I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

So update. As Skoda UK are taking forever and a day to solve this issue mph. The supplying dealer has taken matters into their own hands. They offered to buy back my July registered 1.5 SEL first edition estate for the price paid for it plus the cost of the aftermarket towbar (750 pounds).

They have offered me a recently registered VRS TDI DSG in standard spec. (With less than 1000 miles) for a significant discount on a new model and to fit a Skoda towbar for cost.

Fair play to them.

I’m thinking it over as I never intended to buy a VRS and no matter what it’s an increase to what had originally paid.

Any diesel VRS owners like to chip in on there ownership experience?

Interesting development by a very proactive dealer!

I had a mk2 TDI VRS but the MK4 VRS pricepoint is now much higher than what I would have been willing to spend for one. It had a good mpg when driven sensibly.

I guess it would depend how much you paid for your SEL in the first place (large discount or not) and whether you could stretch to the top up.

If you get a good deal on the vrs, it may be a great move to put everything behind but it will come with higher tyre costs, etc. On the positive, a newer car, etc.

I'm in no rush so happy to wait for mine to be fixed or replaced but I will not commit more cash.

Hi Coume,

Congratulations on your pending settlement.  My supplying dealership has also proactively encouraged me to accept a buy-back at price paid however I still await finalisation and settlement.

Having trolled the market we have decided to go for the Kuga to pull our caravan after 14yrs of fabulous Skodas but enough is enough.  Hopefully we will all be able to relax when this dreadful episode is finally put to bed and customer loyalty satfisfied.

My wife took delivery of a Kuga ST Line X edition in January and I have to say, It’s a cracking car. I’ve been really impressed and it’s exceeded all expectations, given we’ve never had a Ford in the family before. Good luck and hope you have an exciting touring summer 👍🏼👍🏼

Thanks Skodev - that is the car we are considering, we only have a smallish 2 berth but the power to weight ratio looks brilliant and it comes fully loaded so looking forward to it at long last as we haven't been able to fit a tow-bar to our Sept (20) MK4 on dealer advice due to the issues.  Hope this model will be stress free.

Good stuff.  I have a Ford Kuga 120 Ecoboost titanium as the hire car from Skoda and I have to say that it's a good vehicle and it works well with no glitches in the 900 miles i've done in it.  Yes the boots not as big but still good, and it's quiet on the motorway, pulls well for only 120 bhp and seems to return about 54 mpg. (It was brand new with 5 miles on the clock when I picked it up) and would expect that to improve.   Generally Ford's do also drive very well.

My dealer had fitted the tower to the car despite the fact they were not meant to.....I suspect they will lose out on that car....

So update from me.  With no end in sight and the Skoda UK not being able to provide a suitable hire car for me, I have taken the 2.0 TDI VRS that was offered to me by the dealer with a. full buy back of my old car and a full refund of the towbar that was fitted.   A conversation with Skoda UK told me that they believe that any cars built before week 25 of 2020 were those that showing the majority of issues.  So July 2020 onwards will not have the same issues (take that with a big pinch of salt).   They seem too have realised that they ain't going to fix the issue any time soon, and are "encouraging" dealers to buy back.

I'm going to keep a very careful eye on the software and log any issues with evidence so if things continue to happen I can get a quick resolution.  I hope this won't be the case.

The dealer has been great, I do feel sorry for them and I really hope that they don't try and sell the car onwards before the fix happens.

Good luck to those still with the issue and holding out.  Remember our rights and don't be fobbed off with poor buy-back deals.

Glad you got sorted.

It will be interesting to see if my dealership is trying to do a buy back for mine at some point. And the Week 25 is very interesting as mine must have been one of the last bad one...

@Ajdude pleased to hear you’ve got it sorted  Hope the VRS works out well for you.

I’m hanging on in there for now, though I don’t know how much longer. Like you @Coume I now wonder if my dealer will looking at a buy back. Which dealership is yours from? I got mine from Meadens Brockenhurst as an ex-demo.

Good luck to you. I really hope that you get a good one.

I have just picked up my mk III 2020. It is lovely. Driven for 40mins with no issues. Everything works! So happy to be back with a Skoda as they should be.

Good luck to everyone who is hanging on. In a few years time when all of the issues have been ironed out I may well give the mk iv another go.

Very pleased for you.  I have also had good news today.  Ours is being collected on Monday at long last for a full refund plus a bit extra for mudflaps and tank full of fuel.

I hope all goes well for you with your new car and that you are not troubled further.  Our dealership is Rainsworth, Sheffield.  Quite sorry to see the car go as I really do think it is a great car and a very hard act to follow but there is no way we could put up with the repetitive and intermittent faults and the attitude of Skoda UK.  Our dealership have been most supportive however - it isn't their fault, they haven't been supported by Skoda.

I've now got a set of Rubber floor mats (front & Rear) and also a Rubber boot liner specifically for our old MK but will also do for the MK4 with slight width overhang if anyone wants to make an offer?

@snealMine was brand new so I was able to add the 5y manufacturer warranty. From the paperwork that was in the car, I believe it came off the line on June 30th so would have been in stock in the UK for few months as I bought it on Feb 27th from Citygate Slough.

