OK, so it was worth waiting for.

Wow very nice.

Just been told my car ordered 20 may is still awaiting a build date.last update was 28/02/2022 for delivery.

Just spoke to my dealer. My car is on the critical car list - meaning I have specification they cannot deliver at this time. The problem are side assist system and rearview camera. He said if I want the car without this I will get it sooner. But he doesn't know how much sooner or when. So I guess my 8 month waiting period will extend for some time. I got the feeling that the car will not be done this year......

VRS Estate 2.0 TSI with Winter Pack and rubber mats ordered 11th May , no build date yet. Wonder if the mats have put mine on the critical list. Looks like a 22 plate for me

That's worrying, as we've specced them as well. Salesman was confident of 27-33 weeks when we ordered a few weeks ago, obviously he's incredibly optimistic going by the experiences on here. Could do with it arriving before August as the Astra is due a major service + MOT then....

Let me share my experience as well.

I ordered my car on 1st of February and was quoted 1 to 3 months (no special additions, only heated seats and ACC). After almost 3 months there was no word from dealer, so I contacted him and asked what is the situation with my order. He then said that there are short delays because of chip shortage and that delivery is week 25 (end of June). So end of June was approaching and again no word from him so I contact him again at the beginning of June and he gives me delivery date for week 33 (end of August), saying that model year changed and this delayed delivery. Then on 24th of August I get email that car was produced and that I can expect delivery soon (I was a bit sceptical, since I read this forum and saw what was happening). So the story repeats itself no word from him, so I contacted him in middle of September and he says that car is produced but waiting missing parts with no info on delivery. In middle of October I contacted him again and I get same answer, car produced with missing part and no delivery date. So today (closing on 10 months) still waiting for some information about delivery.

I also contacted Škoda directly but got same generic email response as everybody else on this forum.

I understand that there is problem with chip production and have no problem waiting, but communication from my dealer is terrible and I'm pretty sure they know  approximately when cars could be delivered but they choose to hide this information so that they can adjust deliveries that suits them and not customers. If they where more open about the situation and why cars are delayed, I think that people would be more understandable. But it is what it is, all we can do is wait :)

i think most dealers will not tell customers the truth about delivery times, they will tell you 6 months when they know it's likely to be nearer 12 months .

they know that once you have paid your deposit and waited 6 months or so , your not going to cancel as you have probably made your mind up about the car and will wait a bit longer as cancelling = back to the end of the queue with a possible price increase as prices probably have gone up   😂😂😂

out of interest, when you ordered your car, if the  dealer had told you 1 year for delivery, would you still have ordered ?

I understand that there is massive delays but nobody can tell me dealers  or lease companies did not know knew this ,when recieving orders for these cars.surly they have treated customers in a disgraceful manner and should of told customers the truth in First place.only whished I knew when I first ordered my car in may.if anyone from skoda ever reads these page .your company is a disgrace for telling blatant lies.

On the best year of first registrations of Skoda on the UK it is under 80,000 vehicles. That means all Skoda models do not sell in much more numbers than just the best selling models from VW, Vauxhall or Ford. (2019 Ford Fiesta 77,000)   A good number of those from any manufacturer  that come in in normal years being demonstrators and registered to Skoda / VW when a model is not selling well but they want registrations looking good and no model being seen as a flop.  Also cars get punted out cheap to whoever, fleet, hire etc for a few months to bump up registrations. This keeps the trade in used cars as they want as well.  So maybe look at Skoda First Registrations in the UK in 2021 up till July to see just how many have come in. People have been getting cars as quickly as Skoda UK can get then in allowing for a world wide pandemic, brexit / transport and a chip shortage.   They might well be reducing the number of higher emission cars in until the Average C02 figure is as VW group need it to be.

EDIT.

@GregB11x at what dealership did you order you car? It looks like your dealer is more open about the situation.

You just described my dealer (Porsche Verovškova) in exact detail. 😛 Also, my story is very similar to yours, ordered on 9th February, car produced (unfinished) 1st week of September.

Just got a mail from the leasing company. Ordered my company car in first week of March 2021. First I've got an update that car is built and waiting for parts, this was in september (first official delivery time was August 31st). Now we got an update that my car will be built only in January 2022. So I assume that they know nothing about the car... :D Anyway currently I am driving a 2018 Octavia with pretty good options so waiting is not a problem for me, but the lack of information is fustrating.

Thought I'd share my story so far. Ordered Octavia 1.5 e-Tec around middle of August. Comes in Style variant plus couple of extras like Park Assist, electric seats, integrated heater (because Finland) and few other minor things.

Initial estimate was 5-6 months. The dealer showed the document from the importer with the estimates from different models. In the contract the specified timeframe was December 21 - January 22. Even at that time I took it with some grain of salt. My own estimate reading all forums and discussions was around March 22.

Around mid October there was another letter from the dealer quoting the information they recieved from the importer. There they explained the ongoing chip crisis and that it will affect delivery times. No estimates of course, but they mentioned situation was quite fluid.

I wrote back asking if the dealer would have any guesstimates. He quoted another importer document where the eTec Octavias were now estimated 8-10 month delivery timeframe. In terms of guesstimates he mentioned first quarter 2022, most likely March, which was very close to my own guess.

