Nurburgring Trip 18th-21st August '06

If the traffic is pretty clear and there isn't to many closures then 20 laps over a weekend is easy.

I've done over 20 laps in one day no problem.

But i have a feeling the weekend may be busy, there are definately some other forums going along and a company that organizes trips has a trip that weekend aswell.

I'm hoping its as quiet as it was last year for the DTM weekend.

It was the quietest i've seen it so fingers crossed.

Wonder what you voted in that poll then! :P

As an aside (a very much needed aside.... :D) have I paid for the trip in full now? Ferry booked' date=' accommodation paid for? Was that in that cheque Alex? :o Just diesel and food/drink now then?[/quote']

Yes mate,

all paid for except your fuel, food and lap payment.

Will hopefully post the room arrangements this evening when i get in from work.

And currently i have a small problem in that my passenger may have to work the Friday morning.

Hopefully this won't be the case but if it is all details and directions will be passed onto Andy,Jeff and my brother.

As i will have to get a later tunnel and i'll be playing catch-up,i'm sure i can make good time if thats the case!!!!!

Will keep you all updated.

For those that haven't been before......laps are purchased from a machine in the car park and in March were 16euros per lap, but do work out less if you buy in bulk. If you get to the Ring Friday evening I'd suggest buying maybe 5/6/12 laps then, while it's quiet, as you can use them the following day.

Please note though....AND please DO note, that some tickets can not be carried forward to the next day, so check before you buy. The 'more lap' tickets are valid for the year.

Octy VRS owners, that little plastic clip on the windscreen/pillar, it ideal for ticket storage.

I think i'll be buying the half year ticket for 395 Euros as i have a feeling i'll be going back before the year is over.

And even though you shouldn't me and my brother can use it so saving a bit of money at the same time.

You get a transponder now to go through the gate on the start finish straight.

Damn... How much time while we're over there is being devoted to purely Nurburgring laps? :D Its just I'm trying to work out if its normal to have to wait between laps,. or queue up? I'm gonna have to make a rash decision once there how much to buy. Would hope 15 laps would do me, but I have a feeling I'll get addicted and the VISA will be getting hammered big time.

You will need to let the car cool down after every lap (unless you want to break it). Of course if you've got uprated brake pads, discs, hoses and fluid, you should be okay. But I'd wait. You could always go karting while letting the car cool down...

Good point. not pushed my 312s to the absolute limit, plus I won't be treating the ring like a true track, such as Angelsey / Brunters. :)

Would hope 2 laps at a time would be cool. Really must see about getting an oil temp/pressure gauge fitted soon....

Fabia owners have a similar clip also :D

I shall simply bring a roll of sellotape.

You don't want to be sticking the ticket to anything and damaging the ticket as you have to put it in the machine everytime you go out for a lap.

And the most laps i've ever done in one stint is 3 and that is approx 30mins of concentration.

But i must remind you all NOT TO TIME yourselves.

I want everyone to go home in one piece after having had a fantastic time and with a respect for the best place in for drivers!!!!!

If there's no queue's then why not continue to lap as much as you want to? There are few heavy braking sections on the track and the final straight before the exit is a good place to 'cruise' down, cooling the car down in the process.

I really don't see a problem with doing numerous back 2 back laps.........However Wrighty does have a very valid point regarding concentration, driver fatigue may be an issue.

3 laps = 30 minutes ...... was you on foot? :P

Lance

3 laps is also 39 miles which is a long enough journey when just going from A to B. :D

Lance

Well i'm not going to set a bad example to the first timers am i!!!!!;)

And yes i'm a bit quicker than that but i don't time myself as i've already had one incident which cost me 870 Euro's!!!!!Not to mention the damage to the car..........

So all be warned its expensive the armco/barriers!!!!

If can clock a 10 minute lap, "timed" roughly just using the clock in the car, then I'll be happy. Actually, rather than do this though, i might reset my MFA each lap, and just keep an eye on the average speed. I reckon if I can average 70mph around the whole thing, it will be excellent.

According to Ben Lovejoy, someone last weekend was hit with a E5k+ bill for a smack at the FoxHole. This was to cover Armco & track damage as well as closure time.

Ouch!!!..........Oh the car was a real mess as well.

Your right Lance the car was a right mess,

did you see the pictures on his report?

And he wasn't even really going for it as was having some training.

Got to feel very sorry for him, just to go over it again its not a race.

I want everyone to enjoy themselves but not to get carried away, the last thing we want is an incident to spoil what i'm hoping will be an excellent trip with a group of likeminded petrolheads!!!!!

UPDATE 28th July 7:45am

Hello everyone,

a further update, have sat down at work(Not very busy obviously)to fill out the registration form's properly for arrival at the CP.

I know this is going to be a pain as i've already asked for some details but i need some more.

This will make check-in far quicker when we arrive so i hope you all understand why i'm filling in the sheet now.

So we might aswell start again,so could you all send me these details again:

If any of you would like my number now i'll PM it to you so you've all got it before hand.

I guess it would be best if we all had the majority of numbers before we left so once i've got them all i'll list them and then PM everyone who's going so you've got them before we leave.

Best if you can all PM me separately so i don't get confused with who is who!!!

Top video!! Shame about the crash............especially considering the location and the speed involved.

I must second Wrighty's caution here......The Ring is the absolute 'tops' for car/bike fanatics, however over the years I have seen some horrific crashes there, no doubt with the majority down to people trying too hard, to soon.

A few cautious laps, looking ahead & behind, whilst learning the track will pay off in the long run. Smoothness is the key to a good lap, as is finishing the lap.
