  2. I would agree if it were a petrol engine, but NOT on a PD engine, the belt on a PD works very hard indeed, your mechanic knows petrol engines but we see lots of smashed heads on PD engines from belt failure. Get it done.

  6. Let me get this right the young and intelligent who didn’t vote in the referendum did not do so because they assumed the polls were correct. Secondly they hadn’t registered themselves correctly to vote, which is an easy process. Can we still say they were intelligent?

  12. We bought it new back in 2010 as replacement of an 1.6 2002 Octavia and an 1.2Htp 2006 Fabia. The engine is 1.2Tsi manual and currently have 136.000Km on clock. Still on stock dampers and brake pads and they still do have a lot of Km to offer. Problems : 1. A/C pump under warranty, due to dealer's stupidity. There was no need as there was no problem. 2. Spark plugs and lead cables for cylinders 3 and 4 were blown. This happened about 3.000Km after servicing the car at dealer's. I still believe that they did not screw the plugs properly. Cost for 4 spark plugs and Beru lead cables including job was 150€ at independent VAG specialist garage. 3. Cam chain replacement at independent VAG specialist garage, as dealers kept telling me that it was a normal sound and after warranty expired they told me it was the well known chain issue. They offered me ridiculusly high prices ca. 700€ to 800€ while parts, job and oil service were done at 350€. 4. Two years ago water pump axle went loose causing a nasty sound like shaking gravel in a wahsing machine, yet no loss of coolant and due to major family issues kept going for about 15.000Km this way. Replaced at a Seat dealership due to half price of the Skoda dealership. Warranty is the same as Skoda. 5. PCV Valve broke and cost was 20€. This valve is going to be replaced again because after the oil fumes return hose popped out from that valve she got dirty from oil deposits and I will replace her mainly for cosmetic reasons. 6. Cables at A-door pillar within the plastic bellow. One dealership diagnosed faulty lock and quoted 270€. Two independent electricians said the same and quoted 150€ and 180€. Then after a year I visited another dealership out of curiosity and they told me that they will open the bellows as they were sure that cables were broken. So they did. They resoldered the cables and asked 20€. Cons: 1. The seats. They do not offer enough lumbar support. 2. The middle rear seat. Too small and her's seatbelt quite weird. 3. The 195/55R15 tyre size. It is ridiculusly overpriced. Awkward: 1. It still has the factory fitted brake pads. 2. It still has the factory fitted battery 3. It still has the factory fitted clutch 4. it still has the factory fitted exhaust 6. It still has the factory fitted suspention 5. Key fobs still have the factory fitted batteries Pros: 1. Car's dimensions. Between Fabia and Octavia thus ideal both for travelling long distances and everyday city commuting. 2. Rear doors windows in combination with the step over which rear seats are placed made the car ideal for carrying kids. 3. It would take me over a month in order to write all the pros. Verdict: It is the most beautiful ugly car I have ever owned. It seems that we will keep it for the years to come, unless something unexpected will occur. We are are over pleased by the car and we really enjoy use it daily. On motorways keeping speed between 100 and 120 km/h it can travel for 1.000 to 1.100 on a single fuel tank. The boot is covering our needs and I even moved a mirror of 1.90m X 0.90m within the cabin after removing the rear seats and the boot shelf. Handling and pulling out of corners are exemplary for such a car body as well as the engine power is on overtaking, a factor that gives an extra safety feeling. Brakes are excellent too. Far better than both Octavia and Fabia we owned. And I bet my penny that this is because of the combination of the two that Roomster is. Front axle Fabia, rear axle Octavia combi. Too shame that Skoda never supported that car as should.

  13. I have this LED's and they are great: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Canbus-Error-Free-No-Hyper-Flash-Amber-Turn-Signal-BAU15S-BA15S-PY21W-1156-S25-LED-Bulbs/1396454_32945895534.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.1.67105dc5LgGW4z. No hyperflash, no error on dash You can find identical one in A L I, but I have made a mistake, ordered them and they show blown bulb error on dashboard. That's why they cost only 3$. Here is video how's on my Octavia: LED PY21W

  14. Brilliant car. Super smooth drive - 102 TSi DSG. Carried a std. size tumble dryer with room for a rear passenger too. Carried a 55" Sony TV in the box - no worries. I have fitted some more bucketed seats from a Seat Ibiza FR (added bonus, they flip forward) Some cosmetic stupidity and some actually useful add-ons (cruise control and fog/running lights) Heko wind deflectors are great. All in all great.

  19. READ the posts ........ The problems are largely, though not exclusively, associated with the manual gearbox NOT the dsg. The dsg box seems to be able to mask the issues. I wouldn't touch one with the dsg box either as I would be suspicious of storing up troubles for later. My Karoq is the manual version - great car but I cannot put up with the dying at junctions.

  22. A Wind deflector on the driver / passengers door is good for the cable going in the car with the window just open a couple of mm. I have a Greenhouse fan heater set at a few degrees above freezing and just put in and plugged in when the car gets parked. Not using that much power as the car interior tends to hold the heat and the heater just come on as required.

