  1. Lovely sunset this evening followed by a nice clear Moon (waning gibbous)
  2. This saga appeared to progress beyond the realms of being able to be fixed by sticky tape and the prayers of a man praying to a non-specific deity. The car was overfuelling... and as a result, skinning me alive in petrol alone. I threw quite a few sensors at it, but it appears both my pre-cat lambda and MAP sensor had both given up the ghost without setting the engine light into a screeching frenzy. So maybe the moral here is to rely on your brain (or whatever is in that bit of yer heid) and not always on the OBD readings. All I know is that it works now and that isn't bad. Electrical witchcraft seems to have sorted itself out mostly, too. Win win.
  3. See also: natural selection isn't selecting correctly.
  4. Yes, there is an axiom in old-school diesel tuning, it says "no smoke, no poke", the reason for this is that pre unit injection (PD) and common rail injection atomisation was very poor due to low injection pressures so more fuel than needed had to be injected. This is no longer the case, however in common with other tuning mythology the axiom persists in the realms of mouthbreather owners who don't believe they're getting maximum powah unless the car smokes like a chimney. There is no fix for stupidity.
  5. Do it, and never use the main stealer again!

On my car when entering Satnav you have a menu including a list of recent journeys, I just select one and it appears. I use it very frequently.
  10. I would take the car back to where you bought it new and ask them what is really wrong, you might be able to get some help with the cost if a new engine is needed.

All sorted. @ZoltanbPlease use the PM system to send personal details in future. 👍
  12. Bees on the Ball Thistles
  13. The estimated range will have appeared to have gone up because this journey (cruising on autoroutes?) will be giving better MPG than the previous tankfull so it has recalculated. I have kept an eye on both MPG and range on all 3 of my skodas for the last 16 years so I am quite used to its foibles, I can also predict usually to within a couple of minutes when the low fuel warning will come on. Sad that my life should have come to this, the young J.R. would have had no time for this old fart!!
  14. I must say that the DCC is a fine option. I almost daily change my DCC settings depending on where i drive, or what i like. Also did some ODB11 live viewing of the dampeners. They really seem to be "active" all the time. More on this later.
  15. What the OP probably needs is a changeable map so can have a smoky one for fun/trackdays then standard or non-smokey one for MOTs and normal driving, etc Would that be cheating?........not that VW (VAG) has ever done that!
  16. Yep! In fairness, the computer helped a little with diagnosis, but only through pulling live data from these sensors. It was mostly smell and a light wallet that alerted me to the running rich issue.
  17. Good news, you have it sorted it and learnt that computer program error codes and warnings are not the be all and end all but to use your human senses, eyes, ears, smell, (taste and touch) and your biological computer, your brain. You can see the car's using too much fuel with your eyes, and work it out with your brain with simple maths. Look at it this way, a computer might tell you a kick in the gonads isn't that bad and you'll get over it but whether you've ever suffered such or not your brain should say to deeply avoid it - though engineers and mechanics might argue around the outcome. 🤣
  18. My first ever encounter with a hummingbird moth, two actually: They don't stay still! Gaz
  19. Hi roottoot, Thanks! Yeah, it is West End I'll ask them tomorrow! Autohouse is the place I looked up actually. They are 10min along the road from me! I will also give them a call tomorrow!
  20. Welcome. Best ignore the thread about a 1.5 TSI and water pump because that has no relevance to your 2.0TDI. ? Is your Local Dealer West End? Ask if they are a participating dealership and the first 30 minutes of a diagnosis is £60, because that is as long as it should take and if they are doing the repair they can waive that. Or Maybe try http://autohausedinburgh.co.uk and get the job done for a fair price by fully qualified and experienced techs.

Welcome to the forum. Personally i would let the 20 year old low mileage car have a nice easy life going about keeping up with newer cars and even having a bit more go than many.
  22. It is not an issue common to Automatic cars, it is common to VW Group DSG's that are Semi-Automatics. They produce millions or them maybe the percentage with the issue is small but that does not mean the VW Group should just get away with the car buyers being landed with the expense or irritation if a vehicle is out of warranty. In the EU & UK they can get away with anything.
  23. Why not piggyback fuse 6 (rear window wiper that is only live with ignition on) in the fusebox, take wire up behind A pillar trim (which comes off just by lifting it up) and tucking behind roof trim. Takes all of 10 minutes. The fuse box in the manual is upside down (for left hand drive cars) the one below shows it correctly