Useful and interesting information. My car was built 14th August 2020, according to Erwin, which I make week 33. I only have two issues, which are the SatNav in km and not being able to convert the virtual dash speedo to kmh. I'm not planning any continental trips at present so that does not concern me greatly. I was offered a hire car but eventually decided against it as I saw no point in my car sitting around at the Dealer's for no purpose at this stage. Waiting for the Dealer to advise me when a fix is available.

Well that blows a hole in their theory of week 25.  The mph to kmh issue is the one they are really struggling with, as it seems to be a legal requirement to have this facility in the UK.

My reasoning for taking the hire car was initially based upon the premise of reducing the mileage in case they offered a buy back but with a proportion taken off for wear usually a cost per mile. Just a precaution measure.

I can echo Adjude's previous post. Been contacted by Kate Laws today to ask if my car can be booked in for an extended stay, to resolve the mph/kph issue.

They will provide either a loan Skoda or a hire car for the duration, a stipulation being that I am able to fit my golf clubs & trolley in the boot. Should be booked in next week.

Skoda seem to be reacting well now that it is accepted that there is a problem. As long as they fix it without creating any other snags I'll be happy.

As my car was a dealer's ex demo or employee vehicle, it would have been nice if the person driving it had noticed the bugs & reported them earlier.

Might go on a diet of lettuce & carrots now that I seem to be a guinea pig.

Oops, pressed the wrong button & repeated my last entry.

My car has been with the local dealer for 3 weeks so I am slumming it in a Mercedes C200 estate hire car.  As per Ajdude I have taken the hire option to save miles on my car, & give Skoda a cost incentive to fix it. Kate Laws has been in regular contact but really just courtesy calls to say the factory are still working on it. My only

issue is the mph to kph one. Haven't gone down the reject route yet as the car fits my requirements better than most, but there will come a point when patience runs out. I can only assume the reason to keep the car off the road is the failure to comply with UK Construction & Use regs. I don't expect the service engineers are

continually working on it! The Merc is fine, but the auto gearbox is nowhere near as smooth as a DSG unit, & it's decades since I drove a rear wheel drive car.

It is interesting that the level of updates seems to vary significantly.

For me, I have pretty much zero update, nor courtesy call.

I had one call from Kate Laws on April 9th, she was trying to ring another customer. I informed her that I already had a courtesy car for 3 weeks and I haven't heard from her since...

Interesting indeed. I have had weekly courtesy calls since I left mine at the dealers middle of last month.

Similar to @golfnut mine was an ex-demo / employee car; I am though driving another of the Dealers cars - which gives me hope as this Octavia Mk4 is working OK. It will get some serious mileage in the next ten days so I hope Skoda UK compensate the dealer appropriately.

I had a phone call from Skoda Finance yesterday, they have offered me a payment as a gesture of goodwill due to the issues I have had with my leased car.

Just an update on my issues, since the two updates were performed 17 days ago I have only had the touchscreen issues once.

Hi all,

Just an update from me.

I am currently in the rejection process with little communication from both Skoda and VWFS. I called the 'customer resolution line' yesterday at VWFS only to be told that 'We tried to call our contact (later to be identified as Kate Laws) to get further information, but couldn't talk to her.. To be fair the guy I talked to was apologetic and I managed to get a laugh out of him when I described the car as "A good idea, poorly implemented"...

I  just re-iterated my 'loss of confidence with the brand' and ask that my case be addressed at their earliest opportunity.

Ho-hum....

/Phil

Ive just got my mk III after rejecting my mk iv. The mk iii is superb. Engine, whilst the same 1.5 tsi that was in the mk iv is loads better somehow in the mk iii. Smooth and powerful. Everything works, absolutely everything. It is a delight. The mk iv may look better and have better potential but I absolutely love the 3.5 facelift. Made me realise why I like Skoda in the first place.

I pointed out to my dealer that someone at the dealership had driven my car for 8000 miles before I had it. Claimed there never was a problem. I had my mk iv for a single day and had plenty of issues. These ex demo cars are being sold, and still are, by dealers who know there are problems. To me, that is morally wrong and thoroughly out of order.

So pleased for you that you now have a car that delivers your needs.  We had a MK3 for 4 years spending summers in Spain towing and sold it with 40k on the clock and never had any issues whatsoever, just wish we had never part-ex for the new MK4 which sadly wasn't Covid Free!!  It goes back on Monday.  Disappointed in the extreme with Skoda UK totally unsupportive good job my supplying dealership had ethics settling in full without deductions.  Now leaving the brand for Ford Kuga.   Interestingly it has much the same in facilities / specification but on their site there are no gripes about things not working or giving error messages.

Good luck with the Kuga, I have heard some really good things about this car.

Some fault free motoring is the least we can expect after the last few months!

Interesting. I came from a Mk3 1.5 and I find the delivery smoother in the mk4. Almost no kangarooing and power delivery seems generally more linear. I think the gearing is higher in the mk4 as have to change down a bit more, but that's no problem as the gearbox is smoother as well.

All my opinion of course, and my smooth drlivery could be someone else's unexciting.
