You need to support the engine in order to remove the gearbox, unless you have a access to a pit or a lift you're going to find this really, really difficult. It's a simple job for a garage, try getting a few quotes.

I wouldn't worry about the slight noise if the car drives well.

It sounds like the pump unit is failing, it's a self contained system with its own control unit, what usually happens is damp ingress from condensation which damages the circuitry over time.

It was only ten minutes off which is one sixth of one degree. That wouldn't be noticeable at the steering wheel. They should be locking the steering wheel straight then adjusting both sides until they're aligned, it looks like they're just adjusting one side a fraction then asking for their money. It's up to you to stamp your feet and complain!

Ethanol works well for forced induction because it allows more ignition advance, zero ethanol is better for cooking N/A engines with no loss of power.

The big gap is what kills the coil packs, hence running a smaller gap reduces the voltage requirements and the coil packs live longer.
