  1. I'm extremely proud of S.O.C.G.B. today. I know I'm responsible for bringing the Stanford Hall event back to our events calendar but I couldn't do any organising for this years event. I'd just like to express a heart felt thank you from my family and I to all those involved in making today what it was. You all done us proud and I know my late daughter Gail will feel the same wherever she is. It is appreciated more than any words I can type can possibly explain.

  4. Temper, temper. I was just trying to save you wasting your time. Surely you know that posting on an internet forum will always invite opinion as well as advice? Personally I welcome it as I often learn something. Good luck with your search for a way to make use of your fog-lights illegal. Also to be legal dip beams must have their centres 500 - 1200mm above the road surface and angled between 1 and 1-1/2 degrees below the horizontal - that's fact not opinion.

  5. After selling my fabia I decided I needed a new project and this time it is in the form of this BMW 335d Msport. The car is a much better place to be sat in but as of yet is missing the "va va voom" of the fabia. Yes it is quick in standard form but no where near as mental as the fabia was lol. Standard graph showing 273bhp and around 370ftlbs (330 is the average) As with the last build this one will be taken quite far to reach some silly figures. Plans at present are upgrade FMIC Remove EGR Remove DPF Remap Remove swirl flaps Once that's done and has been bedded in will look at upgrading the turbos to see a tad over 400bhp and 550 - 600ftlbs with any luck. Once the power side of things have been sorted I will begin to tidy the car up a little but that will come much later on lol. A LSD may also make it onto the car depending how twitchy it becomes but seems rather sedate in current form

  6. Road racing has long been a controversial topic with regards to it being outlawed on safety grounds and no doubt will continue to be questioned. This generally comes from people who have no interest or understanding of the sport what so ever! Competitors, marshals and spectators alike all understand the risks involved and make their own decision about attending such meetings. The sport is continually evolving and adapting to remove as much unnecessary risk as possible for all concerned, but nothing is 100% safe in life. In today's news another typical example that encapsulates the spirit of the sport and what it means to those who love it. Violet was injured spectating at the North West 200 and was critical for days and in the usual road racing fashion, she immediately states her support for the sport and her eagerness to return next year! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/32870920 It also reminds me of this incident in 2009 at the ARR when after an elderly spectator was killed during the final race. The article doesn't mention specifically that upon learning of the tragedy, the family instantly insisted the race should continue as it would have been what he wanted. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/man-75-killed-by-motorbike-while-watching-armoy-race-28490349.html For anyone who has never experienced road racing, I highly recommend it. A grid of bikes pushing 200 mph 4/5/6/7/8 abreast passing you less than a meter away(if you choose) on a country road, is....... JUST WATCH! (especially noting spectators chosen spots at 1:25 onwards, WOW!

  7. Well done for the Briskoda Member in a Standard Family Estate with a 1390 cc petrol Engine with DSG against a Nissan GTR. No doubt on what would be the quickest, but the front wheel driver did pretty well off the line and for the rest of the 1/4 mile.

  8. Not necessarily driving but whilst parking in Asda I was confronted by a woman parking her Porsche Cockster in a parents only space, I very nicely commented as my son was getting out my car, that it was for parent and child only, to which she replied 'mind your own business pr*ck', we walked off to get a trolley as my son said 'aren't Boxsters for people who are too poor and stupid to get a 911' in a very loud voice, to which I said yes and also arrogant. Forward on a minute as I come back from getting a trolley and see the woman sweet talking the parking officer, and telling them she would only be a minute, the parking officer said okay, she then walked into Asda as he gave her a £80 parking fine and I assume clamped the car, as when I came back to my car she was having a very irate telephone call Also In Asda the very bald man at the hair colour counter pondering for at least 5 minutes over what colour to buy (I assume for the missus?)

  10. I find the heated seats very handy. I don't like driving with a jacket on or anything bulky. This solves the issue for me. Having said that, if they hadn't come as part of the winter pack (ie I could have just got the heated screen on its own) I wouldn't have ticked the box for them.

  11. Bread and circuses, don't fall for it. When that volcano in Iceland grounded thousands of flights, it pumped LESS pollution into the atmosphere than the grounded aircraft would have produced. A gaming PC rig will produce the same Co2 as driving 400Km a month, due to the energy required to produce the electricity to run the PC. The main issue is global energy usage, and while personal transport is part of the problem, it is only a tiny part of the problem. What this planet needs, and it needs it now, is a method of cold fusion. Also a massive reduction in global population. If we don't do it, mother nature will.

