1. Latest maps still fit on a 16GB card despite it claiming a 32GB is required. Part of the problem is your Mac is probably adding extra files and taking up space. Some people claim formatting with fat32 and a 4k sector size helps too. I've never heard of anyone hacking the headunit to allow 3rd party SD cards. Some SD cards let you change their CID (like a serial number) to match the Skoda/VW CID and will work, although they can be expensive to buy and you'll need the appropriate skills to change the CID. The easiest solution is to buy a 32GB card, no idea what the dealer price is but eBay is £25-35 and another well respected forum member (Rustynuts) sells them:
2. Thats a huge amount of weights! I had a Vec with a buckled wheel and they could always balance out but it didnt require that much weight. I personally would look to replace the wheel and would check the wheel over in the meantime and make sure there are no hairline cracks.

I've decided I like the 280 that much that mine's getting a black Friday stage 2 upgrade. Life's too short.

Many thanks Dave - Is it possible that we could use this group to bind together to exert maximum pressure on Skoda to prioritise a fix for this fault. I suggest it can't really be such a big deal if there are cars previously delivered without the fault. Also it appears to have been identified as early as May this year from the news item posted here earlier. https://www.dpa-international.com/topic/worst-golf-launch-ever-everything-wrong-vw-new-golf-8-urn%3Anewsml%3Adpa.com%3A20090101%3A200528-99-223068 Ideas please, if there are enough of us we ought to build some momentum.
5. Pretty much the same here. The bigger Marktkauf supermarkets usually have a fuel station. Raffeissen have them too (where I usually go as it's the cheapest usually). And SB have them usually too (a wholesalers). But it's very different to the UK in that regard. In the UK all the major supermarkets have their own station.
6. Just a quick update, I had the CAN-gateway flashed and parametrised today so it now reports as: Address 19: CAN Gateway (J533) Labels:| 3Q0-907-530-V1.clb Part No SW: 3Q0 907 530 Q HW: 3Q0 907 530 C Component: GW MQB High 436 4344 After changing "Ambiente_Fahrprofil_Individual" back to 7, it verks! When in "automatic", the "individual driving mode" colour correctly matches the last one chosen via the "manual" selection. Happy days! It also seems to remember the last driving mode which is exactly what I was hoping for, win for player
7. Well, it all depends on your location. I am aware because I was told by @SashaGracethat there is a mode that you can enable to "improve" the HVAC system to make it super-cold. Depending on where your car is based, it could be this that is enabled. Other things; do you have the Aux-Heater option and if so, is it switched in. Do you also have Air-Care switched in too. Try pressing the Menu button for the HVAC system and go to settings.
8. The wires are likely to do the same function just different plug ends. Do a bit of homework and make an adapter that links the cables.
9. The Octupus Agile smart tariff is actually just trying to encourage consumer usage pattern to avoid peak times and use during off-peak. Batteries are used to balance the grid at 50Hz examples can be seen here: https://www.energy-storage.news/news/undeniable-success-south-australias-129mwh-tesla-battery
Using fast frequency response (FFR) services, HPR was able to stabilise grid frequency to within the accepted range of 0.15Hz either side of 50Hz. In addition to frequency regulation, the system also participates in AEMO and ElectraNet’s System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS), which offers protection against the loss of the locally-sited Heywood Interconnector if multiple generators fail. ....... It is required to discharge up to 100MW in under 150ms.
(Hydro storage not have started turning within 150ms. But after that burst, a more sustainable source is needed, like hydro storage) So yes, a good mix is needed. No single right answer. But one thing is for sure, EV and batteries are important part of overall future energy.
10. Pumped Hydro is not slow to react. It powers the National Grid as kettles go on during TV adverts or at the End of Strictly.
11. Oil and gas will be getting brought to the surface of the earth or sea for a long time or extracted from the earth / oil sands etc. But then it will not just get burned as road fuels or to warm homes. As to filling stations many get fuel from Bunkered Fuel yards and the likes, and Diesel & Gasoline is produced as part of the Petrochemical Refining process and petrochemicals are going to still be getting produced. As to Flaring off, that is a rather serious issue to those near and not so near where it is happening, but then the Governments have let the industry get away with this and surely as China goes collecting Space Rocks the Oil & Gas sectors can get a move on with some new technology.
12. I won't live long enough to see that; and TBH it's plenty of time to get used to the idea and adapt if you are young enough.
13. So an update on the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range plus experience. Several software updates later they have fixed some niggles, broken a few things along the way and then fixed the things they broke. The fix they applied was (among lots of minor things) to finally make spotify sort music in alphabetical order so you can find it and they added playlist functionality, standard stuff on your phone but not in a Tesla until now. Unfortunately the update also disabled all audio output, radio, USB music, streaming you name it none of them worked. That lasted a week until they rushed out another patch. This is the joy of over the air updates. The other thing to report is my first proper long distance trip, Edinburgh to Northampton and back, around 700 miles. And this was easily done. The car is very efficient, much more so than my Nissan Leaf ever was. I set off around 3pm, stopped 2 hours later for some food at Tebay. The car was around 35% charged when I arrived. I plugged in and headed in to the services for food and by the time I had garbbed a delicious lasagna the car was back to 80% and I headed off. By the time I got to Birmingham I was desperate for the loo so again I stopped at a service area with a tesla charger and while I emptied my tank the car refilled itself. I spent 10 minutes watching some netflix wjile it finished and then headed to Northampton. There was a charger at my hotel in Northampton so I refuelled back to around 70% before hitting the sack. The next day there was a charger at our Northampton office so the car refuelled to 90% while I was at work. That afternoon I headed North again. After a couple of hours I had to stop for the loo at Charnock Richard so I put some juice into the car while I was at the loo and picking up a coffee. Then it was back to Tebay, this time for steak pie and chips while the car refuelled just enough to get me back home. So refuelling wise and range wise it was dead easy. In both directions the driver had to stop before the car had to. Bladder range / fatigue range is shorter (in my case at least) than this shortest range tesla. But what about the famed Tesla auto pilot? It has been very erratic in use, I've had quite a few cases where it tries to auto steer "for safety" and veer into the outside lane so for thsi trip I ojnly used adaptive cruise. Tesla owners often report a phenomenon known as phantom braking, typically this is described as the car hesitating as it overtakes trucks, or gets spoked by bridge shadows. I experienced nothing worse than a gentle slowing down as I passed trucks, easily overriden by pressing the accelarator. Bu then it got dark. Once night fell the car freaked out for no obvious reason - on 6 separate occasions it jammed the brakes on, a full on emergency stop would have happened if I'd not stamped on the power. Not a very comfortable driving experience so I switched off cruise and just drove manually. I raised this as a fault with tesla but after they scanned the car they said thwere was nothing wrong and this behaviour is a "feature" of the current software and they say it will get better as they develop it over time. So much as with my previous report, it's a bafflimg mix of the brilliant (range, power and efficiency) and the downright lousy (auto headlights and wipers seem to have a mind of their own and the cruise control is quite possibly possessed). One of these days they will have it up to the standard of my old 2015 Octavia in terms of the tech, but as before there is still no way I would go back to a fossil fuelled car.

