left frustrated here and hope Skoda UK will resolve such issues.

Thanks. Fortunately, I don't appear to have the kph/mph problem so my issues include: "unknown" hardware & software as per previous post; SOS warning accompanied by satnav going haywire (rebooting the system by temporarily removing fuses 19 & 30 worked); the esim is far from reliable, but difficult to establish a clear pattern; Skoda connect system rarely operational; "Laura" popping up frequently, unbidden; the car stalling twice (both on roundabouts) when in gear & under load (manual box); intermittent operation of stop/start system; motion gestures work only occasionally; LED ambient lighting pack: uncertain whether it's present or working.

As said, there's plenty to admire about this car but it's not been a trouble free three weeks of ownership.

(Thanks to all contributors on this site - you've been a great help.)

I now seem to be getting weekly emails from Kate Laws. Doesn't appear to be any progress though!

I get a weekly call on Fridays only to be told that theya re working on it and there is no update.

How long can they take to 'work on it'?

I mean, surely there has to be a timeframe where they change the hardware instead of focusing on software that is proving so difficult to fix (it's been months afterall).

For a time I received calls from her colleague Stephanie Keenan however that dried up after the Easter break but I was offered and accepted a full refund + some by my dealership for my car bought on 10th November 2020.  My view is that Skoda UK would never be countenancing buy-backs if there was even a slight possibility of producing a fix which obviously for them would be the cheaper option.  They must have tarnished their reputation tremendously.  It is a tragic episode for a car which is otherwise pretty good.

We now have a Kuga with very similar electronic attributes, the main difference being that they all work fine including the Mobile Connect functionality Lock/Unlock and even Start Engine if you want to.  Looking at the displays and functionality the similarity is striking so why on earth is it such a major issue for VAG to sort it properly?

Good luck to you all, I hope that you manage to obtain some respite and relief of the stress caused.

Hi everyone,

I purchased a second hand Mk IV SEL FE 2020 last week and so far I'm very happy with it.

I stumbled across this post and I can confirm I have the same issue but it's not a major problem for me as I use Android Auto.

My system information shows:

Device part number: 5E3035816
Hardware: H56
Software: 1668
DU/CPH: H44
DU/CPS: 2088
ND: 21.1
MC: 3.1.4

I'm wondering if anyone has summarised all the issues so far with the Mk IV so that I can keep an eye out for them? Also, how do I work out the week it was manufactured in?

One thing I do notice is the first acceleration off the drive is a little bit jumpy but once the car is in second gear it's fine and doesn't happen again.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark.  The issue with the mph/kmh is one of legality with UK laws, not for the SatNav but the speedo. This issue sparked Skoda UK into action to try and get these FE models fixed.   All the issues relate to infotainment errors where you will get....front assist failure, occupant protection failure, freezing of the screen not allowing you to use anything on the system.

The jumping issue is not good, it was supposed to be fixed and some have had issues of stalling even under load.  I'd keep a watch on it.

Good luck with the car.  Generally they are a nice car.

Regards

Hi Mark,

Whereabouts are you in the country? I'm wondering if you might have a car that someone else on the forum has already rejected. Main issues are:

  1. Units on sat nav
  2. Unable to select KPH on dash - This is a legal requirement from the 1986 Road Traffic Act and no car should be sold without the ability to display KPH
  3. General freezing / rebooting of screen

For me, I had a couple of extra issues:

  1. Matrix LED lights were dazzling other drivers
  2. Sometimes Siri would be activated whenever I turned the wheel to the right.

For now, get your issues logged ASAP and make sure it's raised with Skoda UK. Even if it doesn't bother you now, this could make your car lose a lot of money in the longer term. You want them to fix it!

I feel like the odd one out in this thread with my "poor man's" SE First Edition with the small screen.

I haven't had any infotainment issues for almost two weeks (touch wood) since I started following this procedure when starting the car.

1) Get in the car and press the start button without your foot on the clutch to switch the ignition on.

2) Then put your foot on the clutch and press the start button to start the car.

I have had the screen get stuck on the Skoda logo a couple of times but if you have your mobile connected saying "ok Google" makes the screen move on from the stuck logo.

I'm got a call with Kate from Skoda tomorrow to discuss the above issues and the intermittent flickering fuel and temperature gauge lights.

Thanks @fox2319 and @Ajdude for the list of things to watch for; mine is an ex demo/fleet with 4k miles on the clock so probably not a reject.

I'll make sure to log the small issues I have now just in case they turn into something bigger in the future.

Is there a previous owner?

Just curious as my reject had 4k on the clock!

@fossman  Kate Laws NVQ in Business Studies and time with the VW Group might be very good for panning people off for long enough but hardly means her technical knowledge is any more than a Dealership Sales Executive, maybe even less.

Seems a bit harsh.

For all we know her time in VWG included a shed load of training and product familiarisation - just because it's not listed there doesn't mean it hasn't happened. I have had some very helpful and constructive conversations and I have found her experience in the business to be useful. And yes, I am a disappointed owner of a Mk4 SEL FE which has been off the road for six weeks.

Guess we all have our own perceptions though.
