Odd it does it at cold start. Wonder if its a poor connection somewhere thats bad when cold and when warm it expands making better contact or perhaps cranking cold engine is dropping voltage too low and causing errors. Check battery voltage when cold cranking? Hope you get to the bottom of it Alasdair

My octavia is the same but weird my sons 55 plate fabia is spotless. Think it depends on what part of the country they have been in due to road salt. Have a look at Bilt Hamber rust cure. Seems to work well and can be overpainted and also a reasonable price. Hydrate 80 is what I use. £25 per 500ml Alasdair

Go to https://www.lllparts.co.uk/ and browse by manufacturers parts diagram. If you input your vin it will narrow it down. The listings of the bearings may have a PRcode which there is a sticker in boot near spare wheel. You could also try febi parts finder. Find it pretty good. Alasdair

Was the new ECU cloned from the old one. If there is a software problem it may still be there as its been copied? Alasdair

On my sons 1.2htp 55 plate its external but the actuator rod is inside. His clutch totalled itself suddenly with no warning. When I did the clutch there was a very slight leak from the internal rubber gator part so fitted a new one. There not expensive. Alasdair

The front windows may be the drivers side motor. It controls the passenger side as well. There known to fail electronics but Breezy Pete on here repaired my sons for me. Clutch change is not bad. Managed to do my sons on car ramps and suspended box rather than get it out from under car although the plate between the bell housing and engine gets caught up and get new bolts for driveshafts. Watch the bolts that go into dogbone bush at rear of box. They are different lengths and if you get them mixed up you will trash the steering rack as its above and the bolt goes too far in. I replaced slave while I was at it as although its external if it leaks you wont notice. There excellent cars and so far fairly easy to work on and pretty reliable. Alasdair

I came across this before in my son in laws vw caddy. Never seen one before. It disables the cars rear fog light and also the rear parking sensors plus a few other things to do with stability control. You can get a 13 pin socket with microswitch. Alasdair

Nothing lasts forever. Belt may be ok but tensioner and maybe waterpump may fail. Still do mine every 5 years/60k for peace of mind. Alasdair

Sounds normal to me. Engine looks very clean as well. Have a good look for signs of oil leaks incase its been cleaned to cover any up. Might be worth getting a independent to have a look as warrior said. From memory AA do a basic one for around £100 or ask the garage you normally use if the car is local. Alasdair

Was there air in system when you bled it. If so try bleeding again to see if there is any air in system again. It may be the brake master thats failing and letting air in Alasdair

These days the costs of repairing cars are mad so many good cars are automatically written off. If its got a full or good service history and been repaired properly it should be ok. Timing belt these days is I think 130k (loads of different opinions) but I still do mine every 5 years/60k to be on the safe side. Have had mk2 octavias for years and no major problems. My current is 1.6tdi and old one 1.9tdi. Excellent cars to drive. Thinking of going petrol soon as I dont do long runs anymore and DPF is getting past it. Alasdair

Depends who did the repair and how well it was done. From memory CAT N i think is the new CAT D so value is probably 30-50% less than market price. Check what the current value of an undamaged similar car. Also check what insurance you can get. Even if the seller hasn't declared it it to you it will have a permanent CAT N marker and when getting quotes you have to mention it. Alasdair

Could also be a bad ignition switch especially if it works when turning key fast or fiddling about with it Pump I assume will prime at pre ignition etc but it may not be making proper contact when turning to start. Could also be loose connector/broken cable at back of switch. Alasdair

Not on a fabia but a Seat. The grommet that you mentioned thats too tight on mine had enough rubber at edge to push a length of fencewire through to engine bay and then taped cable to it and pulled it back through. You could also try snipping end off arrow marked and feed cable through there if it has one. Use vaseline etc to make cable slide easier or as I did stiffer wire first so you can pull it through.

Reckon the bearings will be sealed but a spray of penetrating oil wouldnt do any harm if you can get to the bearings. Could be its being used a lot more due to the hot weather. Had a volvo 940 that fan never came on until one really hot day. There was so much dust I thought engine had gone on fire and noise was terrible .Dont think it had been on for years and had seized up due to lack of use. Alasdair

00883 is I think is an ignition switch problem. it could be the switch behind the barrel that has failed. Read that there is part of the switch that senses when key is in ignition that is prone to failing. It could also be loose bad connection at switch. Check the fuses near battery for corrosion/loosness as well. Alasdair

Read on here that you remove wheel and plastic wheel arch for access to hydraulic connections/pump. They also removed fog light to access electric connections as they point forward. On my sons theres no front fog lights fitted so I assume if none the bumper may have to come off unless its accessible from under car. Alasdair

If its been standing for two years has the air filter and air intake assembly been replaced or checked. Have had a few wasps nests etc in my old parts donors. Alasdair