  12. Driving a minibus for a wedding party on the standard rate of £7.50p.h. ie no extra pay for Bank Holiday Sunday (to make the trip affordable for them in the hope of a reasonable tip-I made this clear when sorting the bus payment), going the extra mile, turning up early both ways, being friendly, putting music on and generally putting up with their drunken noise and nonsense with a smile..... ....and getting no tip. Not even 10p off the whole group. It's the second time this has happened with the same faces from the same road, so next time I ain't going. Balls to them. Nearly as bad as recently when I did a miserable full day of total drunken lunacy with a big group of career drunks. The organiser took £30 off each passenger telling them it was £27 for the bus and £3 for a tip, pocketed the lot himself and gave me nothing whatsoever. People wonder why many coach drivers on private hire are hardened, grumpy, miserable, won't deviate at all from the written bus orders (ie dropping people off near their houses), wonder why they turn up on the minute with an ice-cold or baking coach rather than early with heating or air-con sorted as needed, won't chat or get involved, and drive off at the exact time of departure leaving anyone late behind to get a taxi. Perhaps I should learn. Disheartened :(

Also accepts dual inputs so if you had a rear one too its ideal.

  20. Just came in from having a play with Carista on my mum's poverty-spec Fabia. Was pleasantly surprised with how much I was able to enable. My mum's car now has (all tested and working): Dial staging Teardrop wipe Speed-sensitive wipers Audible bleep on lock and unlock (the car already had remote opening and closing of the windows enabled) Now, just need Carista to add support for Rapid dial staging to the iOS version of the app and I'll be a happy bunny. There's also a couple of VCDS Rapid hacks I really want to try, which I believe Dukedl has managed to get working including speed-sensitive wipers (see above) and enabling Hill Hold Assist. I REALLY miss Hill Hold Assist having had it on the C4.

  21. I'm not in a position to fully comment on this question, as I haven't run the same hardware back-to-back with both a Shark and then Faboka map. However... I have run maps from both these companies. I had a Shark stage 1 map when I was running an otherwise standard engine and turbo. Smoke levels were hardly any different than standard and it was a big improvement. My turbo did blow on this map eventually, but that's probably just coincidence. After upgrading the turbo I had a new map off Shark put on by one of their dealers. The car smoked a fair bit with this on. In all honesty I didn't know much about all this remapping business back then and just assumed that this was the norm. Don't get me wrong it wasn't horrendous, but on WOT it wasn't brilliant. I also found that the car had a fairly large surge of torque low down. Whilst not horrendously spikey, it did mean that the car was not easy to put the power down with when booting it from low revs. I then upgraded to the 2260 and got John (a.k.a. Faboka) to map it. The difference was unreal! Obviously now some of this is down to the characteristics of the turbo itself, but overall I'm so happy with the work that John has done on the mapping. I chose John's file mapping over email option, and I'm currently on about the twelfth or so map from him. John is somewhat of a perfectionist it seems, so will constantly tweak your map until you're both happy with it. With regards to the delivery of the power... it is far far better than my old hybrid setup. As I currently stand, the car makes about 40bhp more than the old hybrid setup, and it is FAR more tractable now than it ever was. This is testament to the quality of the mapping. Smoke levels are also nowhere near what they were with the hybrid in place. I'm not slating Shark here, as I know a lot of people are very happy with their work... but I would chose Faboka over them any day of the week for diesel mapping! The effort John puts in is far above and beyond what a normal tuner would do for you without paying them a fortune. I suppose that this comes from John doing this as a sideline - he will spend a vast amount of time with each customer. A big name tuner simply wouldn't have the same amount of time to keep tweaking and data-logging maps until they're pretty much perfect. John however will! I still think that Shark are an excellent choice when you're looking for a standard stage 1 map. Just not as good as Faboka IMO.

  22. Alex if you want I have a spare engine which we can dummy build everything on. Infact should this be a means to more power then I could potentially be game for going down this route myself, I was looking at H beam rods the other week. I really wanna have a read through a few of the links posted but with only access to the internet via my phone it's a tad hard to read into it all in full depth.

