  1. I'm humbled by the kindness of strangers. I posted on Sunday about having a mirror indicator smashed. @varaderoguy offered me a pair of used oem ones for postage. It's now Wednesday and I've got a working mirror. This is what forums should be about!
  2. View from the top of Wainright No. 128 IIlgill Head. Probably would have been a bit more scenic if not for the clouds.
  3. As some of you may have read in another thread, the seats weren't quite right. The driver's seat had a small plastic part missing that allowed the seat to rock back by about 5mm. It wasn't apparent until I fitted the seats and seeing as it was a 560 mile round trip to get them I wasn't going to bother the seller about it. Initially I thought it was missing two pieces, in the end it was just one, the other was hidden behind a lot of grease and muck in the mechanism. After a bit of help from Mr Evil I tracked down the part number and called our local VW garage. The chap there is really good at helping me source parts for the Octavia and he managed to get hold of the clip within a day. I decided to fit the part as I was getting annoyed by the movement in the seat . First thing was to cut off the bolt that prevents the mechanism from sliding off the front of the guide rails. I then slid the mechanism off the rails whilst holding the lever out to allow you to slide the seat back and forth. The clip was installed with a dab of copper grease and then the mechanism went back on quite easily. Luckily I'd ordered the right part and it went on perfectly. I then had to replace the bolt I'd had to cut off and used my tin of 'things that might come in handy one day' to find a suitable replacement. I'll cut it down to length when/if I get round to wiring up the heated seats. The seat works perfectly, doesn't rock about and I can get on with enjoying the comfort of a nice set or Recaros. So far they seem a lot nicer than the stock seats and even the kids have said that the rears are way more comfy so all's well. Also, I'm impressed that it only took £1.92 to fix what was a really annoying fault.

So 10 months after placing my order I’ve finally got an update. The car is in some port in Europe waiting to be shipped. I think he said it’s hate 38? Apparently my car is the oldest one on the dealers order sheet. Realistically what timescale am I looking at for it to arrive in the UK?
  5. Oh Windows XP how i've missed you. VCDS Lite ready and waiting for the cable to arrive. Hopefully we'll have an answer to this one by the end of the week.
  6. Sadly - I not heard that one; we really need a scan of the car....See this link for list of Skoda VCDS owners:
  7. Is yours an L&K with a rear door module? Your connector below the window motor looks the same as in the previously posted photo that shows the L&K as an example. It was suggested in that post that there’s a way to connect the light directly to the module and code it. This business of connecting it to other wires is for folk that don’t have that module.
  8. The dealers said that they had had this problem just once before. They fixed the C.C. in 30 minutes. BTW the showroom was almost empty of both people and cars.
  9. Some infotainment systems are a mess and potentially dangerous, says Mike Rutherford of Auto Express So how/why were they rolled out 'The latest infotainment systems in some VWs aren’t fit for purpose' | Auto Express
  10. Well simple really. Apart from leaving your Mother at home..... Put the two dogs into kennels. Problem now solved. 😏 Enjoy your holiday. Carlo has now left the country.
  11. Next mod, rear strut brace. Arrived Saturday gone by but i've only gotten around to test fitting it and painting it this evening. Test fitted it in the mk1 first to see how it fits. Then a few coats of primer before being given 3 coats of Peugeot Cossack Grey, looks pretty good now. Next day i'll get the boot trims off and fit the brace in place. Doubt it'll make a world of difference, but if it stops a few of the creaks in the car i'll be happy. What has made a world of difference to my car atleast was adjusting the linkages. Nearly a week later and I still can't get over how much smoother it is changing gears now.
  12. It just runs to an outlet to ground in the wheel arch so the best bet is to poke some strimmer wire down it

Sounds like a latch failure then, if you look from the inside of the boot where it would lock, you’ll see a small hole with a yellow piece inside, move that yellow piece to unlock
  14. 2 years is common. AF says longer, I have had 3 years of NCB sitting unused while covered on a Motability car but not for a long time since.

I have purchased one of the harnesses from Mountain Dog in red, to match the car obviously. I shall report back as to how Freddie and myself get on with it.
  16. 1 point
Is there any vw/Skoda stamp on it or part number? if not; it’s probably not part of your car and just rolled under there from something else
  17. @Dappernut What Tyre Company? Tyre and Exhaust Centre fitters might well not want to remove a tyre and clean it out and do a repair but that does not mean you can not clean it out.
  18. Updated mine to 2022 quickly and with no problems. Thanks MartiniB. All I need now is to be able to go away abroad and use them!
  19. Indeed, the electronic part might be harder than the hardware part ... finding someone who REALLY knows his way in VAG system, it could be done fast. But it could lead to a nightmare too ...

