If the deadline is 5 months away you just know they haven't even looked at the problem yet. 🤣

You can single press for Skoda voice assistant and long press for Android voice assistant - just in case anyone hadn't stumbled across this.

Skoda should just have that on a banner above the entrance 🤬

I have now  been informed by executive.office at Skoda U.K. that mph/kmh is “currently under review” and they are hoping an update will be released by end of March 2022.

Interesting…

I had a fix installed in early September! My car was one of two that had been off the road for months selected to trial the fix.

So your car (which is same model and year as mine) has had the trial ‘fix’ applied.  Has it worked? If so can you say: which of the problems you had previously have now gone and which (if any) problems remain?

@PoloPaul Short answer is Yes.

The primary fault was the KPH/MPH issue (couldn’t display KPH for speed and SatNav that could only display distances in Km) - that has been fixed. There is a long thread dedicated that issue.

Other than that, sometimes the ACC would prevent overtaking; that is now fixed too (or at least I hasn’t re-occurred since and I use ACC a lot).

Since the fix, the car then had the intermittent SOS fault on a few occasions. Was the SOS fault caused by the fix? I don’t know! Prior to the car being taken off the road I had only driven about 1000 miles so it may have been there just not manifest itself. A day at the dealer for a software update fixed the SOS too (so for anyway!).

I’ve done just over 3000 miles since the fix and, yes, there are a few niggles with the s/ware. These include a ‘ghost’ playing with the rear interior lights after dark and auto-reconnection of CarPlay when starting up is inconsistent.

So, after having my car off the road for 20 weeks and the frustrations that come with that, I am really enjoying driving & ownership experience.

Thanks. Good to hear there is progress and that we may all benefit by April 2022. I personally find CarPlay failing to auto-connect frustrating.

At least thats easy to fix - power cycle the head unit.

Please tell me more. Nothing the garage or I have been able to do for 15 months from several software upgrades to factory reset has worked. Interestingly opening any car door establishes reconnection.

Please explain what you mean by ‘Power Cycle’ the head unit?

Thanks

power button on the left side next to the volume slider underneath the screen, press and hold for 30 seconds. Gives a hard reset of the system and truly power cycles it.

Doing it on a weekly basis also stops the SOS bug from rearing its head.

Does that once eliminate the problem once and for all?

Will give it a go and let you know. Shouldn’t be long as it’s auto-connected twice since I last manually reset ‘use CarPlay’ and it currently doesn’t t get much better than that. 👍

No - it's a short term fix, hence having to do it once a week. I suspect given that is what fixes it there is a memory leak somewhere in the software.

Yes, I am used to re-establishing connection by either, opening a car door before I set off✔️ ‘Forgetting Car’ on iPhone CarPlay and reinstating the Bluetooth connection, contacts etc✔️Selecting ‘Smartlink’ on the head unit and selecting my iPhone again ✔️ All of these things work to establish a connection, but it is never persistent and soon fails to connect again. So when I am dashing away for some reason and you end up receiving a call - that you can not take through the infotainment - owing to not auto -connecting - that you end up following one of the above ✔️s (taking your eye off the road) OR pulling over to return the missed call.

Yes, that is helpful, it works and is probably the easiest workaround whilst awaiting the promised software fix. Thanks 👍

From what I've read Golf mk8s are to be recalled for a software update, But I'm a little confused now from this article whether that will also include the more powerful SoC?

Has anyone seen anything to say this will be rolled out to other brands including Octavias, which I assume are basically the same system?

A useful article, Thank you.

From the article it seems VW are moving on to new hardware in order to solve shortcomings in the infotainment similar to that in Skodas. Like you I have heard of no similar move by Skoda  although there are forum members who have been granted new hardware, but has been ‘piecemeal’. Does this strengthen the pressure on Skoda to do more since Octavia is a market competitor to Golf?

If the Golf is requiring an update/replacement then surely the Octavia must be in the same boat?

That's how I see it!

Hi!

Does anyone know what the latest FW version is?

My car just got upgraded from 1788 to 1803.

My Software is  1688 (car built in May 2020, delivered Sept 2020) and the latest SW I’ve seen on this thread  is 1810. Despite several recalls, I have never had a FIrmware update.

Mine changed when they changed the MIB from a 'B' model to an 'F' model. it was 1688, but with the newer MIB it is now 1806. MIB changed to fix the SOS fault.... but different faults came from the change!! It appears some MIBs cant take the newer software ('B' models).

I collected my car 6 days ago and it is on 1804. I have

  1. the ACC issue that wont let me overtake,
  2. The ACC picking random speeds
  3. The car not auto switching from battery to hybrid when on a long journey
  4. sat nav not in MPH,
  5. blind spot detection not working,
  6. lane assistance not working consistently and allowing me to drive on the rumble strip between the hard shoulder and normal driving position
  7. lane assistance repeatedly telling me (by alarm and voice) to get into the middle of the lane when I already was in the correct position
  8. issue with the screen shutting down or going randomly to the screen that asks me what I want to do.

the car is now in the garage for the week, I m not impressed and it is going to be interesting to see what they do.

VAG have lost the plot across many of their brands. It seems like no engineers are involved in design and testing, just schoolkids and accountants. Some of their prestige brands are suffering major engine failures before the first tank of fuel has been used. With one engine type fitted to very prestige brands a major engine repair is being done at PDI, before the cars even get to the buyers.

I've seen all the problems you have, and many more, and encounter them on a daily basis. All of those responsible for these design issues should be locked in a room with justifiably annoyed owners so their feelings can be adequately expressed and frustrations taken out on these idiots.

The reason these problems still persist is because VAG have no idea how to fix them and that is why I put up with them instead of wasting time getting the dealer to make excuses for Skoda when they know full well there is no solution.

Thankfully I don't have any money tied up in mine as it's a company car but I dread to think what the resale value on these will be a few years on.

Hi all. I still have 1803 on mine from back end of last year. Luckily for me when I last got the vrs back from the workshop. Last chance before I gave it back for good by the way. Touch wood it has behaved very well. So the only issues I have now are not remembering the sat nav back settings. And occasionally slow to load up when getting in. But i just use android auto for maps and it's fine. As I love the car to drive. I am just living with it. Shouldn't have to but there will be no fix coming any time soon.... It has done 4 ota updates also in this time but nothing changed as I can notice. Shame all round as my dealer is totally unsupported and it will be my last Skoda for shure which is a shame as I have had 5. Hope you all get some fixes. Oh and by the way my app lock and unlock now work as well.
