  1. Ironic that; the common point between the accessory, ignition and start positions is that all 3 use the same supply to the ignition.
  2. Yeah, that's a core plug. It should be quite possible to replace it, as long as you can find the right size.
  3. Not a Skoda, but I've experienced similar on a past car. AIUI the non-synchromesh reverse gear was making tooth to tooth contact when you tried to select reverse. The fastest and easiest "fix" was to select second, ease the clutch half up, push it back down and select reverse.
  4. I wonder, are we addressing the correct problem in the key? This describes like an ignition switch failure.
  5. Well, in high humidity conditions you certainly get condensation, and possibly ice, on the condenser elements. When you stop, the condensation runs off (observed fact, across multiple makes and models), and if it's ice it has to melt fist.
  6. @J.R. @ejstubbs - OK, what do you gain by potentially or actually dazzling oncoming traffic when you're stationary, or when you're following closely in slow moving traffic?
  7. Exactly. So you need the ability to explicitly select "sidelights only".
  8. You never drive in nighttime tailbacks where the traffic speed is under 15mph? Or use single track roads?
  9. Because an MOT "don't care" is either a pass or a "not tested".
  10. NO! Even if legal and pass MOT (not sure) you're virtually bound to introduce some sort of braking imbalance by doing this.
  11. OK. More usual transplants involve Alfa Romeo Alfasud/33 or Subaru boxer motors which do weigh more but have a lower centre of gravity.
  12. Yeah well, I had the initial impression it was a "new old stock" device, not a refurbished one.
  13. I wouldn't advise putting a Kent boat anchor in the back of an Estelle.
  14. Yes? That's the normal function of a reverse gear.
  15. OK, why did you assume that a retailer would test a piece of "new kit"?
  16. Yes, right now. That will recalculate itself over the next 100km or so according to your driving rather than your mechanic's plus idle time.
  17. You do know that what you'll get for a car this age is effectively a throttle position lock, and not a speed control?
  18. You didn't talk to the guy from Halfrauds that had the brain cell that day, if he told you that a Fabia 2 has stop/start fitted,
  19. Try replacing the stock spring clips with real Terry Jubilee clips.
  20. This can happen after leaving a car for 2 or 3 days, never mind its age. If it's at all possible, I suggest using an end-on parking space or a driveway rather than parallel parking in a street.
  21. Where is the U235 coming from, to get into the car?
  22. Not if the reason for the alternator inaction is:- The sprague clutch is open. One of the alternator control wires has come disconnected,
  23. These are fascia warning lights illuminating, because the relevant ECU isn't receiving sufficient voltage.
  24. Why particularly? The "air filter" removes dust from the atmosphere before feeding it into the engine, but doesn't clean everything.