  25. Yeah that does look good with the bits on. Very nice indeed I have already bought the stick on rubber bumper strip as that's what I have on my Fabia Here it is earlier today ready to be driven away. It was a september 2014 reg with 47 miles on. Apparently just registered and stashed at the back of the compound. Great price and saving. Drives really nice - comfortable 'roomy' and brisk enough not to frustrate

  26. yeah I totally understand the merits of using an original unit from a car, but the concept of opening up an engine block and spending top money to have it bore to take bigger Pistons is crazy, whereas an entire 2.0 engine could be had for relatively small cost from a breaker, the metal parts that bolt it to the car are fairly easily to assemble or adapt from existing parts cut and joined together, but if it's solely down to the fact the crank sensor is incompatible then these club Tdi guys are not thinking outside the box enough, even if you had to have a new trigger disc laser cut and pushed onto the existing crank, it's only a transision fit on the rear crank rear nose, I'd even wager it's the same size mounting across both engine types, some plucky individual could even produce a kit of parts needed to do this conversion.if somebody wants to give me the car and the engine, I'd make it fit and work, certainly won't be messing around changing Pistons round that's for sure.

  27. I think most of them have managed to do it under warranty. I am exactly in the unfortunate position I had guessed I would be in case a final remedy was found at some point (as it has been) because the extended warranty I had bought was only valid for France and I have moved from there. However, even if I was still in France and thus eligible for warranty work, I think I would fail (means: pass) the oil test that you must take in order to have repair work authorized so maybe I shouldn't stress too much. Car has somehow reduced the consumption to a mere 100-150ml per 1000KM over the last 7000KM (seems to be very related to short trips) and it looks like it's keeping that habbit... I guess for people that do have a big oil issue, they can raise a case against VW/Skoda having to pay for this as it's only their (manufacturers) fault they discovered what was wrong some 4 years after the first cars were sold, hence at a time when everybody was out of warranty (convenient eh?) There's also people that have done that under their own cost which differs from country to country due to the differences in labour cost. I was quoted £460 GBP (SEK conversion) here in Sweden just for the oil jets, whereas in Greece it is something around £250 i think. 1lt per 5000km doesn't sound excessive but since they're ok to do it at their cost you can't argue with them, can you?

  30. Yes they are. Plenty of CAVE Polo GTIs and Cupras that have confirmed it worked for all of them on FB and other forums. It's just that if they car is completely untouched, dealers might also add all previous mods to the work, that's what they told me here in Sweden. So it's a list of 3 things iirc, breather mod, piping, new software and then oil jets. Even though it's basically the jets that do the difference and If I was doing mine under my own cost I would deliberately skip the first two and just have the jets replaced.

  32. Picked up my car Wednesday morning and it's like driving a completely different car. The gear changes are now so smooth it's hard to tell when it's changing gear. The fuel economy is miles better as well, before the mechtronics pack was changed I struggled to get 40mpg - now, on one recent trip down the m6, I'm getting 55mpg. Can only assume that the pack has been faulty since the car was new - hopefully that's the last problem I'll have with it (fingers crossed)[emoji1]

  35. Hi I assume you mean wax and not polish...two different product types + there are sealants However' I'm not going to give you a recommendation because there are may different favourites Firstly a couple of questions: 1. Do you have a budget? They range from a few quid to over £2000 !!! 2. How often do you wish to rewax? Some are more durable than others Crucial questions when deciding what to buy May I suggest that you read these guides: http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/choosing-paint-protection.html Then have a look at their waxes and see what falls into your budget or takes your fancy http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/natural-carnauba-waxes.html or here http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/cat_4.html Any more questions..Please feel free to ask

  44. Here's my thoughts if you are doing this weekly fortnightly. pressure wash - rinse - YARP snow foam - YARP rinse - YARP 2 bucket clean - YARP rinse - YARP dry - YARP so what are we up to now? Perhaps 30 minutes if taking your time? clay - or not - NOOOOOOO. IMO there is no need for this to be done more than perhaps twice a year, when being combined with a full M.O.P quick wash+ rinse (if clayed) - YARP (but see above) polish - NOOOOOOO. - Only needed to me when the paint finish has gone bad again, which shouldn't happen with good wash routine (see first 30 minutes above) wax/ seal - NOOOOOOO. Should only be needed if the applied finish has clearly started losing its water repelling function (easy to test) So to answer the question a little easier I argue that a full 7 hour job is needed TWO times a year at most, as when done properly, the maintenance washing etc shouldn't take anywhere near as long. My Fabia gets full job in March and around end of September. Don;t forget if you have a good wax/seal layer on the car, "polishing" will simply remove it. Why do it then? It would be extremely counter productive.

Are we going to be left to sort our own booking out or are you going to do a group booking. If we do come in the camper then one of the pitches at the bottom field opposite where we camped before would be great. I'll message Loz and bring her attention to this too. Phil