  23. I don't entirely agree with this, due to my job I need a car that is reliable and if it does unfortunately break down I have the peace of mind with a warranty. I tend to put a lot of miles on my car so keeping it for 5-6 years is not really an option. Plus my work insist that I have a car less that 4 years old. I am not in a position to spend £30K plus on a new car so would either need to take out a loan or go on a PCP deal - both of which are monthly commitments with the PCP being a far lower monthly commitment. Yes I could go for a much cheaper car, however I need a large - relatively powerful car for work and my family and given the above they are that much more expensive. I understand that the car will "never be mine" I am happy with this and factor it in to my financial decision. PCP will never be ideal financially as there will invariably be interest payments, especially as if you hand the car back/or swap at the end of the deal you don't have a tangible asset - however it is an affordable way of getting a new, reliable (hopefully) car and for me it works. I am pretty astute when it comes to financial planning (especially given that my wife is an accountant) so I am comfortable that PCP is the right thing for me to do.

  25. The point is they are there for a reason, whether "we" like it or not, and who's idea it was and the thoughts behind it, I fully expected a reply "saying" loads have removed them with no issues, but that does not make it right or wrong or whatever, there is simply as you have stated in your reply to many variables involved. Comparing to other cars which don't have them, is really comparing apples with oranges, they maybe built on the same chassis and by the same "manufacturer", but they are all different in many other ways. I find this hard to believe and would need to see evidence of it, otherwise it's just hearsay / rumour, probably created by those asking "why is mine worse than or better than that when it's basically the same car"...............the Fabia was over £1500 cheaper new than the Polo and cheaper also than the seat, thats a lot of saving over time ref fuel consumption so I doubt adding weight was a way to combat this, thats my opinon anyway. Most people are badge "snobs" as well and will buy the Polo because of the brand / badge and avoid the Skoda also because of the badge. Skoda, VW or Seat or anyone else have to design the car to be "average" across the board, expected use and performance, just because they have powerful engines and an RS badge, they don't build them to be a track car because they would both be more expensive and they would sell even less of them as comfort, ride and everything else suffers, so you have to find a happy medium V a price bracket your aiming for in the market, in the same way an engine tune covers a broad range of use around the world, adding the weights "may" have been an easy solution / quick fix for a handling issue, but it was done to "improve" something.

  28. Sorry - I was slightly misleading... The only way to stop it globally is to unplug it (although I assume it could be disabled with VCDS). But in individual settings it is one of the options. So my individual mode is exactly the same as sport mode but with the soundaktor off. If I wanted normal mode to have the soubdaktor off I'd have to go back to individual settings and set it up accordingly.

  29. CHEAP, compared to AF, who charge up to £45 FOR ARRANGING A POLICY ETC. Strange, as I'd always thought that the brokers got paid by the insurance companies for introducing clients. SO have we got a new breed of greedy brokers, who NEED to be named and shamed. List 1- Adrian Flux for a £45 renewal /intro fee on my last policy. Sadly, AF profits fell as I told them that I'd go elsewhere and BE A "brand new customer" ,elsewhere and get the benefit of nt paying for the privilege of them renewing my policy and getting paid by both sides. Feel free to add other brokers in list 2- infinity. Perhaps it's time to name and shame the brokers on here who offer ( but don't live up to the promises) of cheaper insurance for bog standard motorists, with a good claims record and a clean sheet.

  30. From my reading of the blue badge conditions attached to my badge, I believe that there are restrictions attached to parking in restricted areas, and the main one is "use common sense" .i'e, don't park to cause an obstruction - simple driving consideration, but perhaps that's an old fashioned notion these days.

  36. @Breezy, Likely there will be no issues with DSG / DQ200's in the near or distant future. VW Group should have learned after a 'World Wide Recall' in 2012 excluding Europe, then the Service Campaign stating 2013 in Europe. Then 2013-2015 the issues that required service campaign '34H5' a software update. Then from 2015-2018 across various models the 'Slipping Clutch' issues that have finally had a TPI issues and software updates & upgraded Clutch Packs. Just remember if any issues, Report them early, or VW / Skoda will say "Never heard of that before." while some say 'They all do that, it is a characteristic." Maybe time Twin Dry Clutch DSG had a 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty as VW had to give where the 'World Wide Recall' was done, ie in countries rthat matter to VW because courts would rip them a new one...

  38. Very happy ,bought it secondhand about 9 years ago.Had 4 VW cars before that keeping them on average for about 8 to 10 years. All good workhorses, and with very few problems.Do all my own servicing except bigger jobs like cam belts . I have enough servicing spares stocked in my garage hopefully to keep it serviced for years to come ! It seems the only recurring fault amongst this forum threads ,is broken wiring over time in the rubber gaiters , between body and doors. As I say the Roomster is an excellent reliable workhouse. Can,t think of anything I don,t like about it. Wishing you good luck with yours.

  39. Hi, me again. Incase it is of interest to anyone then I found a way that using Siri when connected to the Bluetooth works via the car speakers/microphone. I never found a way to trigger Siri via the car but if I have my phone in the car and I say, "Hey, Siri", the mic on the phone pics it up, but it then hands it over to the car. Siri will then ask my what I want via the car rather speakers and I can answer using the car microphone which works pretty well. So it means I can't use it when I have my phone in my pocket but if I have it out in the car somewhere I can trigger Siri and the bluetooth takes over. Just thought I'd respond to this in case anyone was interested.