This week I recieved another mail from the dealer who said that the order could be expedited if we were to yield Park Assist 3.0. This came from the importer as well and they gave no indication how much would that speed up the delivery. I appreciated the gesture, but we needed Park Assist for my significant other and I use if quite often as well with our current Astra. Don't mind waiting a bit more, especially that there was no indication what kind of time benefit this brings.

I also noticed that Park Assist 3 was no longer available for order for new cars.

Overall, in quite happy with both communication and transparency from the dealer so far. With this situation they are as much in the dark as most of us are and get all their information from the importer. I'll just stick up with some patience and wait. The overall situation with chips will improve at some point. And there's nothing better on the market for this price anyway.

Same sh!t at SPC Škerjanec... minus that they "dont even know" if the car is already finnished(waiting for parts) or still in the queue!

I still cannot believe that they have such a bad communication with buyers. 😞

Also i don`t believe in the story of missing parts delaying production, since some people that ordered after me already got their cars with much more complicated builds.

It just doesnt make any sense...

And if you follow the Octavias in stock here, most of them are hybrids?!? Maybe the story about Co2 is true

Same situation in Romania. I'm waiting for a poor Octavia Ambition 1.0 (no other special options) ordered in April. No one knows when it will be delivered. This is a total mess.

Just to add my own short experience here:

I placed the order mid-August with an initial maximum waiting time of 35 weeks, which was  increased in September (via an Addendum to the Contract) to 45 weeks. Somewhere in October I dared asking the dealer if there's any news concerning the car; whether it's in the production waiting list, or if it's going to be built and wait afterwards for the missing electronics. The only answer I got was that there's no information at all. Which sounds really strange, since I keep reading plenty of posts of people that are kept informed by their dealers, even on the Romanian VW/Skoda Forum. That's why I think (at least here in Romania) the general policy of Skoda is "Let's not provide any further info until the car is on it's way to the dealership", since most of the updates so far were delay after delay... And only a few lucky clients are still being kept up-to-date via the courtesy of their local representative who is kind (or professional) enough to provide the info.

The only thing I was told is that they will notify me when the car will reach the Romanian Customs. My config is an Octavia 2.0 TDI 150cp DSG Style plus several options and packs.

I have been thinking for some time about a situation where some get a car in three months and some only in 10+ months. We cannot be sure that the dealer has not in the meantime reconfigured our order for a customer who came behind us and reworked his order for us. The chassis number is already obtained when the car starts production, so the dealers can mumble as they wish if someone pays them extra. We don’t actually see a system of orders from agents, we are guided by the data they give us. There is a lot of room for manipulation

@310golfr With situation that it is today, I would probably still order it, because as far as I know it is not any better with other manufacturers and I like Octavia RS look. If I could get some other car that I like sooner from other manufacturer, maybe I would considered it, but as I said I have no problem waiting, main issue for me is lack of communications (they know what chip my car is missing, but they don't want to tell me).

@drnovshek You are correct, I order my car at Porsche Verovškova! :D I guess it is the same for all of us with this dealer. Very bad communication.

@Senaid This is the main issue I have with them, they don't tell you what the missing part are. In our company we ordered Octavia (not RS) in April and we got it in July and also from this forum you can see that some people ordered their car later and got it sooner. What I would expect from dealer is that at least they tell me what part is delaying delivery, but when I asked them about this, I got the answer that nobody can tell me this, which is BS.

the way things are going with delivery times increasing every week, there must come a time when skoda will close the books and take no more orders for any of there cars  😂

maybe they are hoping or expecting a delivery of chips but if that does'nt happen, surely they dont expect buyers to wait 2 years or more  for a car.

even 1 year or so is too long a wait as it stops you going elsewhere during that time if another make of car  or a good 2nd hand car turns up

Why would they change anything when other manufacturers are having the same problems? As long as they do actually give decent estimates. This year for example their estimates got screwed after summer, because things didn't get better, they got worse.

Yess the dealer is to blame for not being honest. I ordered in July and then and there there were allready issues with long waiting times for the most desired cars 'octavia, karoq, ..) but was told that the scala did not have any issue with production and estimate times are MAX 3 months. Then offcourse a phonecall there is no estimate anymore... If he told me it affected all cars then i would have bought a stock one then and there as there were at that moment still enough available...

As chips manufacturing has been going better from octobre on, so hopefully still a quick delivery possible in 2021

I very much doubt any positive news on chips will affect 2021, Audi, Porsche and LRJ are all saying 12 - 18 month delivery, at best, due to shortages and anyone wanting to get one in 2022 should have their order in already....... With absolutely no delivery time given. Every single manufacture has been affected, mostly their own fault as they reduced their chip orders due to covid and their capacity was taken up by other industries such as cameras (for PCs) which use large amounts of chips (the higher the resolution the more chips!) and saw demand surge, when car manufactures went back to increase their orders..... they had already been taken. Chip manufacturing has hardly reduced, but the demand is what is causing the issue from wider industries, which is not tailing off yet.

Where did you read that? I don't think you have to wait over 12 months for a car.

Currently, Skoda has resumed normal production and are once again focusing on producing new vehicles, rather than completing the already built ones (with missing components). Only here and there an unifinished vehicle gets completed in the last 10 days. We'll see if there's another shutdown of production with focus on completing built cars (as was in the last 2 weeks of October) in this year. If not, we're doomed for 2022.
