Talex/Novus Database Discussion

Featured Replies

I have been following this post for a while now and I also have been having problems. However I decided recently to sell my Talex Unit on eBay. However just after doing this I have discovered this website www.staycon.co.uk on another forum.

I believe it allows you to trade in any old unit you have for a new Speed Camera detector at a discounted price. I have yet to try it, but am going to this week by trading in an unused Tom Tom.

Hope this might help some of you out there.

Save yourself some money! They do them on ebay for the trade in price without trading in, so flog the Tom Tom separately and make some extra money!

Latest Talex Update :

V. 9082.

File Size 3352104.

Seems to have gone very quiet on here over the past month, is anyone using the Novus Delta database and if so have you had any problems?

Would be interested to know how Novus compares to Talex database.

Lee, Why not try it for yourself. If you don't like the Novus database you can always reload Talex's. I too would be interested in the comparison.

Me too - with the reported Talex customer support problems I wonder if we can rely on their version ? Is it just being 'date updated' to make us think it's recent?

Novus publish the stats with each update

from what i can gather at talex there isnt many more cameras going up at the moment so the database has been about the same in size. (as roadworks season started a couple of months ago and the cameras in place then) give it a couple more months and the size will start dropping again.

Clearly spam, lol.

This might be a better option Inforad K1 - Safety Camera Detector from Halfords Price £39.99 is based on the pocketgpsworld database and has free updates for litfe.

Looks interesting that and the box is pretty much free, seeing as the annual charge to have the PGPSW database on your satnav is £20/yr!

From what I can tell looking at vids on youtube it doesn't give spoken warnings like the talex, it just beeps, and I assume it beeps aggressively if you approach a camera at over the limit.

and still £127 on the Talex site... what a laugh!

I assume they think if someone searches google for talex and looks at their link they'll stump up. Guess it smacks of desperation though given the disparity in prices.

halfords are doing the talex device at a much more reasonable price.

9083 is out for both Talex and Novus.

How long have Novus been doing a fixed camera only database for the Rider?

Hi

Can anyone be of any help here. I bought a Talex lite a couple of years ago and it never had the data cable supplied. I have recently bought the right cable at an extortionate price and am looking to try and get updated.

Before i do i notice that the Novus Delta is the same unit with free updates! I therefore followed all the instructions to update yet it didn't work. I noticed that there was a message saying that it may not support windows vista which is what i have. Will this update work for the talex lite on the novus download if i find a friend with windows xp? Looking on the Talex website they are trying to get £3.95 a month for the privilige of updates, however does their software support windows vista as there seems to be suggestion that again it doesn't.

I would rather keep using the unit as it is useful having a speedometer and a clock (car clock is broken) so any help would be appreciated.

I've been running a Talex Lite, using the Delta updates and on Vista, for a while. It has worked fine. When you say it doesn't work, what happens? If you get some strange error messages, the trick is to unplug the unit, plug it in again (making sure its in Download mode) and then run the software again. Sometimes it does take a couple of tries - I've never quite worked out the logical way to do it.

Where did you get the lead from? I actually got mine from Novus, but I don't think it should make any difference.