The important Real World Figure that needs showing is the max or min you might get with 100kg sat in every seat with a belt and 4 or 5 23kg cases in the boot / frunk. Then give the figures with just a 100kg driver and a flask and munchies.
15. Been quite some time since I did a detailed update on my wife's Moon White Karoq which we bought on 26th January 2018. The original Braga 18" alloys and Michelin Primacy 3 tyres (215/50R18 front wheel drive size) are sitting in our garage after 27,000 miles on the car. It is currently fitted with the 19" Superb Vega alloys which are 1" wider at 8" and have Bridgestone S001 Performance tyres in 235/40R19 dimension. These have increased fuel consumption by around 10% but I have been impressed by the increased grip in corners and very little extra tyre roar and still excellent ride comfort. Starting the year after 23 months ownership the car had done 22,500 miles and 11 months later it has now covered 28,336 miles. The main reason for the reduction is that my wife like so many now works from home so only uses it for home visits and when helping her service users with shopping. She is a Social Worker dealing with Adults With Learning Difficulties. The good news for us is that the Council pay a generous mileage expenses when she uses the car for work so she usually gets more for her mileage than the monthly fill up requires. This year I have put 572.80 litres of regular unleaded at a total cost of £623.97 and the car has covered 5,795 miles (126 gallons exactly) which works out at an average of 45.99mpg which is not too far from the indicated 46.4mpg Long Term figure in the maxidot onboard computer. We have had no problems this year following 2 issues last year which were resolved around the car's only service so far at 18,700 miles in October 2019. They were just to recap the long awaited software update which has improved the cold engine skippy nature of the car from new which seems to be low torque related and possibly connected to the alternator. It has not completely gone but is much more driveable than before. Another issue which many early KESSY equipped Karoq's suffer from was the failure of both key fobs in quick succession after 21 months which was diagnosed eventually to a batch of faulty key fobs which were both replaced under warranty thankfully. The second service (variable service plan) is not due until October 2021 when the brake fluid will be changed for the first time. The first MOT is due in just 2 months time and the original wipers (all 3 of them) are still in excellent condition and they will also be replaced at the second service which should be at around 35,000 miles. The gearbox has been getting better with age and is now very slick even comparing to the 6 speed manual on my previous Octavia Vrs245. Compared to my current 150PS diesel 2020 Superb DSG the Karoq feels like a sports car owing to it's relatively light 1,360kg kerbweight. The Superb is around 1,500kg and takes about 10 seconds to get to 60mph (but compensates with 66mpg average so far) whereas the Karoq does the sprint in around 8.5 seconds. Overall we are very pleased with the car and it replaced a top of the range Skoda Rapid SE Sport 1.2TSi 6 speed manual which also averaged around 46mpg over 28,500 miles and 3 years between 2015 and 2018. We find the high standard spec of the SEL and the practical 3 rear vario flex seats which can fold up cinema style or can be removed completely so if you need to load long or bulky items (I used the Karoq to collect laminate flooring boards for our kitchen, lounge and master bedroom) it is as practical as the Roomster or Yeti were before it. We paid £23,500 including metallic paint and the RRP is now around £27,500 before discounts. We like this car so much we plan to keep it for 10 years and then sell it when we retire and move to a sunnier climate somewhere.
16. God no! Don't use molegrips! If you are VERY careful you could start the movement of the bulb holder by pushing gently with a long thin screwdriver.
17. I just want it to be on or off. I believe the supply is a 0.5mm2 cable so the nozzle heater must be a low wattage. It would be on when the air was dry and cold, which is when wind chill can cause a wet nozzle to freeze. I have one arriving soon and will measure the current draw when connected to a 13V supply.
18. Thanks Roottoot! I had a search for rings, but that's exactly the thread I was looking for.

