What was your first car?

I had a mk1 fiesta that was regestered as a 1.3 supersport in yellow for my first car I paid £250 for it from a bloke up the road from where I lived but after taking it in for some work to be done, the mechanic said it it had the 1.6 engine out of the mk1 XR2 with an twin choke webber carb & high lift cam. No wonder it was quick. It had yellow peril stickers down each side & it was covered in rust:D My dad sold it for £100 when I was doing my army training:(

Mine was a Mk1 Escort 1100, drum brakes all round ..... very nice. The car was ancient at the time and had 12 months MOT on but failed and got scrapped on the next one.

I then moved onto a Mk2 Escort 1300, then managed to save, beg, steal, borrow enough for a 3 year old Mk2 Escort Mexico which I wish was still parked on the driveway today

I was always a Ford Fan in my early days, I had a Mk2 3.0S Capri which was my pride and joy, but had to sell it to help pay for putting a ring on the mrs's finger ....... I was reduced to a lowly 1.1 popular plus Fiesta. From there, I discovered the "Dark Side" which was VAG .... or Volkswagen to be more precise.

Either I'm not subscribed to or unsubscribed from this thread?

Either way, the first with my name on the V5 was a Citroen ZX Elation 1.4, which all the electrics worked on up til I rolled it at 5 years old (it, not me). I still miss it sometimes, although Samantha is a better car at everything except rear seat legroom.

'B' 1.0l Vauxhall Nova Saloon in Red with a Brown and Beige checked interior, oh and about £500 of stereo equipment, retrofit central locking and electric windows. Then sold it 1yr later for £200 :)

Over 100k when I bought it for £100 and never broke down and never failed, until I drove too fast on a gravel track and slide into a tree

A 1956 Hillman Minx, complete with bench front seat and column change.

I paid £5 for it off a mate, with 6 months tax and MOT.

The engine was shot, it was supposed to do about 75 mph, but I never got it over 50, it went everwhere followed by a plume of blue smoke and it used a pint of oil about every week.

I got £50 PX for it against a Mark 1 Cortina about 6 months later, which at least recouped some of the cost of the oil.

1966 Ford Corsair V4 1600, previously owned by Fred Flintstone as you could put your feet through the floor. Bought October '76 for £110 (£100 too much as it only lasted 6 months before I scrapped it)

HAHA! What memories :D

My first car was a total wreck but I loved it!

It was an 11yr old Red 1963 Mk1 Cortina 1200cc, Reg 285 GWU - do you ever forget the reg no of your 1st car? Just like the Minx above it used as much oil as petrol - the engine was completely fooked. It needed a pint of oil every 50 or so miles, needed 3rd gear for the more severe motorway gradients. If you slammed the door too hard one of the headlights dropped out.

I went from elation to total dejection in a single afternoon.

Elation - driving out from Bingley to Eldwick (VERY steep hill) behind was a turd with 'is bird in a Triumph Spitfire with the roof down driving right up my **** and gesticulating wildly. What could I do? I dropped it into 1st and floored the throttle causing an enormous plume of blue smoke to envelope him - never did see where he went :D:D:D

Dejection - pulled by PC Copper on my way home through Saltaire. Stopped me cos he thought I was on fire. Got away with what I thought was a pretty gentle warning "Next time I drive behind you I want to be able to see you"

Got the message - scrapped it.... Ah well...

Mark 1 VW Golf C - Formel E. 4 Door. Burgundy Red with black and white dog tooth check interior.

If I could find it now I would buy it back in an instant. Loved that car and have so many memories attached to it.

First car was a burgundy 3-door 1986 Ford Fiesta Popular 1.0 with all of 45 horses, 0-60 in 19 seconds  It would hit 90mph... eventually :P

C144 OHH if it's still running, Mum bought it new for about £4k and 10 years later I traded it in for a Peugeot 106 and got £800 for it! Loved that car, there was a certain way to start it in hot and cold weather, you got to know just how much choke to use, coaxing it to start first time on a winter morning was so satisfying somehow :D
