  • Picked up the new VRS: 2013 Fabia VRS by Graeme_Smith, on Flickr

  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

Drove to Goodwood and back for breakfast :D 200mile roundtrip.

Nothing as I havn't got one for 4-6 weeks :(

Going for a wee drive later on in the Fabia....

Cleared my fault codes, only for them to come back again :'(

Put some sealant on my alloys and gave the inside a clean

Tried to mend my engine cover, skoda broke it pulling it off( coil pack recall)( it has always been tight on one of the bungs) in vain. Only cosmetic, but might see it a cover for the Tsi will fit( dont have to keep taking it off to do air filter)

Flasher relay stopped flashing, so replaced innards with NE555 based circuit. Works a treat.

had a run to cleethorps

Washed it, filled the washer fluid then removed the TDI badge off the boot  cleared off all the fault codes from when I had the rear lights disconnected whilst swapping the rear bumper and testing the parking sensors

Took it to a rolling road and the car made 150 bhp and 235 lb/ft with a Shark Performance remap

Took the old shocks and the new ones to my mechanic and got the top mounts swapped over. Rattle guns are ace I want one.

He still won't charge me! Going to get a wheel alignment done next week though once everything is back together and tested a bit, so he'll charge me for that. :D

So hopefully will have the suspension re-assembled after work tonight.

Got the struts back in at lunchtime - then realised the centre allen key is 6mm on the VMAXX compared to 7mm on the stock ones.

Nipped to Repco (local Halfrauds equivalent) after work and got a 6mm allen bit, tightened up the tops, put the car back on its wheels, quick test lock to lock before a test drive, ABS light.

Stupid me hadn't clipped the ABS cable in properly and pulled the wires out of it when it caught in the wheel.

Much cursing followed, then a pikey fix with some push fit crimped ends and insulating tape. It'll do for now.

Fault code cleared and all good. Felt fine on a quick test drive.

Maybe I can finally get that cert now!

One day I'll do a job well and not damage anything. Maybe.

Took wife to Chartwell (Churchill's house). Had coffee and cakes in the teashop and then a walk around gardens, very pleasant. On return journey car developed a new rattle this time from the instrument cluster. Do I have a "Friday afternoon job" Skoda?

TSI cover is different. Sorry :(

Went to the garden centre in it today for some plants, then washed the fabia and SWMBO is away out doing a advanced driving lesson with the IAM in it.

Tomorrow... Needs to go in for some work at Skoda. :'(

Found two new carpark dings on the driver's door. What a successful supermarket trip that was today.... emoticon-0114-dull.gifemoticon-0120-doh.gif

Sorry to hear about your dings ,I had 2 when a new car I had was 2 hours old. Now I park in the furthest space away from the entrance( most people in a hurry, door bashers park nearest) my wife says we are so far away we might as well get the bus!:giggle:

It really is terrific. Other people are SO considerate!

What a bummer, I found that if I don't wash my car I never look at it closely enough to see the car park dings, or I use SWMBO's car :giggle:

Washed my Superb, it needed one as it was covered in dust and pollen having been left at home unused for 1 week whilst I was on holiday in France.

I fitted the Allard one. Mainly due to a slight weep from the EGR pipe coming off the turbo.

Apart from the CEL light on and a slight judder at shutdown (expected issue with the bypass, as the anti-shudder is controlled via EGR - same on the Fabia) - it feels the same. But better in the long run by not gunking up the inlet with oil vapours emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Also now completes the engine work, so I can get a revised map from Ben emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Cheers,

Steve

Did you get the catch can too or just the egr pipe? My EGR was leaking oil last year and raised a fault code, I cleaned it and reset the code and it hasn't re-appeared but I'm not convinced its helping the running of the car as my remap didn't make as much difference as I expected.

Me & Mike B fitted Front and Rear flaps to our Fabias over the weekend, thats all i've done to mine lately :)

Just the EGR Matthew. Not particularly interested in the catch can. Once I get a revised map from Ben to take into account the EGR bypass, decat and exhaust, I'll do some logging so to compare with what you've done. OK the exhaust on mine is different, but I'm not expecting that to make a particularly big difference.

Your figures were up in the 190s were they not? Seems a decent PD140 result to me that :)

EGR bypass I would do on the basis that the engine will run better, but not particularly for out-and-out performance benefits.

Cheers,

Steve.

Steve,

Thanks for the info

My peak bhp is 197 but when following the Flywheel HP to Wheel HP conversion it comes down to approx 167bhp and shows the standard WHP @ 144bhp.

I know that VCDS's isn't a true/accurate measurement and the figures are a little meaningless, I only carried out the tests to see the difference in the decat and the remap and to be perfectly honest if I hadn't of done it, I would have been very unsure if the map had actually downloaded :'( .
