Question about the Maxidot

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that some people seem to have a Audio and a Navigation in their Maxidot. Our dash is only showing MFD, Phone and Settings. I have the large number for MPH activated. How can I get the dash to show other 2 - Audio and Navi?

I assume you have SII L&K and I'm surprised why you aren't able to see Audio, Nav etc...sounds like Columbus and cluster are not talking to each other. Not sure if there is some sort of bug requiring software fix!

How did you get speedo displayed in mph from kmph? Was that through VCDS?

I have bought a Superb L&K a couple of months ago. The speedometer setting was activated.

You can change the KM/H in the MFD. There is a box that I can untick for an alternative speed unit, but I do not think that gets the Audio and Navigation to display.

I do not have a VCDS although toying with the idea. I have just put the latest version of the Columbus software on but that did not change anything.

I'm assuming this was not a new car purchase and you're in the UK.

You get the large MPH display by switching the vehicle from UK to Australian. This can be done with VCDS or similar. Whilst it could be done at a dealers I doubt they would do it.

It looks suspiciously that the previous owner has played with VCDS and bodged some settings.

If it was purchased privately you have little comeback as the only criminal offences that can be commited are fraud or sale of unroadworthy vehicle (unless sold explicitly as scrap), neither of which apply here.

Look in the VCDS thread to see if there's someone close to you that can check out the settings. VCDS owners MAP

If you purchased it from a dealer then take it back and point out the problem. Dealers have a far greater (civil) liability than private sales.

Sounds like the Columbus has nit been coded to the vehicle properly or it is not selected in the tick boxes of what to display in the Maxidot.

A quick VCDS scan and changes will probably sort it out.

Just an obvious/simple thing to check first. The menus will only show in maxidot if the Columbus is switched on (I.e. not displaying just the time with a black screen).

If you've tried that then yeah... sounds like a coding issue.

As above you will get a navigation display, or if using SD card of music ( assuming these details are on the card ) you get the title and track shown.

On my 2009 Superb, in the Maxidot the Navigation section is only shown if there is active navigation going on - that is a destination has been set on the unit. Selecting this menu will then show the directions on the Maxidot.

The Audio menu will only be displayed if music is being played.

The navigation will show all the time that the stereo is turned on. When a route isn't plotted it shows a compass graphic and the current road name/number that you are on.

  • 1 month later...

Thanks for the replies.

I have been reading across the internet and seen pictures of maxidots WITH Audio and Navigation.
I do not have a compass showing in the top corner at any time no matter whether the radio is on or off. There is not even a Navigation display when I am navigating with the sat nav other than on the Columbus radio itself. And the Audio does not feed into the maxidot.
Thinking back, when we bought the car I am sure I could see a radio station in the dash display, but I am not too sure.
Shortly before I started this thread I managed to drain the battery. For some stupid reason I left the key in the car in the garage and the ignition on drained the battery over night. I do not know whether this is related at all but it has been mentioned in other forums.

Anyway I went to our local Skoda dealer about 4 weeks ago and felt a bit stupid when one of the sales guys came out to look at the maxidot. His reply was, that if it is not displayed the car does not have it - end of story. So I went home.... After all this is a L&K which should have this as standard.
I got my hands on a Vag Can Professional lead and just had a look "round" some of the modules. I have not coded anything but also could not find anything that would suggest a link from radio or sat nav to maxidot.

Which modules would I need to look at to code the Columbus to the Maxidot?

I have attached a picture of our maxidot.

Any replies welcome.

Probably best to post an autoscan so we can see what's installed and how it's currently configured.

As you mentioned you're new to VCP then there is a video here showing how to create an autoscan as it's different to VCDS.

That's maxidot. I reckon the nav and stereo just needs adding to the gateway installation list, but it will need someone who knows about VCP to say how that is done (in VCDS it is as simple as adding ticks to a list in module 19).

The dealer is talking rubbish!!! Wouldn't be the first time I suppose. They often don't know what is/isn't possible. Mine swore blind that I could not fit the Columbus in my car when I ordered the facia trim from them.

As above I would check they're both ticked in the installation list then go into the stereo and check that it is in the right mode (DDP/BAP- should be ticked for BAP in your car) and also check that the right display is chosen. There's an option to choose what kind of dash screen is there- should be high line or something along those lines.

Thank you,

One problem was the BAP not activated.

I have put the VCP on and I set the BAP and have got Audio and Navigation back in the Maxidot display.

But I have also got a DTC with Radio and Navigation that I am missing 4 speakers. However when I do the output tests ALL speakers respond.and the sound is good.

The scan is showing a lot of communication errors. I did the scan with the engine off but only thought of this afterwards.

I have attached the scan file and a couple of screen shot jpgs with the DTCs.post-133229-0-80206800-1444511979_thumb.jpgpost-133229-0-01616300-1444511991_thumb.jpgautoscan_20151010_2135.txt
