I was tempted too as they are DVD based Europe discs, but will be VW branded and have the blue/red LED's.

In terms of mapping data, you can get the newer CD (2006) for about

I've been 'offered' a Skoda DVD based one but I'm awaiting further info.

Looking at a Skoda one finishing soon on the bay, has the 2004/2005 disk though so a bit out of date....

Yeah I don't want one if I can't have new maps, seems little point.

I will be purchasing the latest disc in the new year but TBH I have had no problems with the older disc I am currently running thus far.

Interesting news about the Skoda DVD unit as well, I would be interested to know more.

Does anyone know if a TMC disc will work in the standard CD MFD2 without additional hardware?

I will let you know in a few days, I just bought a genuine teleatlas cd with TMC, it's off a renault of all things but it "should" work.

My MFD2 disc is TMC enabled, I believe the hardware is generic to every unit but the CD tells it whether or not to run the TMC program.

It's actually a little simpler than that - for TMC to work it needs what it called a location table, which basically translates the location ID as sent over the radio signal into something meaningful for that SatNav unit (normally a co-ordinate, or a road junction). If your CD/DVD includes this table, it will work - without it, it won't; so the TMC enabled CD doesn't tell the system to run the TMC software, it simply provides the missing middle link to enable it to work. To provide this table (in the UK), the mapping manufacturer needs a license, which is why CDs with the TMC codes cost more money.

For those considering a DVD unit, I believe that although the hardware is equipped with TMC, VAG have yet to release a DVD with UK TMC on it (and neither have Blaupunkt, so you can't use a generic Blaupunkt DVD like you can with the CD version).

The guy is now telling me Skoda don't do a DVD one yet anyway so it would be CD or a VW one.

try SatNav Systems they have just got the TMC 2006 CD's in. £119. Non-TMC for £89

perhaps we should attempt a group buy ?

I've been looking at that site but I was put off by the £119 Ipod connector which is only £99 at the dealers

Does that inply that the CD is going to be cheaper at a "stealer"

Could always ask :)

No but it may be worth shopping around.

OK - need to get the unit installed first - If it's got my house postcode / street then its better then the wifes '05 Toyota disc !

Well

I can confirm the CD version of the MFD2 supports TMC without any problems, I used my 2006 / 2007 TMC enabled UK disk today, dynamic routing enabled and it saved me a world of pain on the M6 heading south.

I can also confirm that I have succesfully copied my original 2006/2007 Nav CD so that I can save my original from damage.

Somewhere within that message lies a subtle hint

Good effort Tony.

I will be in touch soon ;)

Is there an easy way to find out what year and version of disc you have? I have been supplied a "test disc" with my unit but I don't think it is too upto date.

I am also trying to source security screws to keep the tealeafs at bay and that is proving quite difficult but I believe I may have found a source.... More later.

To be honest Ian I wouldn't bother. If the scumbags want it they'll take it, even if they have to smash your dash up. I'd sooner they took it and didn't break anything else

I had lots of problems using copied disks in my MFD, they dont seem to copy properly despite the fact they look as though they have!

I found that out when bits of road were simply 'missing' from the map data, you generaly only find out which bits are 'missing' when you need them most!!

I thought my MFD was faulty at first, but a genuine disk cured the problems.

Mine has been on a copied disk without problems m8, I burnt it at single speed on quality branded media which makes a difference. The Unit was supplied with a copy of 2004 on CD-R and that's been working fine also.

Not saying your wrong, but could be down to burning / media and the fact that some units may be more sensitive than others

Did you get the mail with the manual ok Hedge?

Yes. Nice one.

I know what you mean. I just didn't want the scumbags to have an easy ride. Anyway the security screws are proving hard to find.

PS. Has Steve got one yet?
