I wish I was you :p Very impressive biking career and some quality pics. Way beyond me I am not big into track days and on them I am a total menace, I hold the fancier riders up on the corners then blow them away on the straights and while it entertains me its really ignorant. I don't make a habit of it but im a nasty sod like that sometimes if someone has been too much of a big mouth in paddock.

You pay your money, you can ride how you want! If the other riders are good then it shouldn't be a problem getting past again.!

There is an awful lot of BS on track events. Nothing like that at race meetings though. Can't say I miss racing that much. Kids change an awful lot. I do ejoy riding the GSX though.

Just noticed this thread so thought I'd add my (small) biking history.

First bike was an FS1E DX

Then and RD125 DX

After two winters on two wheels, I progressed to four wheels.

Some years later, I hankered after the smell and sound of a two-stroke so bought a KH250 (still possibly the greatest sounding range of bikes ever - KH400 being the sweet spot in the range).

Birth of first child meant it never got used so it had to go.

About 20 or so years later (last year to be precise), the hankering returned and I got myself this:

IMG_5478_zpsf68d7fef.jpg

IMG_5475_zps1aff1325.jpg

It's a 1978 DT400E imported from California (not by me) 18 months ago with 4,800 miles.

The previous owner did a great job on respraying the exhaust and having the seat recovered but the rest is original apart from the LED bulbs for the indicators I fitted.

I stripped the carb (not a long job) to find that the floats were stuck and it had the wrong main jet - now sorted.

It needs the crank seals doing before I ride it again as they've hardened and don't seal properly when the bikes warmed up and it then runs carp.

I'll also spray the head, barrel and crankcases at the same time.

Then roll on the summer!!

Looks like its fresh out of the box! Did you import it yourself?

I had a call today from a biking friend asking if I fancy another trip to Ireland, for the North West 200.

Done it twice before, first one was brilliant. Nice weather, good riding and great racing. Second time rain, rain, rain. Racing stopped as it was too dangerous.

Fingers crossed it'll be good again, but you just can't tell with what the weather does nowadays.

Anybody else thinking of going?

I would love to go this year but the dates just are not working with work. :( Which year did you get rained off? Not the most common thing to happen overall. If you time it right you can look at the UGP if you fancy a change its later in year better odds for weather. Can also catch the Armoy Road Races :D. I am toying with the idea of buying a house on the NW circuit just for that reason :D

I've ridden round the UGP course and would like to go to watch, but the NW200 fits with other people.

Was hoping for a European trip this year, but this will probably be the best I can manage. South of France will have to wait another year, dam those kids of mine..

No, the last owner had Yuniparts source one for him.

They imported it, did a few minor bits to get it through its MOT and arranged for a certificate of dating from the Vintage Motor Cycle Club, which is wrong! They said it was a 1977, but it's actually a '78 as confirmed by Yamaha customer services. As a consequence it has an 'R' reg and it should be on a 'S' or 'T' reg. Not sure whether I have the strength of will to take on the DVLA to get it changed, but we'll see!

It is very original and hasn't been messed with - I even found half a dozen acorns in the air box!

It isn't particularly fast, though hopefully performance will improve once I've done a few jobs, but it's good fun and brings back fond memories of my care free youth

As I've discovered, 30 is the new 50! (mph, that is :giggle: )

Indulge your  here:

Oh Yes !!!!!! very nice.

Looking to book a caravan again, up the road from the course. Did it last time, worked well and close enough to walk about. Think we split the cost between about 5/6, so made it cheap enough.

Just need to sort a few things out on the bike and I'll be good to go. Can't wait for it now.

Good effort on the GS500 lol Is there a good story behind that?

Worried me going for the CG after that 7-10bhp ish or something crazy?

What happened with the VTR? Crashed once rebuilt twice?

Have always wanted a ZX7. Never got round to even riding one. Had to be one with the non-painted frame. Was never a fan of the black painted ones.

Well the gs blew up twice in fact I built it up first time round second time round I stuck a second hand engine from a written off courier bike in it and flogged it!!! Just didn't like being ridden by a teenager!!!!

The cg was a cheap go between £200 lol broke down every day literally every day! The piston used to whack the spark plug and close the gap if you revved it to hard!!! Honestly it was a joke

The vtr I got knocked off by a lorry on the m25 it landed on the soft luggage and skidded merrily down the road without causing a huge amount of damage this second incident was my own fault, I got a little enthusiastic on a roundabout and well you know what happened

I've got a build thread in the members vrs section for this one! They are soooooo cheap now, everyone should have one

lol I am jealous my HARD and packed with solid items right pannier went through my right leg in 2011 (pics earlier in thread) leathers saved leg being ripped off, when leathers cut off was just skin keeping it attached to rest of me. I have bigger harder givvi boxes now, perhaps that was a bad idea lol
