I'm afraid I've joined the growing list of owners rejecting vehicles plagued with the technological problems. (It would be interesting to know how many have been rejected over recent months.......)

Noone has ever broached the question of offering me an alternative car. However, I already have a superb so I'd likely only accept a similarly specced Karoq or Kodiak. Which I can't see them offering.

However, is there a point where even they admit that enough is enough? Has anyone got back in touch with honest John etc to let them know that those who contacted them still don't have their cars back after what, nearly 6 months?

Enough is enough for what? If you cancel your order and they give you back a deposit you have nothing else to buy anyway, unless you go to premium brands which still have some stock. And most people's cars work well enough anyway.

@neonplanet40 I did email Honest John with an update - but according to the auto-reply it seems they've tightened things up and a Telegraph Subscription is now needed. Never know, it might get through...

Have you got  a link for honest john?

The email address I used back in March now bounces back - as per my comment an hour ago. It does seem, though, that you can post a question through the web site - https://www.honestjohn.co.uk. There's a form on the Ask HJ tab.

Maybe ask Honest John owned by Heycar partly owned by VW Group if they really care about VW Group Customers having issues that has them without their cars.

Having just purchased car was very disappointed that inbuilt sat nav only displays Km and totally unable to change in settings.

I have also noticed that Virtual Cockpit does not display time in the centre, there is also no road sign recognition in Virtual Cockpit or Head UP Display, seems strange as car fitted with Lane Assist, Cruise Control and Speed Limiter and is not available in settings.

Even though Infotainment head unit displays default speed identifications they are not displayed in Virtual Cockpit when map displayed.

A response I had about the Kph / Mph issue was to use Apple CarPlay and use Google maps, this is not an acceptable response as you do not get turn by turn information in Virtual Cockpit or Head Up Display ☹️ Any updates will be much appreciated. Bob

Good News!

My car suffered almost exactly the same issues as yours and following a lengthy period of investigation and development it has been fitted with a replacement virtual cockpit unit - one of two vehicles to test the fix in the ‘real world’. It was installed early this month and I have provided feedback to both dealer and Škoda UK. Apparently they are talking to ‘Technical’ about a wider deployment of the fix.

I now have KPH/MPH selectable for the speedometer, a clock in the virtual cockpit and the inbuilt SatNav selectable to show Miles or Km. Lane Assist and ACC work better than previously too.

My vehicle was not fitted with road sign recognition (or the option isn’t enabled), nor does it have the HUD unit installed.

For your dealer to suggest using CarPlay & Google Maps is shockingly bad! Škoda UK have known that this is a fault since March/April, and was escalated to ‘the factory’ in April once they had several vehicles with the same issues recorded and logged. My understanding is that the inability of the speedometer to display KPH is a compliance issue as I believe the UK regulations state that both MPH & KPM are displayed either simultaneously or are selectable.

Whilst it has taken my car being off the road for a very frustrating 20 weeks to get it sorted I can say that Škoda UK have followed due process to investigate and develop a fix which, in my car, works perfectly. There is a fix and your dealer should be aware of it.

These are really nice cars, a pleasure to drive, plenty of room, and very economical. There is a conversation to be had with your dealer…

I would also email Kate Laws at [email protected] to ask her to put you on the list of cars with the kph/mph issue.

Very good suggestion @Skody123, I missed that.

Last week I received the usual phone call from Kate Laws which ended with the promise of a further call today.

I actually received an email which was just a reiteration of previous emails. This is so disappointing when we know through this forum that progress is being made. I have had my car a year now and am becoming quite exasperated that Skoda have not sorted this. I fired off a reply to this effect straight away.

I've emailed Kate a few times and have NEVER received a reply. Likewise, I haven't heard from Kate Laws in over 2 months. To say their customer service at this 'highest level' is bordering upon the rediculousness of TalkTalk levels is an understatement.

I sent an e-mail to Rod McLeod, the MD of Skoda UK expressing my disappointment after 18 happy years of Skoda ownership. He claims to read all his e-mails and certainly I was allocated a contact at the Executive Office immediately. She has been extremely helpful, replies to e-mails and regularly telephones to check on progress with my complaint. The dealer has also been very helpful, as I've related in another thread. Our only remaining issue is the inability to link with Skoda Connect and the MySkoda app, which was  easily done before the control (MIB) unit was replaced. So rejection is unlikely and the car is now almost perfect and the best car I've ever owned. It's just a shame it's taken four months to get to this position.

Further to my post on Wednesday I did receive a call from Kate Laws yesterday. The message was that they have one car that has the KPH/MPH issue fixed. The inference was that they are awaiting clearance from Skoda to roll out the fix.

One!

Is she having a giraffe, how many have they actually carried out the work on, only 1?

So that will be my car.

As per my posts earlier this month,  it was one of two selected to test the fix in the real world. I have provided feedback and Škoda UK are awaiting clearance form the factory to release the fix more widely (and quite possibly awaiting supply of components due to the global chip shortage).

I don’t think she’s “having a giraffe” at all.

If we assumed they have a number of cars that need fixing they’ll want to be sure the fix actually fixes the issues and [as it involved a hardware component] they are hampered by supply of chips. Real world testing on a sample of 1 is limited, what has happened to the second test vehicle I don’t know; but at least they’ve got a solution that works [in my car].

I kind of feel privileged to have got my car fixed; and feel for those who are still waiting - almost more frustration know that a viable fix exists… Hang on in there guys!

They have hundreds of cars in Dealerships owned by VW Group and surely their staff driving these Management cars (demonstrators) must notice some as faulty.

When I first reported the problem to my dealer, they were able to reproduce it on a couple of their demonstrator cars.

They still sold the cars and, having had a lot of communication with them since, I doubr very much that they warned the new owners about the faults. When I rejected my car, it was on the forecourt for around 3 weeks before it sold. This was months ago.

My was a Skoda UK car that was re reg.  it had done 2000 miles so why did the driver not notice the issue?    Also the dealer should have picked up on it at the pdi.    The dealer had it for two days and it came back worse, in that the satnav lost the ability to accept post codes.  It's also lost the total mileage and trip read out.

Are the new and nearly new cars in showrooms at the moment suffering the same issue?  Surely they can't sell cars with a know fault.

There are several examples on here of cars that have been rejected by owners for faults such as this being subsequently sold on to new owners - BEFORE Skoda have released the software fixes, so presumably having been sold with the faults still existing and the dealer knowing that the fault existed and wasn't fixed.

I noticed my car up for sale at the local garage a couple of weeks after I rejected it. I emailed the garage to ask if the many problems had been fixed or were they just going to sell a car which was faulty and non-compliant with the Road Traffic Act (unable to display KPH on dash). Their reply simply said "Thanks but that is no longer your concern".

If I hadn't already gone off that garage, this email alone would have given me major alarm bells.

The other issue I have, which may just be bad design is the lack of a visible mileage reading for total and trip.  Many folk will need to log their mileage for business etc.  There is a screen you can find eventually that shows total mileage and miles so far today but I can't see how to zero it.

Maybe this will help
