  1. What's the box in a superb 2.0tdi? My Octavia was a dq250. @MickeyMouse what year is the car, how many miles on it, how many gears and when was the gearbox last serviced?
  2. @SailorP The "blanking plate" is actually the front of the head unit. The screen in the dash is just the screen. I wouldn't concern your auto leccy with removing the unit. If you do you will pull out a box with a load of plugs in the back. As you have canton I believe that makes it harder to link up any additional source. It would also need coding to allow you to select a different source. All of which would like invalidate your warranty. By far the slickest route would be spotify or similar on the phone. Cheapest would be ripping the CDs and saving them on the phone. Another convenient option would be a low profile USB stick with it all saved and left in the car.
  3. OT: The issue with selecting quiet tyres is the dynamic of the tyre might change depending on wheel size, car weight, tyre pressure, tyre profile, tread depth, car design....... It's an expensive game hunting for quiet tyres that perform to expectations. Potentially worth it depending on you attitude and driving habits though. FWIW the GTE and iV weight near enough the same as their ICE 4x4 couterparts so normal tyres are acceptable. To get the best economy in summer you massively compromise winter safety so a second set could be wise. On topic: Sounds like you could have some sort of issue with the gearbox. Is it at all possible that it's a driving style thing @Vlady? Does your heel come off the floor as you go over said speed bumps causing you to mash the go pedal and tricking the gearbox into 1st? Just trying to cover all bases.
  4. Apart from the confusing cambelt situation all maintenance items are very similar between the two cars. Assuming purchase price is the same (iV will likely be more for the same spec/condition) it really comes down to what you want from the car and how you use it. Lots of short journeys or commute of 10 miles each way suggests the iV. Pretty much anything else you'll be better off with the 2.0. Annual tax is the same. I get closer to 50 on a run with some charge. No charge and you might get as low as 45. The amount you charge really affects the apparent mpg (still need to pay for electric). More charge and shorter journeys will give much higher mpg.
  5. Ok, 28k @3 1/2 years is lowish. Then you are adding 22k in 4 1/2 years. Seems a bit low and not what I would use a DPF equipped car for. Less than 5k/year even with the odd long journey is too low. If all your miles were long distance then it would probably be ok. Then skoda suggested you have a faulty sensor. If the specialist just looked at the sensor data without actually looking inside the filter, the false reading could show the DPF is ok. It's entirely possible that you have both a blocked filter and bad sensor. I'd take it back to the specialist and tell them what skoda have said. They might be able to clean it out for you and get a bit of life back.
  6. At what age? Was it 6 years old with 28k? or 1 year old? My point is that if the car wasn't driven with the DPF in mind for it's entire life then at some point it will become an issue earlier than expected. Two extremes: 1) You bought the car low mileage so the DPF hasn't been looked after before your ownership. 2) You bought the car but are not doing enough miles to look after the DPF.
  7. As this is a UK based site and such an activity is illegal for road use, you might struggle to find the answer you need here. Maybe try contacting Darkside Developments. They race such engines so should have the knowledge you need.
  8. Maybe your usage is on the cusp of being acceptable and has now reached a turning point. Given the low mileage, are they all yours or did you buy the car used? Maybe the previous owner wasn't as sensible as you regards the DPF.
  9. 50k is quite low mileage for an 8 year old car with a dpf. You say it normally take 2-3 weeks between each regen of town driving. Is that your normal driving routine? If so a diesel doesn't sound like the car for you unfortunately.
  10. Amusement is not what I would call it. Had a number of conversations with people who are supposed to be technically educated. They still don't get that these "self charging" hybrids are the same as a prius. Or even that when our PHEV runs out of charge it reverts to be a normal hybrid. The marketing train has certainly done what they set out to achieve.
  11. Walk away. It could be an easy fix with a dsg service* or it could be a major issue. I'd rather not hang around to find out. *Should be done for you should you choose to purchase.
  12. This explains it. Yes you could gain from charging everyday but at that sort of mileage the benefit would be minimal. Is is private hire? Could you charge at different points in the day? Yes it would mean a different use pattern but (depending where you plug in) could save a good amount of fuel. As @aerofurb suggests, driving in sport will charge the battery somewhat but if starting already charged should see no worse economy that hybrid mode but with better throttle response and power. Due to building work at home I am unable to charge every day at the moment and I have been using GTE mode all the time and getting 45-50mpg. When driving in hybrid and dead battery I was getting low 40s.
  13. The satnav uses the route to decide what power source to use at what time. I think it usually saves a bit of electric for the final part of the journey. Main issue is that if you are doing trip out to see relatives, the car doesn't know that you might want to save some power for the return journey. You need to charge the car though. You haven't confirm that you are doing that. If not then all the discussion on satnav is moot.
  14. 40-45 is normal without charging it. Are you using the inbuilt satnav? That has a smart system that will use the battery at the optimal time for the journey. I use waze so have to make sure I control the battery usage myself.
  15. The issue with that is to inspect the belt fully you need to rotate the engine a number of times to completely view the belt. By that time you may as well have just replaced the belt. The longer the belt, the longer the inspection time, the more it costs. It's my view that 5 years is possibly too soon but no time and 140k is too long. Always used to be in the 70k region. Had my 1.9 done twice in 170k miles. Not sure when I'll be doing the GTE. Probably around 80-90k which will put it at 8-9 years old.
  16. Has the battery been testing in all operating conditions? Just because it shows 12.x V sat still does not mean it's healthy.
  17. Has it been mapped and done it have a stock inlet system (inc. air filter)? Sounds like it's been tinkered with. As for the jolt, maybe it's the dogbone mount that needs a new bushing. Official name is pendulum mount I think. It links the bottom of the gearbox to the chassis to transfer the torque to the car rather than rotating the engine and gearbox on the mounts. Or it could be engine mounts. None of these things last forever.
  18. As above it's an interrupted regen. The fan is it cooling down. Some people think it's the regen continuing but that's not correct. It must complete the regen to function correctly.
  19. Since start and since refuel should be obvious when they reset. Long term will reset something like every 1000 hrs maybe. It's definitely on a reset period whether that's time based or distance. Are you saying they all reset at the same time and quite often? Are you accidentally hitting a button? Maybe the scroll wheel on the steering wheel is faulty?
  20. OK so you know the gearbox well then. Is there a bed in period for the clutch pack? From the sounds of it the box certainly wouldn't suffer from having the mech oil changed again. Is there a strainer/filter on the DQ200? The one on the DQ400e (mine) is really hard to get to so I was sure to ask them to change it when I got it serviced 25k ago. Most places will just do the fluid and reset. Have you taken it to a gearbox specialist? FYI, there's one in Medway that a mate has personal experience with that I would not recommend. Screwed his box up to the point it needed factory replacement. All work (inc, specialist) was done under warranty.
  21. How many miles has it done? Could be that it needs a good flush. Officially they are non-serviceable but they can definitely be worked on. Worst case the clutches are on the way.
  22. VAG UK were pretty much the only market in the world sticking to the 5 year thing. They've now dropped it and raised the mileage to 140k. I'll be doing mine before 100k.
  23. Engine needs to be running and gearbox fluids up to temperature. At least on the wet clutch boxes. The dq200 could be different.
  24. Not tested it but the EV forums have said that if you start the car with the bonnet open it will start the engine. I can also confirm that you can start the engine by pressing all the way to the floor on the go pedal. The engine goes nuts for a couple of seconds as it's seeing full throttle but if you let off it should stay running.
