I know the front of the MFD2 is biger than the MFD 1, but is the back of the unit still double din size?

I'm just wondering how much work would be required to fit one in a Superb as my MFD1 is looking dated by comparison!

Some of the MFD2's also have a slightly curved front for certain models of car, do the ones you guys have, have a flat or curved front?

How much does the front section stick out from the main unit?

The Superbs dash is fairly easy to take apart and theres a fair amount of space behind, so if I can find anyone who could modify the dash trim around it I might give it a go.

Autopark777 is who I bought mine from too, should be here in a few days, can't wait  .

As for fitting yours Mark, I'm sure if you give Stuart the nod he'll happily sort you out.

This is the seller I got mine from too :D

The 'clips' are approx 2cm from the edges along the bottom (actually just part of the molding) I just used a wide bladed screwdriver below them along with 1 part care n 2 parts brute force n the unit popped out. It's easier to do if you remove the radio 1st so you can push the unit out rather than pull. Easy job, just remember that the hazard warning light switch is on it and the lead isnt that long! The metal bulk head to attach the GPS ariel is just behind the air ducting. Signal pick up from this point is as good as my PDA's Bluetooth unit's when placed on the dash.

Can someone circle where I am supposed to unclip, I originally thought the "lid" came out.... but it actually looks like you remove the whole trim around the air vents and the trim around the lid ?

I have also included a screenshot of the "information screen" of my current GPS signal quality with the GPS Arial placed on the dash, can someone tell me what they get with it mounted under the storage box ?

If you look carefully you can see I have 7 out of 8

Its the whole thing that comes out, vents and all. just watch the wiring to the hazzard switch.

As the storage is box is not made of metal, the number of satalites recieved should be about the same. Maybe better depending on how close you currently have the reciever to the A Pillar as that will be interfering with the signal. You only need a few satalites to triangulate your position. Using tomtom, it still knows where I am with only 3 satalites.

My fuel gauge is kaput most of the time now. Need to get it booked in but work is mad at the mo...

Ray,

I have just had the top box out so apologies as I should of taken some piccies.

From the piccy below you need to push a large flat blade in where the black bits are and gently push down to push the top box up. I used a thumbnail to open it up a little before I pushed the blade in and also wrapped it in masking tape.

After I had the top box out however I struggled to find anywhere to "stick" the magnet to and have it flat. So I popped the dual zone thingy at the front out, filed a circular notch about halfway down it (see other pic) and it works fine and looks neater than when I had it by the passenger A-pillar.

The only problem is then the huge amount of cable on the aerial. I have strapped it to the centre plastic vent pipe as you need to be careful to allow the lid to open and close!

Hope this helps.

The ones we have for the vRS are 1Z0 858 069 L 2AU

the 2AU is the colour code for Aluminium.

When you say "The ones we have" - does that mean it's something in stock wherever you are? Or is it that that is the number listed on the system?

Questions, questions....

Yes Mark I have one here in front of me. I ordered them last week and they were on back order, arrived yesterday.

We was meant as myself, Chris and Steve as I ordered all three.

I have some pics of the antenna in the dash Ian, you just need a grab tab to stick it to the alloy bar.

1. Did you need all three in the end? If not I'll take one off your hands...

2. What's a grab tab? I reckon I'll want one :)

Everyone's help here is *much* appreciated.

No problem at all mate, that's what we all sign up for - to help each other.

Hmm Alloy bar. No wonder the magnet didn't stick.

I'm happy with it as is Stu it looks far better than at the LB meet.

I've updated the page a bit now - still not finished but it shows the images of the GPS antenna in place.

1ZO 858 069C is what's stamped on the back of my silver trim.

I gave the 1ZO 858 069 L 2AU number to another member a while ago and his dealer didn't recognise it!

I get the same amounts of sats as your getting but I placed mine on the metal dash bar behind the air vents as you look at it through the hole, oh and the GPS ariel does stick to the bar as long as you use the bodgers greatest ever tool - Blu Tack!!.

PS Got my unit for

Now added.

PS Got my unit for

Could someone please confirm how much they have paid for the Silver surround for dual zone climate fitted vehicles, I've been quoted

1Z0 858 069 L 2AU has an RRP of 13.32 + VAT.

Mines in and working after a little scare, the navigation disc wouldn't load  .

After a bit of tinkering with Brisky's friend, VAG-Com, all is now tickety boo

Thanks Stu for making the coffee while I did all the hard work ;)

The surround (with number as quoted by Stu) is what I just ordered today from my dealer - £15.something including VAT.

It's a tough job but someone has to do it :P

To be honest I ain't got a clue as thee is no indication with the disc. I would assume however that it would be the same as yours as it came from the same source!.