Make sure you have the lockdown tools too or you will have problems.
  25. MU 8755 is available, will send PM in next few minutes.
  26. Diesel knock. 2 so called mechanics diagnose "Engine done" without saying what has failed, best (least worst more like) mechanic says its a broken crankshaft 🥴 I have never known an engine to be able to run let alone drive a vehicle with a broken crankshaft, and I have seen many. Find someone who can either give a correct diagnosis or is not afraid to say "I don't know what is wrong with this one!" rather than BS.
  27. You might also need to exchange Gateway/BCM module but I cannot give you definitive answer as I have never done this before.
  28. Just in case anyone is wondering what is covered by SWAP/FEC codes. This is from my MK4 SEL model. Has no additional optional extras
  29. @Baltazar pls x-check with other car as rear speakers in these units work as background only, the difference between front and rear is typical and nothing you should usually worry about.
  30. I had 4 years with the emissions remap on and nothing happened. Wouldn't happened earlier if it was from that?
  31. Welcome. The problem is that the best mechanic in your town is maybe not that good so what are the rest like that you would be using to find you an engine and fit it. Unlikely the engine has a broken crankshaft. Did your low mileage 1.2TDI have the VW Fix carried out at sometime as part of the Emissions scandal recall where new Engine Management was put on your car?

If you download the user manual, you can pull up a list of visited locations and save if needed it would seem. https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models enter VIN or browse to Karoq.
  33. Dropped subframe to do track rods and caster increase bushes. Needed to reuse a jam nut off an old track rod, one of the new ones went missing. New vs Old wishbones Built all on the bench, keg even Regreased ARB Bushes and Steering rack bush when I had access. Back together. Did my best to keep the length of the track rods the same as the old ones, but with the castor bushes it didn't really matter. Drives straight enough for now, will be aligned ASAP Have a printout of the alignment before, so should be able to see just what difference these bushes have done to castor. First impressions are good, but I think I should wait until its aligned proper to say for sure just what difference these have made.
  34. New dogbones done and installed Not the prettiest but anyway. Only realised swapping them out that a Mk1 dogbones different to the one originally on the mk2 In the car, it's very firm at idle Powerflex is a 65 shore hardness and mine is a 70. Think it'll need reliefs drilled into it just to take the edge off it. Off idle it is superb however. Filled the hydroil mount with 60 shore stuff. Should be a good balance I think. Dyed black even though it'll never be seen.

At Bluewater after a full service and clean. Off to the Lake District tomorrow
  37. Try resetting the linkage first and topping up the oil otherwise the gearbox will have to come out for reconditioning.
  38. @Hastein I feel your pain. Good luck getting it all sorted!

New rear badge and service items have arrived
  40. And another seemingly final update here for anyone struggling as much as I was to find answers in the future...found this video: which allowed me to understand the "loose nut" issue more clearly and whipped off the wheel arch liner (just the bottom part is enough for this) and saw I had no bolt in the compressor at all...so with the assumption it was stripped of splines as the video shows I popped a bolt in with loctite just to see if it was actually stripped and hey presto...cold air again. So before you go buying a new compressor just spend 20 minutes...wheel off, liner out and check your compressor bolt....2013 facelift Octavia Scout for posterity. If it fails again I will update here with the replacement shear plate kit the chaps in the video offer.

Got rid of the blue badges today and fitted new style front. Still waiting on boot one to arrive
  42. I think threads/posts like this are useful to know what is out there. I honestly thought the smoke tune/map was just a joke, I'm so old and naïve. It's an extreme extension of other fashionable "modifications" often seen on clapped out cars to the detriment of the vehicle, its driver, passengers and for all around. But the number plate is cleverly hidden. 😁
  43. Another teaser from my dealer. In this picture the iV model does not look too high. Read windows might need more tint than factory gave.
  44. Newly arrived VRS iV in graphite grey.

  48. Only in this weather do I now appreciate ventilated seats. They realty do keep ones back, bum and neither regions lovely and cool!
  49. I went from a 67 plate Superb S/L 190 DSG to the VRS. The VRS is soo much quieter , smoother and really not that much smaller. So much so i never ever really thought about it. Its really nimble. I thought the Superb was Superb but the Octy felt ( NOW IM ONLY TALKING MECHANICALLY ) much better. Electronically on my version it was a disaster , fault after fault , freezing screens , forgetting users , changing settings at a whim. The list goes on an on ( dealer has 85 faults registered on the car) and well detailed in this forum. As i said many times , if i had bought a TV from Currys and it exhibited one fault , it would have been back in the showroom same day. Having to pay full price to beta test their software really stuck in my throat. I know some newer cars have maybe ironed out all the probs and it maybe a good call to go for one now but on my S/W version of 1803 , no fix has been made available after multiple attempts. A fix that was promised by Skoda UK 31st March 2022, the fix never came. So after 15 months , 40 days total off road at the dealer , i formally rejected and it was approved by VWFS. I really regret doing this as there is nothing out there in that price segment that looks as good and drives. So finally today signed paperwork for a Hyundia Hybrid Tucson N line. 23 week wait they say. Again , im soo annoyed at Skoda for serving their customers a pile of ****e car , a car that could have been the best car i ever owned.
