Booked mine in for a check so they can look at it. Tech says that it's the first he's heard of the problem... typical. Mine has a milky white line around the entire bottom of the screen about 5mm in height below the wiper blades.

Has anyone tried getting the windscreen replaced due to this problem after the warranty has expired?

I washed my car yesterday and noticed that I had the same infamous white stripe at the bottom of the windscreen. My car is little under 3 years old. Warranty for mechanical parts and labour only covers the first 2 years and the 3rd year of warranty covers the exterior paint etc.

Damn, I'm pretty ****ed about this at the moment.

Mine has it to. Seems this issue is not rare:(

Will go in next few days to service to see what they have to say about that.

Luckily mine warranty is still valid for 3 months:)

My windscreen had the delamination issue (2 year old car) so got it in for warranty replacement today. Upon picking up my car I found that the plastic tube that covers the wiring to the auto dimming mirror hasn't been fitted back correctly so that it sits into the headlining - this exposes the wiring as it exits the headlining. The guy who did the job also has got black sealent onto the edge of the headlining!!!! A bit peeved and wonder whether it was all worth it - I'm also getting paranoid and worried that the windscreen is creaking over rough roads :(. Can't blame the dealer as they got a windscreen place in to do the job and credit to them, I'm back in on Friday afternoon for them to refit the rear mirror and wiring tube - not sure how well they can clean the sealant off the headlining though (although not really visible from driving position). I really like the car but too many niggling flaws which is threatening to cloud my enjoyment!!

I had problems when mine was replaced so it ended up getting replaced again.... and again... and again.

They also replaced any trim items that were damaged. If I remember correctly some of this was at the expense of the fitting company.

If you are not happy with the work complain as skoda/your dealer have paid the company to do a proper job. If they have not done it they should come back and fix it and pay for any parts damaged to be replaced.

Thanks for your comments! I really hope that I don't have to keep going back to have a screen changed over and over again though! You end up being so inconvenienced! I'll see what they do on Friday. The sealant marks on the headlining are not really visible unless you stick your head under the rear view mirror and look upwards so I'll see if they can just clean it off as best they can. I don't think I really fancy having the whole headliner replaced - probably end up introducing other issues! Also found this morning on the way to work that the wipers have been repositioned - park too low and the drivers side wiper doesn't sweep right to the edge of the screen like it did before.

Still, better than having the screen continue to delaminate as the car gets older (try to concole myself).

Check that they refit the parking ticket holder properly as well - another thing that commonly seems to get messed up during windscreen changes.

If a windscreen can't be replaced properly then what chance do we have of getting anything done. It's simple - accept nothing less than perfection and make your dealer aware of this at the time.

Are there any Octy's that have never had this problem ??? I mean is it a forgone conclusion on all cars ??

I agree, the dealer said they couldn't touch the windscreen and it was a windscreen company who did the job but I think the dealer should have inspected the work done. The fitter did a pretty shoddy job when it came to refitting the auto dimming mirror. The aftersales manager told me that it isn't hard to take the mirror off and refit it - I hope so because it looks like this is stuck on good and proper as well so I don't know how neat a job they can do taking it off and back on again.

What I dislike is the fact that due to a manufacturing fault, I have to have my car tinkered with and it's never quite the same again. Well....as long it's not some major engine fault eh? The thing with the delamination is that I'm sure it will only get worse. I had it on an old Citreon AX that I had a few years ago although I didn't realise it was delamination then. It affected the rear hatch screen and was pretty bad - along all th eedges and then some. Never bothered with it cos the car only cost £300 and was a banger. Can't apply the same to a nearly (2 yr) new car tho.

My dealer replaced the sensor to and rear view mirror after the windscreen people damaged it :(

I thought screens were screens. How come this is a Skoda problem, I've never come across it before.

I had a look at my screen and it's starting to appear already.

The car is only 7 and a bit months old.

swmbo got a cracked windscreen before I could claim on the warrenty :( They did a good clean job of replacing the glass but managed to break the parking ticket holder, decided it wasn't worth the hassle of having another screen in to fix it :(

My sensor is gone a bit mad since mine was replaced.

@ kmc what part of the screen is the cracking coming from? The tube holding the sensor cables was also not properly not put on properly, neither was the cover around the sensor, actually 1 clip is broken.

I think it's only the Octy II that it is common on, but it can happen to any laminated glass.

Where are you? if in UK you have a full 3 year or 60K mile warranty period

It's pretty much every car in the VAG range.

The problem lies with the retainer for the scuttle panel and the way it is fitted to the glass, it allows water to sit at the bottom of the screen and eventually delaminate the glass.

My previous Leon did exactly the same thing.
