Electric tailgate problem
@ Welshbloke, is this not a warranty issue, as it’s only three years old? Perhaps you’d get goodwill on the parts?

Thanks. So the power cuts off when the tailgate closes? How did you cut the holes in the cover?

Tyre Inflators
We’ve had a Michelin OE16 inflator for 20 years. Never let us down. It will inflate a flat tyre in around 3-4 minutes and it has a cut off when it reaches the required pressure; it over inflates by 1psi. However, I now keep an Aldi Cordless Mini Compressor in the boot and this is bl00dy brilliant! Yes it over inflates by 3psi, but I have a calibrated pressure gauge in the car so it’s not an issue.

I like that idea, and I did buy two pairs; unfortunately the link no longer works. 😟 The same units are available at a cheaper price from China, but I didn’t want to wait for 4-10 weeks for them to arrive one hopes - I’ve had many items never arrived from China - then having the possibility of being hit with import duty too. Fortunately, the ones I’ve posted about arrived in just two days. 👍🏻 PS - do you have the link to your hatchback light mod walkthrough?

What bulbs are fitted to the S3 & upgraded bulb recommendations
I’ve just purchased these LED units to replace the original standard units in the boot of the 280. Interestingly, they appear to be identical to the ones sold on the Kopacek website which are more than 3X the cost! They are much, much brighter and whiter than the OE units, even when I’d replaced the original W5W bulbs to LED’s; they were a pain to get them aligned properly too. The units are a bit tighter to get them in place than the OE holders and this is due to the case being slightly deeper but that’s no bad thing. Customer service was excellent too as I stupidly purchased the incorrect units originally and these were returned FOC and refunded very quickly.

517nm = 380lbft; that’s insane! TBH, apart from getting a classic of some sort, to sit and hopefully appreciate in the yet-to-be-built garage, I cannot see us ever getting rid of the 280; it’s a ridiculously well designed and made Q-Car. Who knows, it may well be that classic in-waiting in fact, in like, what, 19 years in our case? Perhaps I’ll shove it in there and buy something lease for everyday use. But for those who say I’m nuts, it’ll never be a “classic” I mean well, who in their right mind would pay £60k for a Ford Capri 280 or even more ridiculous, £100k for a Sierra Cosworth? Well, having had 1 RWD and 2 4x4 Sapphire Cosworths between ‘89 and ‘91 I can tell you, the 280 is better in every single respect. There were only 1,600 Cosworths of all types built. There are probably less than 1,500 280’s of all types in the U.K. and I can’t see it being available for much longer. Makes you think….

Yep that’s true but that’s when the packs are under the most torque. There are many, many 280 / Golf R /Cupra owners who are running Stage 1 remaps or piggybacks, with engines producing in excess of 400nm with standard DQ250 units without any issues. For instance, I think Colin170CR has a Revo Stage 1 map and a standard DQ250 and AFAIK, he doesn’t have any issues with the torque that map’ll be chucking out. In any event, I’m not going to be planting the right foot to the carpet at any time, so it’s unlikely I’ll be putting excessive strain on the clutch packs. PS - Sorry for the earlier dumb mistake on the DQ250.

Interesting. I guess clutch wear depends upon how many F1 starts and hard accelerations you’re going to perform. I think I’m correct in saying, that the 6 Speed Dry DSG is good for 500+nm which an S1 remap / piggyback are never going to reach, so that in itself isn’t going to wear the clutch pack anymore than running a standard setup. I wanted the Racechip to improve overtaking and give more ummph, not to startle BMW’s at the the lights.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I’ve driven a few more miles this morning. I still haven’t changed the mode from Eco but the difference even that makes, combined with zero throttle lag with the XLR pedal in place, is amazing. I will give sport a go later, when I can get on a dual carriageway. I do need to suss-out the app, though, as it keeps nagging me that I have it in a manual programme and do I want to revert to their set programme. Seems odd as they push the fact you can customise each programme to suit.

I switched it to Neutral and as I suspected, it does not bypass the XLR, which means although the pedal responds as standard, it still removes the throttle pedal lag which is great. 👍

Yeah, white with the black trim looks fantastic!
-
What have you done to your Superb III today?
Yes, there is a “Neutral” setting on the XLR, but I have no idea if that is a true direct pass through or not. I’ll try it this morning and see if the pedal depression lag returns.
-
What have you done to your Superb III today?
Yeah, I’m sure that is down to the pedal box, but I’ll disconnect it to double-check and report back later this week.

Sorry, I hit the return button by mistake - update above, Colin. It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic improvement.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
Installed a Racechip GTS Black and XLR Pedal Box yesterday. It took a total of around 4.5 hours; 4 hours for the GTS and 30 mins for the XLR. Where they get the estimates of 30 mins I’ll never ever know. After getting the car on the ramps (dead easy with the DSG) then dropping the under tray was fun, as was finding and disconnecting the D connector on the Turbo Boost Pressure sensor; that was the usual joy, but the majority of the time was taken up with routing the cables safely. Anyway, the important bit. Even with the GTS on the Eco setting, the car now drives brilliantly, with a lot more grunt and it was especially great not to have the usual throttle lag - that’s completely disappeared. Anyway, too busy this week to try anything further but it certainly looks like it will be transformational.

Thank Gawd for that “bud”…🙄

Antares 18" Wheels
Interesting. What about tyre roar and and noise in the cabin; any quieter?

Antares 18" Wheels
I’d be interested in the results of the change, albeit it’d have to be exceptionally good for me to justify a £1,000+ investment in new wheels and tyres.