I've just had an email from Mountaindog they've got them on offer, at £30 (No affiliation, used them for dog coats)
  21. The power of the MQB chassis is it's modularity. The mounting points of the sub-frame of a Superb and an Octavia are the same, engine position is the same, suspension is almost the same, etc... Have your mechanic measure, but basically you just need to drop the Superb sub-frames and fit them back to the Octavia. Frankly if you get a donor car that has good engine and subframes, you should be able to directly swap the sub-frames with every thing bolted to them.
  22. Why don't you take the Superb rear sub-frame too ? It should fit to the Octavia. Basically you could get the WHOLE motor + gear box + sub-frames (front and rear) ? maybe even full Haldex system, but the fuel tank has to be changed as it is different on 4x4. Keep in mind that the DQ250 for haldex has an additional complication on the front differential to redirect the power on the rear end.
  23. So, with a big thank you to @varaderoguy I now have working, matching mirror indicators. It would've been an easier job with a) smaller fingers b) not finding out two of the locating tabs had broken in the impact... Clear Gorilla Tape and cable ties later we're done. 🤬🤬 Peugeot drivers 🤬🤬
  24. Forgot to mention, but changed it first thing with good quality one before cleaning. Old filter was in pretty good condition.
  25. I would also suggest using some Autoglym Interior cleaner as well as Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Sorry - I just love Autoglym products as they are genuinely brilliant (although they are expensive).
  26. Hi all, another quick one! The new plates are on and looking smart, it's closest I could get to my old prelude's plate (god I miss that car)

The world's your oyster with that one, should you decide to replace them.

Thank you, I like it too. Though I'm not that keen on the wheels 🙂

Welcome to the forums, @Lincswhite. That's a pretty looking Octy in that colour.
  30. It will cost a total of around €3.5k including the retrofitting of the smart entry as well
  31. Just bit the bullet & bought these. What a difference from the stock bulbs! Incredible
  32. What radio do you have? Generally you need a bluetooth module, wiring harness and microphone
  33. Can you look for the wiring to the sensors yourself? It's possible they haven't been re-connected properly and water has got into the connectors.
  34. This must be for ''UK drive style" because the battery is on the right side.
  35. I heard about this place just last week. 50+ chargers! Apparently parking charges are steep, so free electric makes it more bearable.
  36. You pays your money and make your choice.

No idea on the rumours, but first thing to do is find out if the grant is paid on delivery or order date. Other thing is to look at it and how much deposit you put down. If you paid £500 but stand to save a couple of thousand, then you might as well cancel and reorder. Until it’s released you won’t really know.
  38. I work in IT. Closing and opening all the windows is the first thing we do when something goes wrong.
  39. mmmm........interesting.......does potentially look like that. I think I would be removing the bumper etc to have a look to see whats going on, it really should not fall down like that unless it was broken from a previous front end knock and then bodged into place instead of being replaced.
  40. I would, but be prepared for a main stealer to say "Nothing to do wif us Guv, and it'll cost you £90 to even find out where to look."
  41. Yes and no. Yes in that the replacement dampers will have necessitated disturbing the cables to the front ABS sensors, and maybe the sensors themselves. And that could have a knock-on effect on the TPMS, and any traction control system fitted. No in that it should not cause any defect(s) other than from disconnecting and reconnecting the sensors.
  42. The low beam range on my Superb Bi-xenons r spot on, from factory. See the vid of mine below - will give u an idea of how it should b normally. Sounds like urs needs adjusting. https://youtu.be/v3BgUfsupkM
  43. Im running on 19" AEZ Steam, which are going to be my winterwheels to. Next year I´ll go with some 20" of some kind 😄
  44. Interesting, as I got a car from stock that had 50kW charging. I probably would have specified 100kW charging as an option if I’d ordered one to be built, but 6,000 miles of use later and I haven’t had to rapid charge it at all yet. I’m not sure that, for me, the cost would be worth it.

IMHO a 2011 1.2 TSI will have a timing chain - not a belt? Jim
  46. Audi Lava Grey Skoda Race Blue BMW Le Mans Blue They did some good colours on the Clio 172/182s - I think "Petrol Blue" would look good on a mk1 Octavia.

I would be tempted to change the lot as a one off when you get the vehicle. However, if you trust the service history services are every 12 months or 10,000 miles - oil & filter etc. Spark plugs 40,000 miles, timing belt 5 years or 60,000 miles - don’t skimp on that one as new engines are expensive. Again, if it has been fully serviced in line with Skoda schedule then just carry on with the schedule.
  48. new map files -> Columbus Mib2H 2022 -> Amundsen Mib2 2022/23
  49. Off for the week to try and break the back of the garden project.... Waiting on a bulk bag of Cotswold chippings and the OH went out at 11.30 and not due back until 7.45 ish and the cassette conveniently arrived at 11.45, soooooo.... New stuff on the Whyte, older and some new on the Felt 😏 I'm not too sure on the jump to the 46 on the Shimano, Sun Race is a steady even rise but we'll give it a go and see. Needs a bit of attention to fine tune it but need to have a quick ride to bed it in first. Felt doesn't seem too bad, again a short spin out needed to see where that is on shifting
