  1. That is interesting - are you aware that fuel formulation is usually different during the winter? This could suggest some sort of fuelling issue when using 'warm weather' formulation. I suggest trying a reputable fuel cetane-booster for a tankful and see if that changes things. If it does, the fuelling system should be checked.
  2. Hello Joe, that seems unlikely - I have seen references in this forum where some members have disconnected that sensor to permanently disable stop-start, I have not seen any issues reported when they did so. More likely to be an intermittent open-circuit in the instrument cluster.
  3. Hello Jeremy, assuming from 2.0 / 110KW, that you have a diesel - significant vibration from the engine could indicate a problem with the engine mounts, have you checked these? It could also be a fuelling issue, have you visually checked for engine movement while this vibration is happening? Enough vibration to affect the internal RV mirror sounds significantly bad - how long has this been happening?
  4. See if you can find a leaded solder with slightly higher tin content than normal - it has a higher melting point and is harder.
  5. I may be wrong, but I think I can see a tip of the LH paddle in the 1st image posted. I don't recall if paddles were standard fit on a VRS - but likely.
  6. Hi Chilled, DSG is an automated manual gearbox - it uses twin clutches to shift between alternate gear ratios, rather than a torque converter. DSG can be also used in manual mode by moving shift lever (or wheel-mounted paddles, if fitted)
  7. Plus 1 this ^^^^
  8. An alternative worth consideration - a 12 volt portable power pack, some come with a tyre compressor, USB connecter and cigarette type socket.
  9. Putting on my pedantic hat, lead-acid batteries don't actually 'store' energy - they produce energy by a reversible chemical process. Capacitors (or supercapacitors) store energy.
  10. Actually a very easy DIY job - highly recommend buying a good pair of hose clamp pliers (available online) The clamps can be difficult to remove without the proper tool.
  11. Hello Homeless, unable to help with the sensor location, but can advise that it's not necessary to pressurise the cooling system - there is no (or low pressure) when cold, the system pressure builds up as the system heats up.
  12. Hi, welcome to the forum. Halfords are wrong, your new battery will definitely need coding because of the different capacity and the change to AGM. I have seen references that Halfords claim to possess the capacity to do the required battery adaptation - although I'm not sure I'd trust them to do this correctly now.
  13. Normal advice for improving economy - - Imagine you have an egg between your right foot and the pedal. - Accelerate gently. - Look ahead and anticipate traffic. - Remember, unnecessary braking wastes fuel (see notes 2 and 3), try to 'coast' up to red traffic signals. - Use highest gear possible suitable for current speed, while still allowing proper vehicle control.
  14. Check that the sensor bracket hasn't been broken - try gently pressing the sensor in different directions.
  15. Hello Alan, SWMBOs Fabia (3-pot, 1.0, 110 TSI) averages between 40-45 mpg doing mostly short runs. I suggest running a check on your fuel computer readings by doing as NTA16 says with a tank to tank run. When was the air filter last changed? I prefer my Octavia's 4 cylinder 1.4 to her Fabia 1.0, 3 - mostly for the extra, low down torque. The Fabia is more 'chuckable' however.
  16. Maybe the manufacturers were anticipating the threshold being raised in line with inflation?
  17. Hello, ask the seller to send you an image of the left-hand control stalk.
  18. The battery can indeed be partly discharged, even when 'brand new' - depending on the ambient temperature while in storage, a lead-acid battery CAN self-discharge by up to 1% per day. Not difficult to see that a new battery could easily be only 50% (or less) charged when fitted.
  19. @L_W Are you certain your vehicle is not fitted with front assist - I thought this feature was a standard fitting - Is there a small square sensor mounted in the centre of your front grill? The behaviour you describe sounds exactly like the front radar is sensing something and momentarily applying full ABS braking.
  20. I would understand 'solenoid' (electrically-operated actuator) to be item 1 in your images.
  21. That could not be possible when using the OEM jack to change a wheel.
  22. Hello Dilan, Mk111 if the vehicle is 2017. Has this been a Taxi? - not a red flag, but a possible negotiation point. How is the overall condition?
  23. Hello Daniel, welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone local to you will be along soon with suggestions.
  24. Now they look a great idea!
  25. I agree, I'd suggest trying one of the UK Bay suppliers first.
