  1. It could be that the 12v car battery is on the way out. Mine beeped at me when my battery voltage was low. You could get the battery checked to see whether that might be the fault. When was the battery last changed?
  2. Just be careful when prising the lid off the fuel filter housing after removing the bolts. It is very easy to bend the lid causing it to leak when reassembled.
  3. My late dad always said that "Third Class riding is better than First Class walking". Not that a Fabia is third Class 😁
  4. I find it surprising how many of us, including myself, are still using and are happy with our old Panasonic Plasma TV (and room heater😁).
  5. I would check the wires in the rubber umbilical between the body and the boot lid. They can fracture due to fatigue caused by the boot being opened and closed.
  6. I think that a steel rule would be too wide.
  7. It is to give something to push against and to position the business end. The wire that does the work is about 200 mm long before the bend.
  8. I do not remove the end caps to remove my DRL assembly. There is a slot in the outer side of the end caps and I use a piece of stiff wire bent at right angles fed through that slot to press on the plastic release level. It takes a few goes to be able to get the wire into the correct position but when it us you can feel the springiness of the lever. I cannot find a picture of the lever at the moment but when you have removed one side all will be revealed.
  9. I use a piece of stiff bent wire to remove my DRL/Foglight assembly buy pressing it against the spring.loaded catch. I have found that the rear bulb contact of the DRL does wear the centre contact of the bulb. It is a flat piece of copper coloured metal, it might be copper, which as you say abrades the bulb contact. It is so far down in the bulb holder that I have not found any way to bend it. I have re-soldered the centre bulb contact but that is a short term fix. Last time I soldered a small washer, I think M2, to the centre bulb contact to act as a hard point to prevent wear and I have not had a failure so far but I only did it about 3 months ago and the car has not had much use recently.
  10. Looks good. Was it a difficult job?
  11. The Creality Ender 3 appears to be a reasonable cheap printer from the reviews but I do not have any experience of them. Be aware that 3D printing is very seldom "plug and play" and that some tuning will be necessary to get the best prints which will take time and use filament. Before you buy a printer you may want to investigate the 3D modelling software available to decide which software you are going to use. The learning curve of some of these can be steep but there are a lot of YouTube videos available. I use OpenSCAD which suits the things that I print and the way my brain works, it is a script based language, but I doubt that it would be suitable for "artistic" models.
  12. What is he going to use it for? What size prints does he want to make? Resin printers do good definition but need a well ventilated room, or fume extraction, and the prints need washing in a solvent and then hardening with UV light. Filament printers normally have larger print areas but do not have such good resolution. There are a great number of different materials for filament printers but some can be very hard to print well. I have had a filament printers for many years. They do, in my experience, need a lot of fettling to keep them in tip top condition and designing objects to print can be very time consuming. They are however very useful for parts that are bespoke or unavailable.
  13. When I was a young petrol pump attendant (weekend job) it was only about 35p/gallon in the early 1970s if I remember correctly. It went up dramaticaly during the 1970s due to the Middle East petrol crisis (I still have the petrol coupons for my moped).
  14. The Amazon link that you referred to does not state that they are "Triple Square" as far as I can see. I understand that there is avdufference between normal splines and Triple Square. You may need to buy some like these https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEXIVON-Triple-Premium-10-Piece-European/dp/B07M6884DY/
  15. I find it strange that 2 gudgeon pins would give way at exactly the same time so that both con rods would go through the block even if being over revved. What engine is it?
  16. Look here. Edit: Beaten by Wino!
  17. I am surprised that no enterprising company has come up with a safe way of plugging holes drilled in plastic fuel tanks from the outside. I was thinking of something like is used to plug tyres or a drywall butterfly (spring toggle) fixing with an external sealing washer. I do understand the risks of petrol leaks but there must be some way to repair them.
  18. I had a similar problem when I upgraded our Samsung laptop to SSD. I bought a Samsung 500Gb SSD, cloned the existing 500Gb hard disk to it using an external caddy but when I replaced the HDD with the SSD the laptop would not recognise it. After many email conversations with Samsung and them replacing the SSD it still would not work. I then bought a Crucial 500Gb SSD, cloned the laptops HDD, and when fitted to the laptop it worked straight away. Why the Samsung SSD would not work in a Samsung laptop I do not know. The Samsung SSD is now fitted to my Windows 7 desktop and is working perfectly.
  19. I would check the ratings of the fridge and the phone charger that were running in the boot to make sure that you have not overloaded the circuit or got close to its rating. If not then plug those items in separately and see whether either of them causes the fuse to blow. It may because process of elimination to find what is causing the fuse to blow.
  20. When does the fuse blow. Is it random when nothing is plugged into it or when it is in use? If the latter then try a different device in it and see whether the fuse blows. Also look down into the socket with a torch and see whether a foreign object, such as a coin, has fallen into it.
  21. When we were looking for a compact camera for my wife one of our requirements was for it to have a viewfinder. She had prviously had a Canon Ixus which only had a screen and she found it very difficult to see what she was taking a photo of in bright sunlight. After much searching for a camera with a viewfider, as they are getting very rare, we bought a Panasonic TZ70 which has a viewfinder, 12.1 Mpixels and a 30x optical zoom. It is also "Wi-Fi Certified" but we have never used that function. It does allow you to control the camera from an app on your phone which I have tried once and then never used again. It takes good quality photos and we are happy with it. Looking online the price new appears to be about Β£200 but I think that we bought ours a a Grade A refurbished model for less.
  22. Can you not just hacksaw the nut off or use a nut splitter if you have one?
  23. When measuring low resistance values you will need to either "null" the probes, if your meter has such a facility, to remove any error due to the resistance of the leads on the meter or connect the probes together and subtract that value from any readings. Also be sure that the probes are well connected to bright metal otherwise you may get an inaccurate reading.
  24. Do the reversing lights come on when you select reverse gear? It may be that the switch that detects reverse gear has failed or the wire has come off.
