Fabia 2 TDI Side lights not working

Featured Replies

Hoping someone can help please. My side lights have stopped working. I have no tail lights and no front side lights. I have changed the fuse (23) but no luck. I am assuming it's not bulbs as for all four to go at same time would be odd?

The interior lights all work except for the Ambient dash board lights.

I have noticed that on the Dash the low beam light does not show when I switch the lights on although headlights do work both dipped and full beam.

Would appreciate any advice. The side lights have to be manually switched on they are not automatic.

Cheers

I can't see fuse 23 being involved, that appears to be for interior lights. Have a look at fuse 17 instead.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, Fuse 23 is listed as interior lights and side lights. When I looked I don't have a fuse 17 which is for DRL:s My model doesn't have drl's the side lights have to be manually switched on?...

Listed where? It isn't in the tables of fuse allocations in Skoda official wiring as far as I can see.

Check a bulb, unless you are certain that they were all working recently.

I edited my previous post to include a question about where you've seen fuse 23 listed as being for side lights. Owners manual? Random internet site?

Sorry didn't see your update. It's listed in handbook.

Looks like an error to me.

In the circuits I'm seeing a feed from a 40 amp fuse in engine bay to light switch, then the sidelight outputs  from there to BCM, then from BCM to the side lights.

No individual fuse related to just side lights, although that one (23) is shown as being for interior lighting.

Baffling to me, unless it's a light switch fault. What happens if you spin the switch dial a few times each way to maybe clean up the contacts a bit?

Try leaving the car with the indicator stalk up or down, see if the front and rear side lights on side you indicate towards stay on after you close door and lock up (Parking light function).

That could prove bulbs and wiring from BCM to them, if both sides work.

Is the rear registration lights (Number plate) lights on when the sidelights are switched on?

  • Author

No the number plate light isn't working, neither is the parking light function. Also the audible buzzer doesn't work when you leave the lights on and open drivers door?

Sorry correction the parking lights do work the number plate doesn't

Try 'working' the light switch a bit to maybe clean contacts.

Thanks I have just tried this, no luck. Wondering how hard it is to remove switch?

May be quite easy, but can't remember the technique just now. Involves pushing it inward (opposite of turning on fogs) and turning one way or the other. Then pulling.

Thanks will give this a try. At least I know it's definitely not bulbs now. Do you think it could be the "Body control module" a garage I called have said over phone without seeing car this is likely the problem? They have told me the dealer will be the only people who can sort it?

Much more likely to be the light switch, I think.

Thanks I will see if I can get an auto electrician to take a look. Appreciate your help

I have removed the light switch itself and inspected the connection visually, everything looks clean and no signs of any corrosion or moisture etc. does anyone know how I can test the switch itself?

If you have a voltmeter, you can check whether it is getting a supply and, more importantly, switching that supply.

I expect there are a few different versions, but the first circuit I'm looking at suggests that power comes in to the sidelight part of the switch on a red wire on pin 15 of the 17-way connector. Outputs to sidelights (BCM actually) in either 'lights on' position are on pins 13 and 14 on grey/blue and grey/red wires, for left and right sides respectively.

If your connector doesn't resemble this arrangement, stick up a photo, but I expect the output wire colours will be common to any variants.

Thanks, when you say switching that supply do you mean changing the pins in the connector?

Thanks for this information. I have ordered a multimeter which should arrive later. Will have a go at identifying what's going on then.

Yes. The supply will come into the switch as Breezy_Pete says. You can confirm it is there, by measuring the voltage between a good earth (outside of the Aux socket will do) and the supply wire. As you turn the switch it should also be present on each of the other connectors depending on the switch position. Remember, you must have one side of the multimeter connected to a good earth and the meter set for DC volts.