20. So the range is up to 55 km in the WLTP cycle. Dead handy if you use the car like in the WLTP cycle. Get the car off the road and in the lab.
21. The battery’s energy capacity will go up and down with temperatures. Colder temperatures will have a lower capacity.
22. All plugs, terminals etc. are the same in Polo and Skoda loom. you just need to extend 2x2.5mm power cables. One to fuse board and one drom trailer plug to the module box. Like I said - I paid 10quid for brand new loom with module, so it would be rude not to try it
23. I thought that Esso had changed their higher octane offering to 99 or a minimum of 99, I've still got to check/try that out, but I'm sure that I read that somewhere.
24. Hi M, from what i remember, yes your right, its a twist. I remember moving the fuel filter to do the side light, but dont remember doing that for other bulbs. I think after looking on YouTube and it saying the same as the manual i just tried harder knowing it was right. Not saying your not trying.
25. Air care should be left on....it properly filters the air; expecially on recirculation. I never got the settings for "super-cool" HVAC from @SashaGrace, but if you look elsewhere in the forum, they will be there (try in the VCDS area).

Golf 8 deliveries were delayed several months after the press release to enable VW to sort out "software problems" - it sounds like they didn't delay long enough? Worst Golf launch ever?
27. Hello Malcolm (and Mrs Malcolm) Gaz
28. Chris gets to visit them as well.
29. No, I disagree, your first line sums up the problem with Briskoda....... The OP specifically asked if the warranty would be affected, I believe I answered his question, albeit from my 'armchair'......... I agree it won't necessarily void any warranty but it'll make life difficult - in these progressive days of 'no service book', how's the OP going to get his first service details loaded into the VAG group service record computer - short answer is 'he won't' and thus any service record check/enquiry being made later down the line will show his vehicle as having an incomplete history.

What petrol engine is it? There are quite a few different ones. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Škoda_Fabia#Engines_2 Which numbers in the emissions test are causing the problem, CO, lambda or HCs, or more than one of those? Can you post a photo of the emissions test sheet? Does the emissions light show briefly when you turn on the ignition, before starting the engine? (A previous owner may have obscured it to cover up a fault).
31. There are, yes. For example, I've no idea who the chart-topping artists are, who is who on Neighbours and Eastenders, or who won X Factor and Strictly. Most of the 'I'm A Celebrity' types are complete unknowns to me, and that's where I'd have put VBH. I may have seen her mentioned here (Search returned very few results), but still wouldn't have associated the name with anyone 'big' in the motoring world... and that was my point - Surely a campaign like this would want names that everyone immediately recognises, even if they don't follow the thing for which they're famous... like Ian Botham. It may be that VBH genuinely believes in all this, in which case it's up to her what she puts her name and reputation to, though.

You are *always* have to deal with contention ratios. It really depends on the service provider. Remember that Openreach (a wholey owned subsidary of BT) is the provider of the infrastructure that your service will go over. The contention will all depend on your *service* provider e.g. Virgin Media or SKY or BT Wholesale themselves. It also depends on whether your service provider has a PoP (Point of Presence) in an exchange or sub-exchange and this will determine whether a solution will be provided as "on-net" or "off-net". On-Net means that a service provider has a PoP in a local DSLAM or Exchange and will carry their service back to their data centre via their own dedicated link (usually dark-fibre) or whether it is Off-Net - which means that the service provider will carry their service on a VPN across BT's MPLS backbone. You've got to think fibre to the premise as being more akin to a network switch - there is contention, but the ratio will be lower that FTTP or ADSL services.

