New software available version 1989

Featured Replies

Hi I did the forced reset as that’s what was advised by Skoda . The car is 2021 , previously had issues when got it at 2yrs old but don’t think I was the only one then as lots did. It has been fine since it was resolved until this new one. I’m always sceptical of new updates but the Mrs saw it and the rest is history lol.

Most of the problems are in the screen hardware.

H44 and H47 having the most problems.

From H49 are oke. After software always do a factory reset and make yourself head-user again.

Then the problems must be solved

for problematic H44 and H47 you mean "Hardware", or "Display unit/control panel hardware"?

Display hardware version h44 or H47

Volume sliders restarts when you don't expect it.

Lots off troubles.

From what others have said in this thread it is a factory default reset you need to do via the settings rather than the forced reset with the power button.

Factory reset only by the settings in the menu

The display unit isn't updated by the system software though (It has it's own software which is shown as 2092 in the image posted above) it's the main unit behind the glovebox/dashboard that is updated with the system software updates.

Yeah correct but it is not the software that causes the problems. The main computer is oke. The screen hardware with the bugs is not communicating with the computer in a right way

Skoda did the forced reset and then told me I need to book the car in, so I kicked off a bit as told service guy on phone I’d done that and he said bring it down and we’ll have a look, so they relented and said done a configuration on it ‘prob fobbing me off’ and see how that goes. I had no problems on the 45 min drive home.

Below is what I’m currently running 👍🏻

As repeated multiple times by multiple contributors…….

If you are experiencing issues after the update, and tbh even if you are not, do a factory reset via the settings menu. No guarantees this will sort your issues out but it’s a good starting point and seems to have done the trick for multiple people.

My System Information display looks identical to yours - device part number, h/w, s/w, display unit h/w & s/w and media codec all the same numbers - except for i have a later Nav DB version 25.6.

I was having all the problems with the infotainment hanging, black-screen, rebooting, etc after the OTA update to 1989, and thanks to the guidance on this forum I did the Factory Reset via the settings menu which seems to have fixed it all for me. I did have to set up the user profiles all over again using the 2 keyfobs and entering an S-PIN. The only minor issue thats left is some "take foot off accelerator" warning message that sometimes pops up when approaching roundabouts that I have to figure out how to turn off (ECO Warnings settings, i think - i haven't dug into it yet).

If your infotainment is fixed now, its an easy upgrade for the Nav DB - download the zipfile from the Skoda portal, unzip it to a USB-C stick and just put the stick into one of the slots in the centre console. Don't do anything else - no need to look for "update" options in any menus - the car will just update the Nav DB in its own sweet time (mine usually takes about 30mins). There'll be no messages about updates started or completed. Just leave it alone for an hour or so then check the System Info display again and the Nav DB version should have changed. Thats the only indication you'll get that its worked. Then you can remove the USB stick.

I think I've found a 1989 related change. The dashboard light colour slider (Vehicle/Interior) now works, I'm pretty sure it didn't work before. I don't have ambient lighting.

Also, the option to set different patterns / textures for the screen seems to be gone.

This morning I received OTA notification about 1989 update.

I own 2024 Octavia and its hardware is latest version before facelift, as you can see in the attached photo.

But since many people had problems with this update i hesitate to install it.

Maybe i will wait some time and see what is gonna happen...

I've updated it yesterday to 1989 through OTA. Hadn't had any issues with it as of yet. H61, early 2024 build.

H58 here. Having read the thread and after contemplating for a few days, decided to finally let it install.

"I am feeling lucky" :)

H47, needed factory reset. I had to reenter s-pin, add primary user, and connect mobile devices again. Favourite radio stations didn't need reentering.

I got the OTA notification this morning and now everytime i start her up. Should i just ignore it for now? I’m H49.

I was getting one a couple of weeks ago, ignored it a couple of times and it seemingly went away. Hasn't popped up for ages now

If you're prepared to do a factory reset, there's no reason not to install the update. I think it's slightly quicker and slicker than 1985 and mine has been perfect since the reset.

Did you install it with the engine running?

Hello all ,

As per other updates via USB for this one , the folder has 3 files in it . Can you please let me know if I should use all 3 or just the 2 big folders ? Thank you

If you put all three at root level of your USB stick the system will know what to do when you initiate the update.

If applying updates via USB, it’s not necessary to have the engine running; however, the car must be in a state of ignition. Probably having the engine running is a belt-and-braces step in case the car battery isn’t holding a full charge and could potentially shut off power midway through the update.

OTA updates, after you accept the update, follow the prompts, but basically leave the car to do its thing.

No. Instructions are to leave the car and let it do its thing, engine doesn't need to be running

Hello. I’ve successfully updated my SO4 1.5 TSI to software version 1989 without any problems. After the installation was completed successfully, I immediately performed a factory reset based on your feedback from here. Everything is fine except for the fact that I no longer have Driving Modes and I cannot find it anywhere . I don’t have a physical button, but I know the option used to be available somewhere in the infotainment system. Thanks.
