Hey, I have recently bought the camera from AiDu on AliExpress and installed it successfully on my Octavia 2019 estate. There is a thing that i want to say, the picture quality is ok but original is probably better.

I have got a question, the camera view goes away as soon as I switch into D from R, is that normal behavior? On Audi it turns off after some speed threshold...

I’ve never given it a thought, as it’s a reversing camera, triggered by selecting reverse, and only needed when in reverse, so why (or even how) should it still be switched on when not reversing?  While I might have missed something, I think I’d be more likely to be asking why the Audi one operates as it does.

Having said that, Mrs B’s lowly Nissan Note has OE split screen 360deg cameras, and a facility to manually select the forward-facing picture, which turns off above parking speeds.  But without selecting this, ie in normal use, it switches off when not in reverse, like the AliExpress ones.

Hi - that's exactly how it should work, and you'll see if you have reversing sensors the proximity screen would have deactivated at the same time prior to camera install.

You may be able to code in a delay if you have the right software, but as standard this is how it behaves .

Mine does the same.

It's not something I worry about and given the cost of the camera, it's an acceptable compromise IMO.

Thank you guys! Yeah it's well worth every penny! And also it was fun installing it :) I ordered the one with wash function because of estate but the pipe that came with the camera is too short, so I had to order another one from Škoda for like 7 euro...

Practice a bit more, then you won’t need to manoeuvre, just reverse straight to it… 👹👹👹

(says he who hasn’t towed for many years, and would definitely need a LOT of practice now…)

Read through the whole thread, really great advice. One quick question, is it possible to deactivate the red/green and yellow steering lines? (or even adjust them so that they relate to reality)

The other thing I'm wondering is if there could be a second protective film on the lens?

I took one off when I first installed the camera, but when looking carefully at the lens, I do wonder if there is a second one??image.thumb.jpeg.6febd9fbae898da532d2afcee5cadf7e.jpeg

I have just recently completed installing a camera, so many thanks to @weyland for the original post and detailed install information.

My car is a 2015 Octavia estate but has the updated MIB2.5 Columbus infotainment system. The Aliexpress listing for the plug and play version specifies that it is compatible with 2017 onwards 'facelift' cars only - I took a chance that this refers to the infotainment system rather than the vehicle as a whole and the good news is that it does - the camera works perfectly including the guidance lines.

I routed the cable up the A pillar and through the headlining, guided by a length of stiff garden wire and it was easier to do than I feared. The hardest part was the final bit inside the tailgate, with a stubborn plastic rivet to remove the upper trim panel and the guide wire getting caught up inside the box section 😠 Some mild swearing was involved but I got there eventually...

The kit I ordered was MQB-Cam A link here and the boot handle/camera is a perfect fit in the tailgate. For just under £30 delivered this is a great upgrade to the car.

Hi @weyland / all,

Just getting around to doing the install now but having an issue trying to extract the unit - did yours pull all the way out?

I can only get mine this far, as the cables are preventing it from pulling out further, have tried to pull out the connector out from underneath/behind the head unit but it's proving difficult.

Also tried pulling the cables to get some more slack but very little give in them to pull out any further

Any tips appreciated - thanks!

Hi - you don't need to pull it out all of the way to plug the new harness in. You should have plenty of room here to plug in the new connector block in to the back. I lay on my back looking up from the foot well to do mine as I didn't have as much slack as you have here.

Good luck - you should be fine.

Thanks @weylandall installed and working now, The cable routing process was surprisingly easy.

Hi and many thanks to @weyland and all other contributors to this thread! got my camera (Cam-A) last week and decided the weekend just gone would be my D-Day.

Took about three hours on Saturday and half an hour on Sunday to neaten things up/make sure boot trim was back in place properly. started at the front to check the camera was working and had the devils own job of getting the media unit out and back in again once the harness was fitted, some lying in the footwell and wiggling around managed to get it back in! moved to the rear to check the new boot release switch would work which it did RESULT! decided on the lower route for the video cable as i didnt fancy getting too close to the curtain airbags, then my first error of tracking the video feed cable from front to back which left me getting the bigger end of the connector through the boot gator/grommet..... good 45 minutes, a lot of swearing and a sore back later it was through and fed though the left boot panels to be plugged into the boot release plug and jobs a goodun, all works perfectly, probably just take a little time getting used to it but its really good for the money!

anyone reading this thread wondering if they can or can't do it, just go for it! the knowledge and information in this thread is invaluable and helped me a lot! so did a good set of trim removal tools from amazon and a multlibit screw driver from Aldi with the torx bit required the inner boot pulldown! now onto the list of new black badges and a maxton kit, i'm feeling very brave and very mekanic!

I installed mine ages ago, and when it works, it works fine, but a lot of the time it doesn’t, the screen is blank, as I’ve posted previously.  But I’d not mentioned that the message ‘parking pilot currently not available ’ (or words to that effect) comes up on the screen once reverse is de-selected.  The OE sensors still sound, and display at the side of the otherwise blank screen.  Does this extra info give anyone any clue as to why the camera only works intermittently?  I’ve checked all the connections several times, to no effect.

I've installed recently a camera on my Skoda Octavia Estate mk3 (09.2017), it works when I reverse, but I'm struggling to get the trajectory lanes and other camera modes to show up as I only have brightness and color settings also there are 4 errors in the ECU related to the 6C camera:

PXL_20241120_115451051.thumb.jpg.ac274caf529e1a25f728fd980dffa18c.jpg

My head unit is (I recon it's Amundsen) MIB STD2 ZR +/NAV 5Q0035874C

The camera is from China with highline wiring harness 3V0827566N

What I tried to do in VCDS:

1) Address 19, add 6C to the installation list

2) Address 10, coding, tick byte 2 bit 4

3) Address 5F, adaptions, change Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B to "activated"

4) Address 5F, adaptions, change Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2-VPS_0x0B_msg_bus to "Infotainment data bus"

Whenever I activate the 3) step the head unit stops showing the video and no parking graphics shows up, there is just the black screen with a warning "Trunk lid is open! Make sure it's safe to drive..."

I tried a lot of other settings to no avai.

Anyway, these are the errors related to the camera when I deactivate the third step:

Wrong firmware on the camera...

Same issue here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/445448-rear-view-camera-retrofit/?do=findComment&comment=5656532

Resolved by flashing the correct firmware/parameters using VCP: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/445448-rear-view-camera-retrofit/?do=findComment&comment=5663610

Might be worth contacting the seller as they probably sent the wrong one out :)

Thanks! I talked to the seller and he gave me these two files to flash the camera and I hope I can flash it with ODIS + VAS5054A, once I do that I will update. Cheers.

I can't flash the camera. Does anybody know why the VCP won't allow me to use the frf file and throws the following error "File "FL_5Q0980556B__0231.odx" not found - Native error: 00015"?
