  1. I doubt it, but I'd be able to tell if I opened the bonnet, removed the engine cover and used a torch and my eyeses...
  2. You don't need to drain the gearbox dude.
  3. Pop the nut back on the shaft just enough to protect the threads, wedge a screwdriver tightly under the lever then give the shaft a sharp tap
  4. It looks like you just squeeze the two plastic ears together to push it out of the metal housing.
  5. It was changing the plugs that actually fixed it, 12V and 16V engines eat plugs...
  6. Borderline in that case since you can get strong money for it as a spares/repairs listing on the bay...
  7. You need to support the engine in order to remove the gearbox, unless you have a access to a pit or a lift you're going to find this really, really difficult. It's a simple job for a garage, try getting a few quotes.
  8. I wouldn't worry about the slight noise if the car drives well.
  9. IIRC they haven't been available for some time now.
  10. The item description clearly stated "traffic on the right" which is the shifty way of saying LHD, also very few RHD are made compared to LHD.
  11. He hasn't changed them yet.
  12. Yeah, they're terrible, sorry.

  14. You said you didn't have the money, you didn't say you'd been quoted a grand, that's a completely ridiculous price! Get a better mechanic, I suggest an independent VW specialist, and I've already given you some good advice, here's some more; don't get so emotional, I'm trying to help you.
  15. Then you don't have the money to run a car!
  16. Yes, they're not handed if that's what you mean...
  17. Obviously I agree because there's really nothing else it can be, buy a guaranteed secondhand unit if you want to save a few bob.
  18. Screeching noise is probably just the starter motor, this may be a simpler resolution than you think...
  19. It sounds like the pump unit is failing, it's a self contained system with its own control unit, what usually happens is damp ingress from condensation which damages the circuitry over time.
  20. It was only ten minutes off which is one sixth of one degree. That wouldn't be noticeable at the steering wheel. They should be locking the steering wheel straight then adjusting both sides until they're aligned, it looks like they're just adjusting one side a fraction then asking for their money. It's up to you to stamp your feet and complain!
  21. Ethanol works well for forced induction because it allows more ignition advance, zero ethanol is better for cooking N/A engines with no loss of power.
  22. The big gap is what kills the coil packs, hence running a smaller gap reduces the voltage requirements and the coil packs live longer.
