  3. Father Crimbo brought me Ecto 1 bless him !
  4. I find that the mirror-heating facility is good for keeping the door mirrors clear of distracting rain drops/splashes.
  5. It would have been a good idea to sort out all the software bugs in the ID.3 first - there was a big patch this month and another possibly even bigger one scheduled for February. Personally I wouldn't consider ANY car with as many software issues as the ID.3 has at the moment - it makes the problems with the Golf 8 and the Octavia IV look very minor.

I'd have thought the colour of the dog was just genentics and so he wouldn't have much choice
  7. Nearside no. If you do the offside one, yes.
  8. Hope you can make the best of it under the circumstances wherever you are .... I'll be building Lego
  9. No, that's just the cut of my trousers 😮
  10. The threads are not Acme threads, but ordinary bolt threads. These literally destroy themselves with very little use. You really need an Acme thread for a spring compressor. This is the same type of thread that they use on bench vices, so very strong and long lasting. I've got these two coil spring compressors. The more expensive one, has plastic cups which stops the paint on the coil springs being chipped off. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/draper-n144-250mm-pair-coil-spring-compressors/ https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-14173-Coil-Spring-Comssors/dp/B0001K9Q2W/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=draper+coil+spring+compressor&qid=1608912048&sr=8-1 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1000kg-Macpherson-Strut-Coil-Spring-Compressor-Dumper-Extractor-Yolk-Protector-/263132309969?hash=item3d43e869d1 If you're using a spring compressor that might take the paint off, it might be worth cutting up an old bicycle/motorcycle inner tube to size and wrapping that round the coil spring to stop the paint being chipped off and exposing bare metal.
  11. Go for it, the safety police will be along shortly to tell you off but Hilka stuff is OK.
  12. Thank you. That answers my question very well. I will likely put up with it for a while until I either get used to it, or buy a later model...
  13. Love this 911 and on the A93 which is a perfect road for it or the perfect car for the road.. (Route for Blairgowrie / Braemar passing through the Glenshee Ski centre.) What a load of guff really. You can drive the A93 when the road is dry in any car with not much power and FWD or RWD or AWD and tyres that are not bald and get around the bends (60 mph NSL & maybe a bit more) as quick as the 911 is going in the video while staying on your own side of the road. On the twisty bits you need to be ready for sheep, photographers, walkers, cyclists or other road users on your side of the road while wondering about, talking, looking or making videos.
  14. The Skoda Citigo IV that was trailed for long enough and is now discontinued but is still available around the UK should have had the charging cables, charging available and software and software updates sorted out before delivery and quickly after the 'issues' reared their heads. 'Simply Clever' is a term that seems lost on Skoda. They need not only to be Simply Clever, they need to be a bit quicker dealing with issues and have the parent company deal with them as well. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/486062-citigoe-iv-ambition-se-charging-at-72kwhr http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/483719-any-citigo-e-iv-users

  18. He he... Been building Lego all December as I decided to do a DIY Lego advent calendar for my girls... So lots of little models have been created and built! Not sure much will get done tomorrow though...
  19. The DSG service main cost is generally the parts. The oil and filter are not cheap. The labour cost is minimal at half an hour or something like that. Basically there's not much room for massive savings regardless of where you choose to go. I'd strongly recommend a coolant pump replacement with the timing belt as they are a known issue. Whether you choose a dealer or not ideally you want to use genuine parts, genuine coolant, make sure the correct associated parts are replaced and the cooling system is bled correctly otherwise the 2 year parts warranty will be pointless and any claim likely rejected should you have an issue down the line. Avoid these aftermarket pumps that do away with the flow regulation sleeve. I've only come across one up to yet and it only lasted a month. The pumps are mechanically driven off the belt but they have an electronically operated sleeve.
  20. There I was having a lovely day when you had to use the C word.
  21. My apologies, it does say 2.0TSI in your last message, typo, worse things happen at sea. With it being a diesel there is no requirement for plugs (only replace them when they fail), it does have a fuel filter that I'd aim to replace at 40k miles. Cam belt is due at 5 years or 80k + depending on engine, that's engine code and build time specific. Water pump is best replaced along with it unless it fails beforehand. Diesel engines can be set to a variable regime whereby the time and distance has a maximum value of 18700 miles or 2 years. The vehicle will work out and count down to when it deams the service should be carried out. Yes you'll have the DQ381 transmission which VWG would have you believe will suffer no issues with the same oil slushing around for 80k, personally again I'd recommend it's changed at half that to prevent issues down the line.
  22. Had a little trip down to Donington Park with Darkside last week to check out their new project cars and go out on track with them On the drive back at low speed braking heard a grinding noise from the back with low speed braking turns out the pads and discs now needed a change..... Less than a year and 15k miles on these. Also a little christmas eve drive out with a friend in his ibiza cupra

