  1. Hi!

Gaz replied to TomMk3Oct's topic in Hellos and Goodbyes
Hello Tom My second Skoda was a 2015 Octavia Estate. Great practicality πŸ‘ Gaz
  2. Do you know the history of the car? Is it ex Police/Ambulance/Miltary/Motability? Does it have any additional lights, equipment or a non standard fuelling system?
  3. Don't waste your time. Leave it stock and look after it. If it doesn't do what you want, sell it and buy a TSI. Gaz
  4. Perfectly normal and very common. If you search, you'll find plenty of threads about it on here. Gaz
  5. The trouble with silicone grease is that it does attract dirt and crud. Having had two Del Sol's, where silicone grease is your friend when it comes to keeping the roof seals in good order, it's lovely when you first put it on, but the next time you touch it it'll be all gritty and 'orrible. It's a labour of love. A thin line of mould resistant clear sealant would be my weapon of choice. Gaz
  6. Stretched i30 Limo 😁
  7. Skoda Kamiq (Well somebody nicked my i30 guess) Hyundai i30 😁
  8. You can, but you need to join, as in Freedom or FreedomLite: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/subscriptions/ Gaz Epilogue: Pah, beaten to it again πŸ™„
  9. Run a thin bead of silicon sealant between the coloured lens and white plastic maybe? Don't blame you at all for bottling it Time and place and all that jazz. Helped my Son change his rear trailing arm and blown shock (MOT failures) on the Sunday before I went to Bruges the next day. I pointed out to him before we started that if anything went wrong he was stuffed. A couple of simple errors were good for the adrenaline πŸ™„
  10. Don't know, but I'd have thought the blue ones hold the coloured lens unit on. Those three oblongs on the same edge as the location pins look like they might be recesses on the other side, for the coloured lens to slot into.
  11. I've a vague recollection of this coming up before and it was the seal around the cluster, where once off the car, there was an obvious water run mark where it had gotten through and into the cluster. Drop it off, dry it out, new seal/sealant IMO πŸ‘ Gaz
  12. Is it only the nearside cluster that's affected? Any signs of condensation or damp in the boot/wheel well? Rear washer working okay? Gaz
  13. Looks like your nearest and dearest are going to be @Gizmo in New Romney, or @paulski over in Brighton. There's a map here: Gaz
  14. If I hadn't bought a V70 back in May, your car was exactly what I was looking for and I'd have bitten your hand off! C'est la vie. Gaz
  15. Aurora Borealis visible again. This is from Eastbourne, 9:30pm: Gaz
  16. I've only ever had to do one, on my B5 Passat. Psyched myself up for it over a couple of days, and read lots, which just added to my angst. Showed it a hammer, and it all but fell out Gaz
  17. Hello HTC No, 4x4 is not a gimmick. Will it turn into a money pit? who knows πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ but you can lessen the risk by looking after it properly (as Paws is referring to). I take it you're looking at the 272 TSI with a DSG gearbox. Have you seen this one advertised?: It looks pretty nice to me. I've driven several DSG Superbs this year, all 4x4s, and you can certainly notice the additional traction. It's a want for me though, not a need, so I didn't go for it in the end. Gaz
  18. Agree, but I'm not sure by who. I think @EnterName 's first comment about caution still stands. Not from the fluid as it's a DQ250, so G052 182 is correct, but for the filter and ring as any failure either in the product or installation could be neatly side stepped with a don't look at us, you supplied it. I think there's a difference between '..they allow customers..' and '..they asked me to bring the right products..' - do they doubt their ability to get it 'right'? If they can source the parts, why are they asking the customer to, other than to put on the invoice 'fitted customer supplied parts' or words to the effect of? I'm such a suspicious old git! πŸ™„ Gaz
  19. 25k on the vRS and 36k on the GTI, so both well shy of the OP's 87k. I'd had both cars since new as well, so had the benefit of knowing their history (the vRS was traded in for the GTI). Of course we can find documented cases, I was simply commenting from my experience, and I don't think the EA888 G3 is particularly notorious for oil consumption. My vRS's turbo grenaded itself at 21k miles and there was an initial question as to whether it had taken the engine with it. It hadn't, and the Skoda tech commented at the time that they're a good, robust engine. I've had cars that would put the Amoco Cadiz to shame in terms of oil usage, but the EA888's are not one of them. Gaz
  20. Sorry to say I'm a bit like @Mickvrs220 in that neither my 2015 vRS 220 (stage 1 to c.310bhp), nor my current 2018 Golf GTI 230, use a drop of oil, so from my experience, no, it's not normal. Gaz
  21. No leaks but no pressure seems to suggest to me that any pressure leak is likely to be happening above the coolant water line, otherwise you'd surely see liquid. Hence suspecting the header tank's lid seal. Being able to control the flaps would indicate it's not a generic code reader being used. Gaz
  22. Do you know what they were scanning diagnostic codes with? Some generic code readers don't capture all relevant fault codes. If it wasn't a VAG related diagnostic tool, maybe get someone with VCDS to have a look for you: Gaz
  23. Did the expansion tank come with a new lid as well? Asking the obvious just to cover the bases. Gaz
  24. Hello and welcome Have you had the car scanned for fault codes? Have you tried resetting the HVAC vent flaps?: With regard to no pressure in the cooling system, has the seal on the expansion tank lid failed? Gaz
  25. Definitely related to Mrs Gaz πŸ™„
