  • Picked up the new VRS: 2013 Fabia VRS by Graeme_Smith, on Flickr

  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

  • modified the cup holder     It's now a hobnob holder

Fitted the bike rack for the first time on the vRS. Didn't think it was possible but gave it a crack anyway!

Just check there's not too much weight hanging off the top straps. Have seen spoilers broken by that type of bike rack before.

Exactly why I have a roof rack bike mount...

When I fitted it I did ensure that the straps didn't come into contact with the back of the spoiler at all, so hopefully that would not be an issue. My only worry was the majority of the weight must have been against the glass. It managed a 45 mile round trip down country lanes without a hitch this time but I will eventually be investing in a pair of roof bars and a cycle holder :)

Ordered a load of service parts.

Didn't happen yesterday, rather over the past few days.

Saturday - Drove to Wigan to pick up some 312mm calipers off an Audi TT, then stopped via the Trafford Centre with the family. then back to County Durham, mostly motorways so managed 60mpg, which I was a little bit disappointed about actually! Needs a service though.

Sunday - Cleaned my 312mm calipers with hot water and Fairy liquid and gave them a coat of red Hammerite.

Monday - Ordered 312mm discs and pads, and standard rear discs and pads from carparts4less, £125 for the lot!

Colour coded some metalwork I had lying around the garage.

Yesterday.....

took it to Sinclair Skoda in Swansea for it's first MOT, which it passed!!

Well, we just had to kiss and make up with some hard-packed snow/ice on the side of the road after a close encounter with black ice. Minimal damage. The front bumper got a bit of a jolt, need to be reseated. Lower grille portions need to be reseated also and the inner wheel arch got ripped out and in half. Fender survived without damage. I was pretty damn close to flipping the car on its side though.

Car seems to run fine. No evident mechanical damage. Doesn't pull to the side or shake. The wheel only got a mild jolt I assume.

Drove my friend to pick up her new Golf 7 1.4 DSG. Certainly a lovely bit of kit. Quite a few refinements my 2012 Octavia 1.9 TDI lacks but also lacking a few it has. Especially in the size department. Cost her about 3K more as well so no regrets.

Nothing as its currently at the dealers undergoing various tests and road testing so won't get it back till Monday (maybe)

Drove home from work and end result was a cracked windscreen

attached aforementioned metalwork with some bolts and a hammer

Thanks also to Horsee for his assistance :)

Fitted my pretty new engine cover after some spraying, will get some pics tomorrow in daylight.

Got the new front wheel bearing fitted then the car passed it's MOT with only one advisory. It was something I had my eye on changing anyway so all's well with the Fabia. It's nice to have the nice smooth ride back with no noise or vibration through the steering wheel again.

Finally fitted the W8 after modding the connector so it'll fit in around the sunglass holder. Moved the old front light into the back, so map lights back there too :)