The current problem with EV charging is that the good fast chargers are not on existing trunk road service stations. Ecotricity Electric Highway was funded by Nissan-Renault back in 2014-ish time, it sports slow 50kW chargers for Chademo (leaf) and type 2 (Zoe). Later CCS was added to support other cars but it's known to be buggy. Ecotricity seems to have some sort of exclusivity agreement. So we don't see any other more reliable providers at these critical locations.
  24. I'd like to think that a great deal of research was conducted over the entire span of the country to find an average price to charge for service work throughout the dealer network 🤷🏼‍♂️ Obviously parts are supplied at a preferential rate to dealers and they are typically bound by the conditions of the fixed price servicing scheme should they sign up to it. The information they give on their own UK based website doesn't correlate with what their service sheets populate when they're printed off from their own internal dealer portal 🙄 That said we have adapted what we do and how we do it. We offer everything on the fixed price scheme and extras. For instance the filter basket cleaning on a haldex oil change - not part of the actual operation according to the manual but we will carry out the task for an additional small fee to cover the extra labour and parts cost of the seals. Regarding the actual service schedule of oil change then oil change and inspection at pretty much every dealership you have a free vehicle health check carried out with any job that has a labour line created. Even if you only book in for an oil change service your vehicle will most likely be subjected to some form of tyre, brake and suspension check over with a report provided thereafter.
  25. 185/65R15 195/55R16 205/45R17 These three tyre sizes all have about the same outside diameter. 185/65R15 are the most comfortable size and the least expensive size. 205/45R17 are the least comfortable size and the most expensive size. However, 195/55R16 could be a good option for the Fabia MK2 VRS as their front discs are about 312mm. Besides, it's often best to purchase winter tyres in the summer when the demand isn't so high.
  26. Our newly opened Audi dealer is £60 an hour plus VAT dearer than we are and charges double what we do for service work, for the same job 🤯
  27. Thanks to all for your responses. Nice to see how caring the Skoka community is and a special thanks to the post that actually answered the question regarding the charcoal filter. Now to the mouse that has won so many hearts...Given the time of year, goodwill etc, I stuffed a couple of blobs of cotton wool soaked in peppermint into the nest/front wing and some bleach (nowhere near the paintwork-in a container), both of which, Im led to believe mice find unbearable. I also taped up the bits hes been nibbling and no apparent activity since, so hopefully hes moved out. If hes moved into my wifes car, you will ned to check the Hyundai forum for further updates. Have a good Christmas, Kim John Son permitting...

Personally, I'd highly recommend OBDeleven with the pro license. I use it professionally on a daily basis, dead user friendly, it cost's less than £100, works on your phone or tablet, will do pretty much everything you need it to and more and there are no restrictions for use. I had VCDS for over 10 years then when the V2 dongle came along with a £500 price tag I defected and I've never looked back.
  29. Empty house nearby had rat nest in garden, shot 9 at the bottom of our garden in 2 days. Professional ratman got the rest with traps and poison. Good target practice as I only shoot if I can get a head shot so quick kill, a lot quicker and more humane than poison I suspect.
  30. Yup. Being rural, we're always alert for the next wave. Nevertheless, I'm an old (very) softie, and I hate having to kill.

  32. Pedal box is great and I run one too, but this sounds definitely like a DSG map thing. I had two DSG cars mapped from local tuners before the DQ381 on this 3rd DSG car, in none of them I felt the DSG remap offered any noticeable difference in driveability and shifting behaviour despite having (allegedly) increased clutch pressures and reduced shift times. On the DQ381, I thought I was going to waste my money again but I decided to find out if TVS are rightfully considered top DSG experts or not. As I had written in my review, this was the first time I realized considerable improvement after a DSG map, in the aspect that really mattered to me (forget 20ms off in shift times - who notices??): driveability. It totally transformed the car. It improved D mode which was good, but more importantly it made S mode the best mode in the car, and one that I could easily drive in the whole day even for the most dull journeys. The car picks up my intentions much more accurately now depending on how hard or steep i press the pedal, it can up-shift almost as early as D mode when I barely touch the throttle, it will stay in gear if I am more decisive and it will downshift one or two if I smash it. It just works and makes the whole experience so much better as these cars feel easily 100-150 down on bhp when driven in D mode so the fact you can use S all the time feels as if it had another ECU remap. In fact, most tuners' DSG maps are nothing special in terms of driveability (some are even worse than stock - even some of big tuning names) from what I have seen, so it's not un-common at all. It's really very few tuners who offer all-round DSG improvement.
  33. I suspect the 140kW/190PS Superb MK3 has 340mm diameter front discs, in which case 16" wheels won't fit. See below at the wheel-size.com entry for this model. Notice that 16" wheels aren't listed as an option. https://www.wheel-size.com/size/skoda/superb/2016/ Skoda Superb 2016 2.0TDi – Generation: 3V [2015 .. 2019] [EUDM] – Power: 188 hp | 140 kW | 190 PS – Engine: DDAA, I4, Diesel – Options: SE L, Sportline, Ambition, Style, L&K, Executive – Center Bore: 57.1 mm – Wheel Fasteners: Lug bolts – Torque: 140 Nm – Thread Size: M14 x 1.5 – Trim Production: [2015 .. 2019] Tire Rim PCD 215/55ZR17 94W 7Jx17 ET40 5x112 2.3 / 2.1 235/45ZR18 94W 8Jx18 ET44 5x112 2.4 / 2.2 235/40ZR19 96W 8Jx19 ET44 5x112 2.4 235/35ZR20 95Y 8Jx20 ET40 5x112 2.6 / 2.4
  34. No - they've had 3 tries now with no effect. I have raised the matter with Skoda UK and got the following reply: Dear Thank you for your email. I apologise that this has seemingly not resolved the charging issue for you. I will contact my colleague who has specialised in this recall to find out why this may be before coming back to you with a response. Thank you for your patience with regards to this matter.
