Hey Pete

Can you tell me what the difference is between a 6Y1959801 and a 6Q1959801?

And thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all!

Cheers

  • Pete's service is highly recommended!   Our 2007 Roomster suffered from intermittent windows for approx. 2 years. Dealers could not find the problem. It's not easy to diagnose the fault

  • If anyone is being put off the idea of using this service due to the 'downtime' or inconvenience of having to visit the car twice, once to remove the module, once a few days later to refit the repaire

Hello @langhede , that's a good question, but the answer depends on which 6Q1959801 you mean.

The crucial information is contained in the letter after the core 9-character part number.

Older Mk1 Fabias (pre-facelift) used 6Q1959801A in LHD cars, 6Q2959802A in RHD.

Mk2 Fabias, from around 2008, went back to a 6Q... part number, but this time the end letter is F/G/H/J.

The 6Q1959801A and 6Q2959802A have three connectors, in contrast to the two on a 6Y... motor. They are involved in mirror control, the reason for the third connector. They also use two-wire CAN for communication connected to the convenience bus.

The 6Y...motors use LIN, single-wire comms with (only) their passenger side counterpart (and rear motors if fitted). No involvement in mirror control.

The later ones (2008> approx), 6Q....F, etc, use a single 16-way connector. Also LIN-connected only to other window motors. No involvement in mirror control.

I will try to add some photos later today, when I have some more time.

Edit: see below.

Note: the character sequences I've written in brackets relate the last line of the part number labels to the model that they are from/for. If you mismatch these, despite having matched the main VW group part number, correct function isn't guaranteed.

Numbers in orange are the number of ways in each loom connector, not all will have wires in.

I also have some advice on pitfalls to avoid if trying to purchase on the secondhand market, which I will do as a separate post later. Executive summary: beware of sellers who over-generalise applicability, and especially any that seem to have scratched out characters on the part number label.

Thanks Pete

Thanks for the answer!

It would be helpful with a guide👍🏼

I'm looking for a replacement for my 6Y1959801, it's from a 2006 Fabia LHD.

Having a hard time figuring out which models i can use. It's hard to find a exact match... (That doesn't cost the cars worth)

Do you have any suggestions to a alternative replacement?

I will message you later, I think I can help. 🙂

Hi Pete.

I was looking for solutions to my 2007 Roomster front windows that had started to not work.

I fixed the numerous cracks and breakages in the wiring loom, this didn't seem to fix the problem.

I found that if i disconnect the motor then re connect it both the windows work even after turning the ignition on and off. If left for a while they stop working again its as if something goes to sleep and doesn't wake up.

Here is a picture of the driver side winder motor:-

I wonder if you are able to fix this model.

Regards.

Hi Bill, yes I can sort that for you. I'll send you a message with phone/whatsapp number in a sec. 👍

Another shout out to Pete. I took my Roomster into my local garage thinking it was the wiring loom but he said it was the motor and Skoda stopped selling the part last year. Came across this forum and messaged Pete. Quick as a flash, he posted a fixed one to me. Took the door card off using a Youtube video, replaced the motor, worked straightaway, posted the old one back.

Top marks, saved me a load of chew and a load of cash.

Thanks Pete.

After reading Pete's post I made contact and arranged for a replacement to be sent to me.

He posted it yesterday afternoon, 16:22, and it turned up 10:50 this morning!

Will send the faulty one back once swapped out.

Great service.

Many thanks Pete. 👍

I have a 2007 Transporter T5 on which both electric windows suddenly stopped working. I tried the fuse and all obvious things before narrowing it down to the driver’s door motor/module. Looking on eBay there were a few available but they were all about £130! I called my local VW van centre who told me the part 6Y1959801 was now obsolete so they could not supply one! I was surfing around the internet and came across this thread and contacted Breezy_Pete who was staggeringly efficient in his communications and offered to fix it, I sent it off and it was turned around the same day. I cannot recommend Breezy_Pete highly enough and my sincere thanks for getting me out of a hole at a fraction of the cost of a second-hand unit.

I have no connection to him but am just a VERY satisfied customer!

HI @jonny888, I'll be happy to fix that for you.

I'll send you a private message in a sec, with contact info. 👍

Hi Pete, Fabia VRS 2005 here with inoperative front electric windows. Used to be working during the spring/summer months but lately only worked once this year for about 30 minutes!

One other issue we have is that the doors are set to auto lock once moving but the passenger door unlocks itself immediately, probably unconnected but you never know!

Hope you can help.

^ Have just replied to your email @16sam, apologies for the delay.

Hi Pete, do you still fix these? I have recently bought a mk1 fabia and both electric windows do not work. I believe it is because of the drivers window motor. I have bought one on EBay but it didn’t fix it. I am assuming i have just bought a dodgy one.

Hi @Breezy_Pete , I have same problem as @langhede few posts before. Having trable with faulty 6Y1959801 unit from LHD car.

I found only passanger side unit, but motor module cannot be replaced for driver side, because of hardcoded LIN ID address (I guess).

They are available plenty of 6Q1959801 units with CAN bus, but almoust nothing 6Y1959801 unit.

I read on some other forums that modul can be probably repared by replacing capacitor and relay, with checking invalid broken connection of connectors and board.

Please can you send me some hint how to measure and test module for fix it. Thank you.