Yes quite agree this issue must have existed at concept and it is pretty disgusting that they haven't prioritised a fix for it and leave us all without support. Interestingly I've seen a comment somewhere that there are similar issues on the Golf 8 which presumably is running with the same Infotainment application. I'll try my dealership again today to try to progress it and keep you updated.
35. There will be two narrow tubes running to the exhaust, one just before the DPF and one just after it, these tubes will be attached to the sensor itself which is usually on a bracket nearby, it will be hard to see and may be hidden by heatshielding but it's down the back of the engine there somewhere.
36. We'll need oil and gas for a long time yet. For plastics, pharmaceuticals, roadbuilding as well as generating all that 'leccy for cars. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-53238512 Reasonable little article. H2 for heavy vehicles and batteries for cars
37. Yes agreed about the maps. Skoda always said that the 16G card was going to struggle with the ECE1 maps at some point. I've manage to put the 20/21 maps onto a 16G card for my MIB2.5 Amunsden for my VRS, but I took the plunge and got a 32G card for my Scout middle of this year.....everything from Iceland to Russia....cool...
38. In all fairness, the various individual apps that Skoda were pushing out was a complete mess, so this is high-time. I don't know why they never put it all into Skoda Connect from day one.
39. Open your car windows my Monte makes a lovely growl, but I would not want to hear it all the time.
40. Righty then. Blacked-out my headlights from the inside just like a Monte Carlo version. Placed all the LED's and the car looks way better imo. Thats it for now, rear axle will be done soon I hope...
41. 1 point
I always take WLTP rating to be absolute maximum, EPA to be higher typical, 80% of EPA to be typical minimum. I recall the Chevy Bolt dash display shows the normal range guess-o-meter with a min and max figure. I haven't seen any other cars do that. But I prefer Tesla's typical range readout, calculating based on last few miles of driving makes no sense.
42. It looks like you have the Skoda DENOM alloy rims 7Jx17 ET49 OEM part number 5E0601025D See item 1 in the link below to a Skoda online parts catalogue: http://www.oemepc.com/skoda/part_single/catalog/sk/markt/CZ/modell/OCT/year/2016/drive_standart/753/hg_ug/601/subcategory/601070/part_id/2543668/lang/e If you look at the back of one of your alloy rims you will see this OEM part number cast into it, ie. 5E0601025D If you want to search for a replacement alloy rim, then using the OEM number is a good way to search. Here's a new replacement on skoda-parts.com https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/5e0601025d8z8-aluminium-disc-17-denom-skoda-36241.html It's possible 225/50R17 could be used instead of the standard 225/45R17 to reduce the risk of further pothole damage. However, you would have to change all four tyres to this size and possibly the spare. 225/50R17 is a more expensive tyre size than 225/45R17. 225/50R17 is used on the Octavia MK3 Scout on 7Jx17 ET45 rims.
43. Politicians, peers and many have Classic Cars as cherished possessions and investments, they are not going to spoil what the UK has with Classic vehicles free of VED or MOTs. @Aspman Scotland has Hydro power to produce electricity, and pumped storage using hydro as does Wales and elsewhere. Hydrogen is stored quite well to run the bus fleet, bin lorries etc in Aberdeen and Fife and on the Islands and powering ferries. ^^^^ From 2017.

Afaik the Scout has the 272’s as it has IRS. Only the torsion beam cars have the 253’s and the vRS 245 has the 310’s. Mine has 310’s but I fitted them lol. Manual wind back for piston is fine as there is no EPB.
45. British police cars can be found hiding behind hedgerows.
46. Yeah welcome to the rip off republic...... ! 1700 in NOx is a tight kick in the h**e and for what ? To fill the coffers of a corrupt regime ... We aren't allowed to drive what we want and what we like. Makes me want to scream There are loads of nice cars in the UK with proper specs, proper service history and the right money but we just get screwed when we try to import them here. We are left with total and utter piles of Done Deal junk with inter-galactic miles and abused every one of them. The like of that vRS just does not exist here - Its Paddy keep driving and dont service till it stops. My tax is €673 but im going to keep the car on the road for as long as I possibly can as a two finger salute to the establishment ! Nice to see another Briskodian in Ireland !!
47. It should be there in Driving Data. Find your Average MPG - then it is should be three/four UP on the scrolling wheel (right hand scroll). My Scout is an MY19 - and has the AdBlue remaining miles.
48. 2018 Skoda VRS in Rallye Green. It's a manual & diesel.

If you look at the bonnet a couple of these are usually screwed into it at the front, one on each corner. Not entirely sure it’s purpose but it adjusts the height of the bonnet when shut and acts like a cushion of sorts I expect. The screw thread at one end allows it to be screwed into the holes and height adjusted
